Hey Daz, I'm sorry to randomly post this but I'm trying my hardest to spread the word around, especially around people I feel will take this matter seriously. People, please don't dump your rubbish, especially face masks. My 2 year old dog, Pippa is currently at the vets and has been there for two nights now. We noticed she was sick a while ago, she refused to eat for a few days straight and kept throwing up. The last straw for us was when she dug a hole in the garden and laid in it, hiding from us. (This is usually a sign from sick dogs that they're dying and can't defend themselves.) We took her to the vets that day but they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, so they gave her an anti illness vax and sent her home. The next day (yesterday) she was worse, so we took her back to the vets. She stayed there all day alone, having blood tests and ultra scans taken. They found an infection but couldn't find anything in the scans. They called us to update us with the news, informing us she'd had an antibiotic injection and would most likely be feeling well enough to come home the next day. After they hung up, they decided to take a second look at her scans just to be sure and realised there seemed to be something stuck in her stomach. They told us that she needed an emergency operation if she had any chance of surviving the night - had they realised the real situation any later, she wouldn't have made it through to this morning.. Turns out she had eaten a disposable face mask, and the wire and the elastic had gotten stuck in her intestines, causing them to tangle and knot; resulting in the death of a portion of her intestine. This really breaks my heart, all of this because people can't be bothered to walk a few more metres to the bin! It makes me so angry. Pippa can't come home to us until she proves she's strong enough to fight and survive the effect that this operation has had on her body. She's been attached to an IV drip two nights in a row now, still not eating and it's still not looking very likely that she's coming home for a while. All of these vet fees are going to cost us over £1,000, and I'm sure a lot of you can understand and relate to not having that type of money.. Please take this as a lesson and a warning to not dump your rubbish, the next time you're out and you see rubbish, specially masks - I'm begging you, please think of Pippa and your own pets if you have any and do the world a favour: pick it up. Please keep Pippa in your thoughts and prayers, and let her be strong enough to survive and come back home to us 💔
