Cannibal Corpse is one of my all time favorites. I love that they are credited as Cannibal Corpses in Ace Ventura.

Been on A Thrash kick lately..Darkness Descends, Forbidden Evil, Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint,, Horrorscope, etc. Have you guys listened to that straight up thrash record by VIKING lately, MAN OF STRAW? The production, guitar tone/playing(riffs, solos)*** drums and growl vocals are on point, definitely hitting the high mark! Guitar player went on to play/tour with Dark Angel..Great stuff, Quality listen all the way thru. Top notch thrash album. VIKING..Man of Straw!!! 💙💙💙💯

Also my first impression of Death Metal was Kataklysm’s “Heavens Venom” with a bit of Cannibal Corpse here and there

Cannibal Corpse "Tomb Of The Mutilated", Obituary "World Demise", Morbid Angel "Covenant", Six Feet Under "Haunted", and Suffocation "Pierced From Within" were my first death metal albums and still some of my all time favorites.

Those compilation albums definitely helped with discovering new bands. I had one compilation album with an Amorphis song on it that wasnt even an original song of theirs. It was a cover of Light My Fire from the Doors. Complete with organ solo and death growls.

The 10 albums that got me into death metal were: (In no particular order) 1. Sinister - Cross the Styx 2. Six Feet Under - Haunted 3. Slayer - Divine Intervention 4. Gutted - Bleed for Us to Live 5. Carcass - Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious 6. Cryptopsy - None So Vile 7. Fuck the Facts - Self Titled 8. Immolation - Dawn of Possession 9. Goreguts - Considered Dead 10. Death - Scream Bloody Gore Story time! It was 1996, I was 17 and all the guys I hung around were into mostly nu-metal(Korn, Slipknot), alternative metal(Tool, MM), and Grunge (Alice in Chains, Nirvana). I personally liked some of the alternative music that was out then like Smashing Pumpkins, Live! and the like but I was starting to get into more thrash metal at the time. Bands like Exodus, Overkill, Testament, and the like were pretty heavy in my rotation. However I found myself wanting something heavier to listen to. Luckily for me there used to be a second hand books and record store here that had cassettes, CD's and Vinyl's of every music genre imaginable. I was there one day after school and on a whim went through the CD's and found a bunch of albums that looked "evil and heavy" based on their album art and the track names. I picked out 5 that day and in that "bundle" was Sinister's Cross the Styx, Six Feet Under's Hunated, Slayer's Divine Intervention (It was a recommendation), Gutted's Bleed for Us to Live, and Mortician's Hacked up for BBQ. When I got home the first CD I put on was Sinister's Cross the Styx and just absolutely fell in love with Aad Kloosterwaard's growls, the unrelenting beats and the guitar work. This, this is what I was looking for. The next album was Mortician and I'll admit it took me a few listens to really get into it, mainly because the drum machine was so off putting to me at first. Next up was Six Feet Under's Haunted and enjoyed it for what it was, but it seemed to me to be pretty generic even for it's time. Next Up was Gutted's Bleed for Us to Live and other than one song (Kicking the corpse), holy shit was this album was legit my favorite out of the bunch. The Ditch boys had was I was looking for as well. Lastly I put in the Slayer CD. I got it on a recommendation from one of my older friends that I hung out with and it was okay. Not their best as I would find out later... Show No Mercy is still, in my opinion, a unrelenting hate filled thrash fest to this day and I jam it pretty frequently. But those albums were my first foray into death metal.

I discovered the first C-Corpse album at a gas station on the way back home from a Rugby match in another state - it was on cassette and we didn't even have a tape deck in the car but I had to buy it and had no way of listening to it right then but did have a four hour car ride with some guys spent taking turns reading the lyrics out loud and laughing our assess off. So I knew the lyrics to all the songs inside and out before i even listened to the album which thankfully - was literally killer

Kreator - Pleasure to Kill made me like Death Metal. A lot of people claim it was Thrash , but I found a lot of similarities when I first heard Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth

Back in the early 90's some roommates turned me onto Cannibal Corpse Tomb of the Mutilated and Deicide Legion. Needless to say I was hooked and started searching for more brutal music. Moved to a small town where the heaviest thing people listened to was Metallica. I quickly introduced them into Death Metal. Started exploring more bands by who my favorite bands thanked in the inlay. Also started buying albums based on cover art. Some staple Death Metals from the early days were... Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated. Deicide - Deicide Gorguts - Erosion of Sanity Grave - You'll Never See Cancer - Death Shall Rise Accidental Suicide - Deceased Broken Hope - Repulsive Conception

You'll Never See - Yes! That was one of my first two or three death metal albums as well and I'm glad it was because the groove there makes it an excellent "gateway drug" LOL - if not for that, maybe I wouldn't have fully dove into the death metal deep end

Yeah Nile is awesome! First album I heard from these guys was "Black Seeds of Vengeance" whilst reading HP Lovecraft stories, which happens to be a weird coincidence since they're also influenced by the author, especially in their first album: consisting of short songs that hit you on the face non-stop! Ramses...- usually the opening track of my playlist - Smashing the Antiu; Barra Edinazu; Howling...just primitive Nile! Obviously the ancient egyptian themes and soundscapes are more of their thing and what they're known for - and such a sonic eulogy to history, if you ask me. Black seeds has such a perfect guitar tone; I fell in love. So dark... (I read they hadn't much time to record it but still Karl said it wasn't perfect buy he would prefer dark over heavy or something like that). As to Shrines, just wow! Man, just blast it at home and watch your walls shake when you get to "I Whisper in the ear of the dead"; it feels like you're plaguing your neighbours with the pharaohe's curse. "We Shall Never Be The Blessed Dead!" Well, then came the Annihilation album, a fan's favorite and wisely so, but my least favorite of the first four albums. I only know their discography up to Those Whom the Gods Detest: watch out for those drums! And wicked pace... A Nile ranking would be awesome! Love your channel. You keep it real and raw.

Number one reason I got into death metal was Pestilence - Consuming impulse. Cousin gave me a copy on tape and I was hooked. The main riff of Chronic Infection fucking blew my mind as a kid. Sepultura - Schizophrenia Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse Death - Leprosy Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding (no catchier opening than Stripped, Raped, and Strangled) Cancer - Death Shall Rise Morbid Angel - Covenant (the double bass opening of Rapture 🤤)

Morbid Angel got me into death metal back in 1989 but living in Alaska at the time and no internet, I didn't know it was death metal but rather just really heavy shit. I still listened to the more accessible metal afterwards like Pantera and Testament and it wasn't until I moved to the lower 48 and had my college radio show starting in '92 or '93 that I was really exposed to death metal, I even changed the format fairly quickly and it became a death metal radio show with lots of grindcore, Doom, and black metal here and there. Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation, Bolt Thrower, Grave, Broken Hope, Goreguts, Fear Factory, Brutal Truth, Brujeria, Napalm Death, Pungent Stench, Malevolent Creation, My Dying Bride, Sinister, Disincarnate, Defecation, Dismember, Immolation, Entombed, At Death's Door 1 & 2 compilations & Death Is Just The Beginning 1 & 2 compilations, Nocturnus, Samael, Seance, Pestilence, Emperor, Marduk, Morgoth and the list goes on and on. Butchered at Birth on Cassette tape was the first death metal I ever bought and Broken Hope's Bowels of Repugnance was the first DM cd I ever bought. Old video guys but I enjoyed it, lots of albums you showed us that I remember vividly. Oh and Slipknot's debut...had that one too, the first pressing with Purity and Frail Limb something something that they had to remove on later pressings. R.I.P. Joey

Death-ITP, but honestly all of them Morbid Angel-Covenant Entombed-LHP Deicide-self titled Slayer- Reign in Blood. I know this is a thrash album, but what else sounded like this in 86?! IMO this is the first death metal album.

Suffocation is hands down the best Death metal bands, they are catchy, groovy, technical, extremely heavy, brutal as all hell, and their discography is just amazing, there was a point where I listenined to them every single day In a row for about 4 months.

Death Leprosy and then Sepultura Beneath the remains some don’t class as death metal well imo tracks like primitive future are also had limited knowledge on death metal then so backing vocals on stronger than hate was by tardy shaefer obituary and atheist incubus so then got me into them bands so had huge impact on me discovering death metal also we had a radio DJ U.K. John peel played wide range of music on main station who used to do sessions on bands like Napalm Death and Bolt thrower Carcass etc before anyone would give grindcore a chance also had massive influence on me getting into extreme metal from 88-89

I'm not really a DM guy, more unto Stoner Rock/Doom really. However that said the bands I appreciate are Atheist, Cynic, Obituary and Gorguts. I don't mind a couple of Morbid Angel albums either.
