Nice. I'm just a beginner, so excuse me if I write in English. Just a question: what's the Greek for "like", "follow" and "street interview"?
@EasyGreekVideos3 жыл бұрын
Like and follow in the social media sense don't really have popular Greek equivalents. «Λάικ» and «φόλοου» are quickly headed to becoming English loanwords, like many words born on the internet. «Κάντε μας λάικ και φόλοου» would be "like and follow us». "To like" in Greek has weird syntax, so it's kind of awkward, but indeed some people also use the normal verb for "follow" in Greek which is «ακολουθώ», with "follower" being «ακόλουθος». Street interview is «συνέντευξη δρόμου»
@casimirocontarini92303 жыл бұрын
@@EasyGreekVideos thanks. As far as I know, “to like” in Greek has a syntax similar to the Italian equivalent (I’m Italian): μου αρέσει τό παγωτό = mi piace il gelato. Am I right? In Italian now we almost only use the English terms for “like” and “follow” as well, but if we were to speak Italian properly, we would say “Metti ‘mi piace’ (=μου αρέσει) e seguici (= follow us)”.

@@choreologychannel It's wrong but if you actually say it, nothing will happen...You're not gonna sound weird because, everyday we do a lot of grammar mistakes (and vocabulary etc..). However try use the grammar correctly. It's the best you can do for you...and for us!
@choreologychannel4 жыл бұрын
@@DrMariannaWWinchester Thanks. I think there are different perspectives on what constitutes a grammatical 'mistakes'. There's the prescriptivist perspective that identifies any usage outside of the established 'norm' (in grammars, style guides and textbooks) as a 'mistake'. This mindset is conservative and resists language change. It's a kind of 'top down' approach to language. And there's the descriptivist perspective that identifies widespread usage outside of the 'norm' as a viable alternative with the potential to eventually become normative. This mindset is more 'liberal' in terms of its openness towards language change as a historical inevitability. For example, many (or even most) English speakers say things like, "Who are you going with?" rather than "With whom are you going?" A hardcore prescriptivist may reject the former as a grammatical ‘mistake’ (and even correct other people who use it in writing or even in speech). But, a descriptivist will recognize that there is a global trend in the English language to jettison the inflected personal pronoun “whom” altogether, in favor of "who". So, technically, according to descriptivism, “Who are you going with?” is not a “mistake”. It’s a viable alternative. And, eventually, it will probably be the norm when the current generation of conservative speakers dies out. Simply put, the pronoun "whom" is on its way out of the English language. So, I’m wondering if this whole business of Greek speakers' saying, “έχω φάει χθες” is actually a widespread trend in Modern Greek; or if this guy just randomly slipped up and made a proper ‘mistake’. In other words, is this, perhaps, just the way some people talk? If this 'mistake' were pointed out to him, would he acknowledge that it was a 'mistake' (something he actually didn't mean to say)?
@DrMariannaWWinchester4 жыл бұрын
@@choreologychannel well....I don't know.😁 For me, it's wrong and I would never say that. But for others...probably they wouldn't notice. But I think the "prescriptivist perspective" is the most accurate (in this specific example). ------ By the way, nice elaboration! I enjoyed reading it!
