I'm like a 40 handicap, and can barely hit a golf ball. But my last round I started writing down how many shots I lost to mental mistakes (bad swing thoughts, wrong club choice, trying to hit hero shots) and it came to about 25. I could break 100 just by playing a perfect mental game. This advice can be applied at every level.

@@anttisavolainen547I’ve been following the way of the playa and breaking 90 consistently recently. If your driver is putting you in positions that force you to take like 3+ unnecessary strokes a round (either penalty or punch out) then leave it at home. For me driver is one of my strongest clubs so I play it but a lot of people could save strokes without it.

Totally true! I hadn't really noticed until this past weekend when I seemed to string together a fair number of pars without hitting many good shots. I was amazed at how many times I could hit one or two bad shots on a par 4 hole and scramble for par or 3 bad shots and get par on a par 5 with one good chip getting it close. I actually fell apart a bit on the back and had a string of bogies and doubles, but still ended with an 88. I'm currently playing at 16 HC, so I was pretty happy.

"Take joy in missing out on that one perfect shot" such wise words. I'd started obsessing over "magic pill" swing fixes at the range for a month and my handicap went up from 3.1 to 4... I passed along the bit posted a few days ago about practicing pitching and chipping, then realized the irony. I did that instead of range for one practice session and then went out and shot a 73 (tied for my best round ever) with a birdie putt for 72 that I hit a little bit too hard. So much less pressure on things when you realize you don't have to (and never are going to) hit every fairway and green.

Matt, after watching your last lesson on the whiteboard, I played more conservative and playing JOMO golf at my local par 3 course. If you ever come to Florida you will definitely want to play there. I shot a record breaking 64, 10 over par! Things I did better because of this: Not once in a bunker (although I’m pretty good getting out of them), no double bogeys, no 3 putts. All of this playing JOMO. On the longer holes I didn’t use driver that I normally would. I might add, I also decided to quit trying for the pin and to just try to hit to center distance on the green. Amazing brain thoughts you have given me! Now this video showing BDOG for the most part doing it, after watching his progression with you, has me at I can’t wait to try this out on my home regular course. Thanks for all your videos!! 😊❤

I'm a 13.4 index officially and shoot from 82 on a great day, 94 on a horrible one and around 87 on average day; that's from 6300yds ish with 70/128 ish on slope and rating. Your explanations and course management really do work for lowering scores and staying consistent.

Man those greens were wicked fast. My problem is the occasional cranio-rectal inversion. Shot an 88 Monday but on a par 5 up left of a green side bunker. Shitty beat up bunker short and water behind. Shoulda putted around and took the bogey. Instead, chunked one into bunker, then over into the water. Walked to next tee with a quadruple bogey. That should be an 85 even with with two 3-putts. The tees were way up but it’s just nice to be on the right side of 90 again.

Shot 86 the last day for the first time on a par 74, i'll take it as a break 85 on a par 72.. Used your score card modification advice, i messed up all the pars by adding a few strokes here and there , i was aiming to break 90 so 16 over , couldn't keep up with the counting since everything was messed up, that was the best thing ever not to know where i was at, i'll never keep counting my score ever again from now on. I screwed up my back nine making 5 doubles so i thought i screwed my goal and i ended 4 shots lower, i was so happy. and def could have played under 10 over if it didn't do stupid things. That's motivating!

@@GolfSidekick if you take out the 3 holes I totally screwed up I'd have shot 8 over. So I see exactly what you're talking about. Shooting under 90 doesn't take good golf, it just takes average shots over and over again. I just need to get more consistent, so I bought a new set of Callaway clubs and I'm going to get a fitting done. And of course keep watching more of your videos, keep up the good work

You definitely wanna make sure to make a good swing in particular shots over water and bunkers. I can tell the greens were really fast on this golf course; he should have used a shorter firmer stroke for putts closer to the hole aiming more towards the hole. A few more practice swings before each shot and he should hit it when he’s ready. He could benefit from a smaller head driver also. Other than that he’s pretty solid 😊

Watched this and shot a solid 89 on the course yesterday morning after shooting 100 a couple weeks ago using the “get as close as you can no matter what” method. This is literally my golf game. I shoot pars and bogies on most holes besides about 3 or 4 holes, which are usually triples that dramatically increase my score. Usually due to one or two bad shots/decisions. So frustrating.

I am currenly an 18 handicap and havent been playing a whole lot laltey so im playing prob like a 25 or 30 , My games been very inconsistent and only play once a week because im an everyday surfer, when I do play I have a nice long golf swing drives and woods over 200 and exalent short game but i have a very inconsistent swing patternon the tee and fairway and i am constily hitting out of bounds and getting multiple triple bogeys a day last summer i played almost everyday started to shoot in the low 90s and couldnt really break 90 frequently, my goal this summer is to try to break it again but the only thing holding me back is my mental game, let me know if anyone has any advice

Hey playa in chief I need your advice, I’ve been playing golf 2-3 times a week for 6 months now but I get no distance on the irons at all. I can hit drivers 220-240metres but I hit an 8 iron 60m and barely get a 3iron or 4iron longer than 100m, while you and Bdog are hitting 50° and 60° i would be hitting a 3 or 4 iron it’s rather discouraging. When does distance become increased in the beginners game? Did you guys have the same distance problem when you were beginners?

@@chunkz1187 I would suggest a new coach if that is the case. It's very strange for a driver to go 240 and an 8 iron goes 60 m from the same golfer. Either some information is missing, your clubs are fake or the coach is not doing anything for you. After 4 lessons you should see improvement at the very last in distance.

I'm not getting paid to golf. I golf for fun. I typically shoot mid to low 80s. When I buckle down and play smart and strategic golf, I'll score in the high 70s. However, I enjoy taking risks and trying fun shots that are not the best play. The score on the card doesn't mean much to me, so I just have fun. I'm not a complete loose cannon, as I don't enjoy losing balls.
