Great advice! I started on a smaller board and it was HARD 🤙

I am 240lbs. 7m wing, 7' SUP board with 2050 foil works for me. 2400 foil works better but is a little slower. The hot rods at the beach laugh at the size of my gear, but I'm out there in 6 or 8kts when they are sitting on the beach with their tiny wings, boards and HA foils waiting for wind. Nice thing about a setup like this is when there is no wind, I can go wingless and either paddle or tow into ocean swells and boat wakes. That's hard to do on tiny gear.

Wow, you can get up in 6-8 knots?? That's unreal. I would love to see a video of you towing into a small boat swell with nothing more than a paddle!

@@Movesmedia There are videos all over KZbin of people on big wings, big boards and big foils killing it in very light wind. My Slingshot 99 foil will fly at about 4mph so it doesn't take much to get it flying. For videos on SUP foiling, search KZbin. It's just like prone foil surfing, you just start standing up and use a paddle rather than paddling in on your belly like on a surfboard. When I tow into boat wakes, they aren't small. Typically larger boats. We have a car ferry that throws a huge wake. The large sport fishing boats can throw a 3 or 4 foot wake. Plenty to wake foil on.

Beginners. If your 90kg or 105kg get a 140ltr short nose board around 5.5ft and a 6m wing from 13 to 20knots. Take a 5m wing if your out in high teens+ winds regularly. Foil 2000 is perfect 👌with long mast.

So under 10 knots what kind of wing would it be better? or just go prone surfing?

Hi Blaise. Thank you for your videos. Any suggestions on whether inflatable wing boards are a good idea for beginners? I'm thinking better with the softer surface and injuries. Also, you could get more volume in an inflatable with slightly smaller boards.
@Movesmedia
@Movesmedia 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Raghu, definitely something you can consider. I personally prefer a solid board. Inflatables give you more surface tension (sticky feeling making it a bit harder to get the board on foil). It also requires more setup time to inflate. There are some benefits though. Main one is that it's easier for storage. I wouldn't be too worried about the softer surface. It's more the foil that's a hazard under the board vs the board itself. Think they are a bit cheaper too. Hope that helps!

I purchased an 6M wing and wonder at my weight - 73KG and a beginner should I return it for a 5M ? Also, waiting for a 130 liter board and a 2400 front wing foil set up. We don’t get strong winds all the time (over 15MPH) more 10 to 16MPH days. My concern is as a beginner from your comments it’s seems the 5M with a big front wing will work best for me as a beginner.
@Movesmedia
@Movesmedia 2 жыл бұрын
For me I'd prefer the 5M. But the 6M WILL be easier for you to get going in light wind. The trade off is you will have less range when the wind is stronger. I also think it's a bit more difficult to pump as it's a bigger unit to maneuver. I dont think you'll be disappointed with the 6M. They both have benefits and it just comes down to your preferences. You can always sell it or trade it later on for a 5M if you're not happy.

Thanks for the video. I too am in Vancouver and trying to wing off of Keats Island. I have a F-One Rocket Air (140l) with a 200 sq CM front wing. I have both a 5m and 7m wing. I’ve been trying for about a year and no luck….so far. I can ‘taxi’ up wind but just can’t get up other than those explosive 30kt winds and the explode. Will try your suggestion of having the back foot more forward to get up on foil. Are you riding Jericho or Ambleside? Hard to find gear in Vancouver so grabbing off the web from Ontario or Hood River.

Nice! I've been going off jericho. Also go off the west side of Bowen Island. Had a few low wind sessions there which have been great. I should fly down the channel to Keats and find you. Is your front foil 200 or 2000? Hopefully the later. 140 is big so does take some pumping. Check out my other video on "how to get up on foil" should have some additional tips that should help you.

Hi Blaise, thanks for the videos, my partner and I are keen kitesurfers from the south coast of the UK, we moved to Squamish last March and are now going to transitioning to wing foiling. Can you tell me more about your Roberts board? I would love to buy locally and hand crafted but would like to know specifics to ask for the right board, cost? Availability? Vs buying a more mainstream brand.. we are both 70kg ish so similar to you and are good kitesurfers. Thanks so much.

Hey Steve, I can't say enough good things about Roberts. Their boards are shaped to give you more buoyancy with shorter sizes so you don't lose on manuveuverabilty. Regardless of brand you do need to decide on volume. It's a personal decision on whether you want a smaller board which makes it much harder to start but is better for when you get better. I always suggest going bigger for your first wing board. I've seen so many people struggle to even stand at the beginning which really sucks. I always suggest 120L for our weight to anyone starting out. You could probably get away with 110L but it will make it harder to get started. They often have a wait to get a board made. You'd have to call them and check. Talk to Rob and tell him you got recommended from me and he might push you to the front of the line. :) hope that helps! Rob will also give you some good insight when you talk to him on size.

Cost will be a bit more from Roberts but you're getting superior quality and a much lighter setup which helps getting onto foil. You'd have to check with him on pricing depending in what you decide.

Hey Blaise, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. We will give Rob a call and see about a 115 or 120L boards (we will need 2, so hopefully we can get a good deal). I’ll let you know how we get on. Thanks again. Steve.

Thanks for the tips, just starting out I'm 75kg, running 134lit board, 5.0m wing,front foil 1150, rear wing 400, mast 750. What do you think good starting point?. I been windsurfing for 15 years, so this foiling is all new, looking forward to getting some TOW .
@Movesmedia
@Movesmedia 2 жыл бұрын
Ya thats a pretty good setup! The front foil may be a bit small for starting out. But if your riding in wind above 15knots you should be fine. Good luck and don't be discouraged if the first few sessions are a struggle!

Thank you for the info. I just stated wing foiling. I am 75 kg and do not seem to have much issue standing up with 115 liter when I am taking a lesson (I am an advance level windsurfer). However, I am still torn between 140 liter board and 120 liter board for even easier standing up. 😳🤔🤨 I recently purchased 5.2 m kite.. and I am surely getting 2400 cm2 front wing. Any suggestion got the fuselage length and tail wing size for 2400 cm2 front wing? Should get another tail wing when I replace the front wing from 2400 cm2 to 1750 cm2??
@Movesmedia
@Movesmedia 3 жыл бұрын
No problem, glad I could help! I would go 120L board. I'm 75kg and went 120L and was really happy with it. Your foil setup should come complete with front wing, fuselage and back wing. The back wing balances out the front wing so you will always change your back wing when you change your front wing. Hope this helps and sending you lots of positive vibes to get flying!
