I think it's more the fact that literally everyone in can relate to it. Even if you've never been to school, there's been a time in every human's life that you've been learning, and had to deal with other peers of your own age group. That feeling of adolescence and the coming of age time in your life. And animated right, some shows convey that emotion and tone perfectly, even if it's the awkward, joking side of that time. I can see myself in any of the characters of these shows. Especially the stupid ones as I'm not that intelligent. And hell if it's easier to animate.. more power to the studios. I love this medium and all the weirdness/epicness that come with it ^.^
@dereenaldoambun91586 жыл бұрын
And some short note: Character's armoured outfit are hard to animated because it takes time,effort & money. That's why Berserk(2016) & some mecha animes use CGI which is kind of suck.

I like how in OnePunchMan sometimes the charecter design is changed in some shots (although each episode is made by a different animator anyway) to mimic that of the original independent manga's design for comedic effect. Which is completely different than when animators use chibi or whatever it's called to utilize over expression. What do you think @RCAnime

Actually, seeing a Canipa Effect style creator spotlight on famous and iconic illustrators and character designers rather than animators is something I would absolutely LOVE to see. People like Masayoshi Tanaka (Kimi no Na Wa, Highschool of the Dead, AnoHana), huke (Black Rock Shooter's original illustrator), Yoshinari (Gurren Lagann, Little Witch Academia) would be an absolute delight to see their work and how they got to where they are now.

@RhoninFire8 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about it. Unlike some accents, even if you do have a heavy accent, fortunately the French accent tends to sounds pleasing to American ears. Don't take this that this should mean you should use it as a crutch and not try speak like a native if that is your goal, but you don't have to worry of anyone having any negative thoughts - any thus fear that comes from that thought.
@Relionart8 жыл бұрын
As an animation student I can say you did a good job on bringing down some aspects of character design, but I was actually expecting you to talk a bit more about CHARACTER (psychology) design (and I'm not saying this was a bad video. RCAnime always does a good job on that). Because I believe it's more important that the shape of the characters reflect what the character internally is than how it's going to be animated. Of course that aspect has to be taken into account, but the animation has to serve the design, not the other way around. That way, tha animators will try to match the character (again, personality included) and this will be even more believable. After all, characters reflect and tell the story, and animation gives mood to those CHARACTERISTICS.
@buckwade38748 жыл бұрын
But won't being so focused on making a character's design perfectly match their general personality come off as stereotyping, resulting in many tasteless cliched designs where a blue haired character = calm and chill?
@Relionart8 жыл бұрын
Buck Wade Not quite. I mean... I see what you're trying to say, but it's not like that. I'll talk about the most basic element on character design: silhouette (positive and negative space). I'm going to refer to some non-anime characters first for a clearer example and then to anime characters. I suggest you to watch "The triplets of Belleville" or at least search for images. The characters are awesomely designed combining basic shapes with animal characteristisc, yet looking human and giving you a glimpse of what the character is. Sure, if you make something basic out of it you will get a child-ish design, but they can get really complex. As an anime example, go to Full Metal Alchemist. The Fuhrer has a basic shape of a square, thus giving him strenght and stable on his way of thinking. Even the main character, Ed, has a triangle based silhouette, which speaks of aggressiveness (that's the main reason he uses a cape). Also Al, he is basically squares and circles. squares mean firm attitude or a strong commitment in attitude. And the circles mean he's more of a soft, nice or clumsy or fool character. Even with characters such as Gluttony. Despite he has this round shape, he has some micro attributes which give away his evilness, such as triangle shaped teeth. I think FMA is a great example of character design because they know how to make you suspicious of someone or to know that deep down someone is a good guy just by watching them. It's also complex because of this micro attributes which give away some certain parts of their attitude. That's what I'm talking about. Of course, you have to balance things out because characters are not just "this extroverted typical guy", they are more complex and if you stereotype your character, then your design might come out also stereotyped, thus giving the child-ish result you mentioned.

My favourite character designer is one not many people know: Akio Sugino. He worked with Osamu Dezaki for many works, such as Rose of Versailles, Takarajima, Black Jack and Golgo 13. His style often features proportionate looks, so his characters still have a lot of anime style aspects, but in a way that fits the melodramatic and expressionist nature of Dezaki's work. Without Dezaki, Akiyuki Shinbo wouldn't be working in anime.

My only issue with Flip Flapper's character designs were the complete and utter lack of distinct character and face acting. Everyone seemed to have a default expression, but then had hardly any other unique emotional expressions apart from similar smiling and raised/lowered eyebrows. Counter-example, Konosuba. You will always expect Megumin to have a Megumin smile. You'll never see Kazuma or Darkness have a Megumin smile. Likewise, you won't see Eris' outburst look like Aqua's inane tantrum.

*Remember* The animation can look good but if the story sucks, it's nothing more than a *Pretty turd* The Character design needs to be at a point where: 1. It is simple enough for the animator to work with. 2. Simple enough so that the character can still do their task to complete the story 3. Have as strong silhouette that is easily recognizable 4. Is simple and interesting enough so that the audience can focus on where to look at in a character. There are more that I can list but these things are what is mostly important for a character design. The other lists involve it's background and what it relates to the story you are trying to create.

Why would you trust Digi's word on anything? The guy's a crappy reviewer who doesn't even try to view things subjectively and has gone back on previous scores in the past to tighten them down just because he made a stupid call that pissed people off.

digi's analysis In my experience range from accurate and in depth (see asterisk war sucks and his "Pschyo Pass vs Psycho Pass 2" Video) to superficial and baseless (see Erase debate and Re:Zero review, both of which he admitted he either neglected attention or simply didnt care). I would say in fairness, Digibro has spoken out against objective criticism in general, believing subjectivism should be embraced. I don't really care for his reviews, but his breakdowns and analysis are GOLD because of the level of depth he goes into to explain an idea. I LOVE his asterisk war videos because it isn't just 13 videos saying a show sucks, it goes in depth as to why it sucks, what the production team did wrong, what they could've and should've done, the theory behind character development and narrative, plot holes and good directing vs flashy albeit awkward directing, and how/why shows have gotten away with subpar efforts like these. That's interesting! I always take his opinions of what's bad with a grain of salt, but i find his info invaluable when it comes to explaining WHY something is bad.
