The benefits of grow tents are usually shadowed by the misunderstanding of what they are for. And depending or your setup, you may not need to spend much money on ventilation options.

Very helpful video explaining everything. I have a 108x48x80 to keep my tropicals (mango tree, miracle berry) in and also try growing greens in a tower garden. I have a few other random plants in there - it's pretty full. I have 2x 1000 LED grow lights and just picked up 4 Barina 42W T8 grow lights for the Tower Garden. I have 1 mini fan in there and the humidity is very high 86%. I understand from your video that I could purchase 6" AC Infinity Inline to extract the air out. Would this be all I need, do I need to bring air in also?? I am having a very hard time trying to figure out all the things I need. I am currently watching all your videos to learn. Thank you so much.
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 2 жыл бұрын
Extracting air brings in the air. And that’s a pretty large space. If there is an 8 inch version it might be better to use that to run at lower speeds but 6 should be OK. It doesn’t need to run very fast speeds unless the temperature climbs up. The more heat build up the more air and movement you need. You’ll need to tailor it to your conditions.

Awesome video!! If i'm using a 204 CFM inline fan with filter to exhaust air from my room, what type of fan would i need to bring in fresh air to the room? I'm planning on bringing in the air from the house and not outside. Thanks in advance.
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 3 жыл бұрын
Well first if you plan to exhaust air to the outside then air from the outside will replace the air you exhaust. Unless your home is air tight. Then at that point your house would become a low pressure vacuum and you’d go into hypoxia. That’s obviously not possible...The point is, the volume of aid you exhaust to the outside will be equivalent to the air coming in through door frames, window seals, outlets etc. And that should answer your other question too. You don’t need 2 fans unless your talking about exhausting the tent into the room. Then you’d need to vent the room too. Just about any fan would work for that.

I recently created a grow tent from scratch, using gigantic 4ft cardboard boxes and diamond reflective mylar film to line them, and it's a pretty well constructed house for my hot pepper plants and 4ft t5 grow light/stand. My question is, where should I created a hole in this tent for ventilation? I will be buying a cheap little fan to do this, but where exactly should I have this, on the top side of this tent, the side, where? Thanks :-)

Thanks for this video, short and sweet. However I have one more question. I bought both types of fan, (the small one, Igot two and the other with the carbon filter). At this moment I am running with the small because I hve only one plant about 3-4 weeks old (I am not planning to grow more than 3 before a while). My question is, am I better already using my carbon filter/fan before the flowering stage or using only my 4 inch inline fan or combining my 2 other fan (one from WM, the other Honeywell turbo fan)? I will add, there is almost no smell outside the tent for now and the way you put the small fan on the top of the tent looks like it can provide sufficient air flow.Thank you.

Is a duct fan gonna SUCK all the air & moisture out of that room? (That sucks all the cigarette smoke out of a room?) I used to have something installed in an old room I used to rent that was a grow room before I moved in the wood floor was all wavy & messed up - damaged from the grow room but the cool part was this light switch I could flick up that would somehow suck all the cigarettes smoke out of the room through some silver laundry dryer hose looking thing that went straight outside. @GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 4 жыл бұрын
The amount of air you suck out of your house is equivalent to the amount of air that comes back in from the outside cumulatively Through every window frame and crevice and door. To put that in perspective it would be like putting a fan on your windowsill and blowing the air in from the outside. But unless your house is very small and your furnace does not work well you likely will not notice. It likely would just increase your heating bill a little bit.

@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 4 жыл бұрын
g metz ur making it too complicated. You don’t need to think about intake size vs outlet size to approximate a desired temperature. You just need a 6 inch or better outlet with the same or better sized inlet. You control temperature with a fan that has a built in thermostat or just use an inline thermostat to control your exhaust fan.

Thanks for the Info! A quick question for you, for a 10x10x6'11 grow tent I am using 12 250watt LED's - would a S10 (Airflow: 1201 CFM) be an adequate amount of airflow ?
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 4 жыл бұрын
Andrew S 3000 watts of light? I imagine that’s a lot of heat. Ur exchanging the air in the room roughly every 30 seconds. So yes I would say that’s more than enough flow.
@andrux6308
@andrux6308 4 жыл бұрын
@@GrowingAnswers Okay ! Thanks for the response! I must have something wrong in my calculation for CFM then. I was told 10x10x6'11 would be 690 CFM and each LED light would add roughly 7% along with the carbon air filter adding 25% of total. So (690 CFM x 48% ) + (25%) = to about 1275 CFM So for the LED lights is it just 7% of total not 7% for each light ?
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 4 жыл бұрын
@@andrux6308 You said ur fan was 1201 cfm. Im not doing exact calculations. Its just a rough figure. If you have that kind of setup it sounds like you already know what ur doing though. If you have LED then most of your heat will accumulate it the top. So if you have exhaust at the top of the tent and inlets at the bottom, you should have no problem removing heat. I would go as far as to say you only need half that CFM. as far as plants go i dont think they even need the air to be fully exchanged once a minute. So sounds like ur good either way.

quesnelle200 depends on the amount of plants. The more congested it is, the more flow you need. A desk fan won’t really cut it if you fill up that 4x4. On a 2x2 it would, but a 4x4 is pushing it. You can try it and monitor humidity levels. If you can’t get humidity low enough, you need more power.

Jennifer it all depends on how much is in it. 6 inch inline fan would be fine, but the flow rate depends on the humidity. You need a humidity gauge and then adjust the flow rate to keep the humidity from rising too high. It’s a matter of dialing it in for your situation. 80% humidity is ok for seedlings, but some adults plants don’t like it that high. Plants like tomatoes and cucumbers can get diseases or mildew easier with higher humidity.

can I put the carbon filter outside the tent - ducting leading into tent hole - to the fan which faces into the tent??
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 3 жыл бұрын
Carbon filters have a pre-filter that goes on the outside of them to filter dust. If you force air from the inside out then you don’t filter the dust and you will clog up your carbon sooner. However you decide to do it, you want to be pulling air out of your tent and not pushing it in. In other words your tent needs to have the walls being sucked inward while the fan is in use.

Hi I accidentally(stupidly) put my hand in the Aluminium outlet of my fan to insert an ONA BLOCK inside but it blocked the airflow for a small time 2-3 seconds max and it made the fan sound louder for that period of time . Now I think that the fan has got Louder while operating . is this the result of a quick outlet blockage or that blockage won't affect the fan function at all ?I would like to know if its only in my head or the fan can get damaged/louder if the outlet is blocked for couple of seconds ? Thank You for considering my question

Get the inline fan to attach to the filter. Use a duct fan to help exhaust the air coming out of the in-line on the end of your duct run or use it as an intake fan to complete your push pull setup. I put my duct fan on the bottom and let it suck air into the tent. Then attached my inline fan to the Carbon filter on 1 side and into the duct that exits the tent. Good luck!

@GrowingAnswers

Health Mind & More not sure I understand what you mean. I have a few tents venting in my basement all the time and never see humidify over 60%. But my basement is waterproofed so having a dry environment to start with helps. If you need to add humidity, it should never have to be much with hydro because the roots are always pumping moisture to the leaves. That’s a circumstantial question.

@@GrowingAnswers Thanks. There are many big water basins required for kratky, dwc or ebb and i can only imagine these water masses have a high evaporation level specially during summer season and i don't want to damage the house. Have U hear about maybe earth-ponics?/air stones directly in the earth plus a wicking system at bottom ...

The mushroom/humidity damage is a myth to strengthen the drug war folklore. Even with a huge flood and drain system, Kratky tubs all over, a RDWC system and whatever else you can think of growing in a basement with, your RH won’t be a concern unless you live somewhere that already has high humidity. Then you’d just run a dehumidifier to keep it at where you want it.
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 4 жыл бұрын
Tom Bryant that’s not true. High humidity in a grow tent growing something like cucumbers would lead to powdery mildew an mold pretty quick. I gotten mold before on tomato plants on the lower leaves where they were visibly moist compared to the upper leaves. It’s because my airflow was too low and I needed to prune.

@GrowingAnswers

I can’t say I condone growing weed for the sake of many reasons, but I can approach the question as with any plant. Carbon filters will remove around 90% of smells. But you need fresh air no matter what. So just an internal circulation with no air exiting the tent will be recipe for failure. A small 2x2 is find for closet spaces.
