just because GTA did something first doesn't imply that every single open world game released after it would be a "clone" , sure gta did take a great leap in the open world genre , doesn't mean they OWN it

Saints row 1 and 2, sleeping dogs and the first watch dogs 1 are great games I miss when companies made decent open world crime games seems like now they’re too scared to do it cos they’ll be called gta clones

Watch Dogs was amazing but yeah being released close to GTAV tanked their sales but always fun to replay! Crackdown = amazing with a partner, tbh plays just like Saints Row but without all the crazy wacky stuff lol Simpsons H&R is the best out of all em imho😂 such freedom in Springfield felt amazing as a kid that had to wait getting any type of GTA☠️ (my first GTA I dove deep in is SA😂😂)

Simpsons hit-and-run hands-down, one of my favorite OG games. And I always appreciated Saints row because it took that goofy angle at an open world, people criticized it endlessly for not living up to the GTA style, but it was trying to be unique and do its own thing. Great addition with crackdown that was one of my favorite games and I never once compared it to GTA. I recognized it as its own thing which made me appreciate it a hell of a lot more.

GTA has no competitors. Just ride alongs. You're gonna get GTA either way, and the clones are competing with one another.

I know I'm gonna get hate for this but Driv3r, specifically the car handling. I know GTA IV exists but I found the driving in Driv3r to be my favorite of any open world game. GTA IV glues all of your tires to the pavement much of the time and the car handling feels off as a result even though in some ways it's realistic. The transfer of momentum in GTA IV also feels like it's in slow motion. Driv3r feels weighty in a more intuitive way because there's nothing besides gravity keeping your car on all four wheels. The physics can be hilariously buggy at times but most of the time it feels great, and when it freaks out it's usually infrequent and entertaining enough to not be frustrating.

Crackdown isn't really a GTA clone, it's more akin to Infamous, Prototype, Sunset Overdrive, Destroy All Humans and Just Cause.

Calling an open world crime game a gta clone is like calling silent hill a resident evil clone Gta did not create a driving game set in an open world city, driver did (atleast in a 3d space) and mafia 1 was in development before gta 3 Im so sick of this damn franchise getting this privilege that other franchises never get where any game that is similar is labelled as just a cheap knockoff A “gta clone” in my eyes is one of those cheap mobile games, not these games
