I went to CSULB out of high school. I was immature, living in the dorms and prioritized all the wrong things. I ended up dropping out after the first year. I then went to PCC and completed the IGETC and TAPS programs. I eventually transferred to and graduated from UCLA. My only wish is that I had gone to PCC out of high school. Good for you girls!

Hi, i'm late to the party so dont know if anyone will read this: @Some Scopio - You should be very proud that you ended up graduating from a good school. I would even go to say that if you didn't go to CSULB out of high school, who knows if you would've gone onto this path to graduate from UCLA. You never know how the future changes if the past changes. And I'm sure that you learned life lessons from your experiences that helped succeed. In my situation, I was only accepted by Cal Poly Pomona for electrical engineering out of high school (my gpa was

@@classyjohn1923 I’m going to be honest with you-from the looks of your studies, and the sound of your current situation, you may not be cut out for electrical engineering. And all this time you could’ve been forcing yourself into some ideal, and not remaining open to other possibilities-even outside of engineering. While engineering jobs may be partial to education, promotions and the ability to parlay yourself into better positions comes largely from your experience-as a team player, quick learner, and dedication to the job. Where you went to school matters VERY LITTLE at that point. So, I go back to my original comment-maybe you need to do some soul searching and really take stock of your situation? If this IS for you, then let nothing stop you, and find a way to make every situation, even the bad or less glamorous ones, work in YOUR favor. Good luck my friend-you got this.

@@somescorpio1798 I appreciate the thoughtful and honest response. But, I'm not sure that my failures were tied to an inability to learn the material or a mismatch of field of study. Heres my reasoning: 1. During my time at CC, I was mainly failing calculus-based physics and calculus and a few other classes. The reason was directly tied to my mental health. I eventually passed all these classes. For physics, I took the easier professors. I was not ready to put in the work at the time to do homework and study hard at home. Not doing well in a few physics classes doesn't mean that I can't do well in electrical engineering. 2. I had carried with me, a sense of regret, to CPP when I was studying math and I actually put in time and effort to do homework and study (I was still facing periods of depression which affected my grades). At the end, considering how decent my grades were overall, I would say that I could've done similar in an engineering program and passed. 3. When I graduated back in 2020, I spent my free time basically studying programming and some electronics in my free time. It was actually not too bad. I'm already decent at math so being in a low stress environment to learn really motivated me and I was able to learn and do the problems at the end of the chapters in the textbooks. 4. Having worked in a professional engineering environment, I would say that practical, real world engineering is much, much different than learning engineering in school. My work is mostly software engineering with some amount of electrical engineering in there. You have mentors and resources to look up when you're stuck. Theres a lot to learn. I would not say that success in school equates to success in the workplace. My issues described are more related to biases in the workplace. 5. I would not treat failure as the determining factor for giving up on a field/major. Failure is a natural part of the journey and part of growth. So many people treat failure like its the end. Its not and if you do treat it that way, then you'll just get stuck in life at some point. I wouldn't have made the progress I did if I gave up after failure. Aside from what I said above, I have been sort of reflecting and theres still more soul searching to do. I don't know yet if this field of embedded software is it for me yet but I definitely do not mind being here in the meantime.

I'm so glad it helped and I'm happy to hear that you're going further with your education. A degree does not have an age requirement. We need to start normalizing this! Congrats and wishing you the best of luck! :)

Just wanted to comment and say how much this video has helped me understand. No one really has told me how to do things for college and it’s been difficult because I’m 16 graduating in May and have decided to go straight into schooling but it’s a community college 2 hours away from my home so it’s been a little stressful lol but this video helped to make me calm down a little. I’m going to college for Culinary and sadly the only community college that offered it is 2 hours away. So I stressed about how I was going to find housing and another job and pay for schooling since I am so young to be going to college :)

Omg, thank you for taking the time to make this video. This is great content. There are a lot of seniors out there that need to hear this. I'm just about ready to transfer out of CC and I'm really considering making a video similar to this.

When I was starting CC, I realized that no on KZbin really talks about how it is. I really wanted to help out those who are confused or uncertain. I highly encourage you to make one! It will make confused seniors more comfortable when they see there are others that chose the CC path!

My biggest regret is not going to cc straight out of hs. I feel like It could have been a much more mature option for myslef. I’m currently in my second year at uni and I’m so miserable because I still have no idea what to do and I wasted so much money and time. I don’t have any passion for learning anymore so I might take a break from school who knows :/ but this video was very insightful.

when going to PCC as a freshman received no help whatsoever had to choose random classes, I would end up moving to ELAC which was a better CC. When transferred to Cal State LA it was mandatory to speak to a Counselor based on our Major in Orientation where the counselors would help us choose the classes we needed

About 20 students were at my group counseling session! There's really no need to be nervous, everyone there is just like you. It's more of an informative session if anything, so don't be afraid to ask questions if you're confused about anything. :)
