I think there's one thing that many people forget about when they talk about the rebellion versus the empire is that the rebellion was mostly United but there was so much inner turmoil among the empire that it's almost a miracle that it never erupted into a civil war

In legends I recall the imperials had lot of money in the core banks and the galaxies corporations like kuat and sienar most of those worlds were new republic after endor or alliance secretly during the civil war , but yes system banks and hidden wealth was a big thing but the banking clan backed the republic too . But yes black market and organised crime will have profited greatly

If Dooku was killed on Geonosis the Republic would win the Clone Wars earlier in this timeline because once he was dead the Separatist Council which had the held the real power in the CIS besides Sidious and Dooku would surrender and Order 66 would never happen since the war ends earlier.Anakin also remains in the Jedi Order never turning to the Dark Side while keeping his marriage with Padme a secret

The Imperial Fortunes probably were spread out by hundreds of thousands bankers or warlords that took control by force. The Galactic Economy was probably in shambles by the time of Endor and the death of Palpatine would have been destructive to a recovery to the Economy. The massive military industrial complex was the heart of the Galactic Empire Economy, and also a massive weakness for a economic power, but chances are that many within the Galactic Empire high command didn’t give a hoot about the Economy because they were hold both the banks and economic power, though considering that the Galactic Empire was probably in massive debt without a proper grasp on the economy.

Heavy investment in the massive military industrial complex aside, what made the Empire think building the second Death Star is a good idea? After it has been proven that Death Star is a massive waste of resources, money and time, why continue it anyway instead of going for something like the producing the TIE-Defenders and manufacturing more Star Destroyers?

In a word: Palpatine. The real point of the Death Star 2 wasn't just to serve as a replacement for the first one, it was also meant as a trap to draw out the rebel forces. Though they'd been dealt a heavy blow at Hoth and scattered across the galaxy, they were still a massive thorn in the Empire's side, and the Imperial Military was simply not capable of dealing with their hit and run tactics. More Star Destroyers would not solve the problem, since their basic design was meant for combat against other warships, which was rather counterintuitive when facing off against the starfighter-oriented Alliance. While the TIE Defender was certainly capable of going up against the Alliance ships and could have meant serious trouble if it were put into rapid production, the logistics of phasing out the older TIE fighters would have been a nightmare. Additionally, the time it would take to refit the entire Imperial Fleet would be used by the Rebels and would probably have cost the Empire more ground, turning what was once an insurgency into a full blown war between two factions. Moreover, the cost of the TIE Defenders meant that they could not be mass produced like the regular fighters, meaning that they would have to be deployed strategically across the Empire's galaxy-spanning holdings. There just wouldn't be enough TIE Defenders to protect the entirety of the Empire, and the Rebels would likely still be able to do plenty of damage with their hit and run tactics even WITH TIE Defenders to worry about. For Palpatine, the best solution was to lure out the Rebels in full force, trap them, and destroy them. And it would have worked, if they'd cleared out the forest moon more thoroughly.

Sidious properly knew this was going to happen eventfully and hid most of his resources and wealth in those outposts close to the unknown regions and further inward with his own plans to create the first and final order later on... operation cinder wasn't just a one-sided stupid plan as we thought it was all along since Battlefront 2. There were plans within plans going on behind his mind and the scenes. He allowed some of the empire's fortunes to fall into his rogue imperial and rebel hands throughout the galaxy to ensure that people thought that others stole it during the collapse = so he can make it look like he's really gone for good, while secretly using the majority of his materials elsewhere to rebuild in the unknown regions while the galaxy and republic was hopelessly trying to recover from the long awaited achievement of taking back the free galaxy and managing the new republic with all the reconstruction and management of it all. It was inevitable anyway that some, to most of it would be lost regardless. If some of the resources were still scattered throughout the empire in smaller portions, while still looking impressive in built up of wealth just enough to make it look like a majority of his riches for others to steal, everyone's going to think that the missing wealth was taken by thieves, traitors and pirates. Although some of those events still happened where rogue imperials + rebels and galactic citizens looted these huge places of material wealth = it wasn't the most important ones needed by Sidious to use again for his return to power later on. Data + facilities + minerals + ships + technology, living assets and other bits of machinery all were collected and moved around by him and the empire pre-Endor secretly to prepare for this moment. It's crazy but, the Star Wars universe doesn't always tell us everything about the whole story in verse of every single bit of detail that is or could be happening... even the old republic era Sith Emperor had his long-awaited master plans that took centuries to prepare for = that's just how they are... empires weren't built in a day, but they sure can be broken apart in one. Although George Lucas would've done the sequel trilogy far more justice than what Disney gave us... but still, even the prequels were never really liked at first when they first came out until after the Clone Wars series came about in 2008 onwards... so the Mandalorian and other new Star Wars material for the next 10 years onwards will either add to that story leading up to it as a whole with a lot more understanding in realization or just delete the sequels altogether and start anew. #/Hashtag: Make Legends' material canon again!!!
