People forget that the safety granted by the government is a fake one. The government is held accountable by the people, and when they lose either the freedom to do so, or the responsibility of doing so, for example when you give the responsibility of social welfare to the government instead of doing so yourself, then you lose the responsibility of caring for the people in your city so you won't pay attention to the people suffering around them or when they do they don't try to care for them. So when people don't pay attention, or care to think about the problems/dangers, then the government won't be held accountable and the safety is lost.

So, I have a friend in Beijing who saw everything and survived, and said that when he left the building to leave the city he was shocked and traumatized by the amount of bodies and the state of these bodies. He does not know how an announcement of only 33 dead was made when just to get out of the city he saw more than 100 easily just on the way out of the city. It also impresses me that countries like Brazil have elected people with the same sense of governance.

In relation to secret dam discharges - the government secretly releases the flood without informing the citizens to evacuate early because it would save the cost of compensating them for their property. By making man-made disasters seem like a natural disaster the CCP avoids culpability and having to pay compensation, and people are likely (expected) to then thank the Communist Party for any help and aid.

I'm quite amazed by the differences between China and my country (Slovenia) that also had historical floods this week. The difference is night and day. One of our bigger problems atm is that there are so many volunteers and rescue teams we have problems delegating work for all od them, but for ccp the problem is how to hide they actually have a problem.

In China the government prevented civilians and non-governmental organizations from helping. Many people who tried to help also found out that local governments were withholding or selling relief supplies meant to be donated to flood victims.

One thing that has not been talked about, since we're talking about 'after the floods' is the standing bodies of contaminated water that has yet to be drained and the dead bodies of humans and animals that have not been cleared. How many days from first of the flooding until the first reports of disease vectors start appearing? We should be looking for people mentioning cases of typhoid fever, cholera, leptospirosis and hepatitis A, malaria, dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever, yellow fever, and West Nile Fever. Further, I'm not seeing anyone talking about chemical burns from walking and swimming in flooded areas. Some of the diseases should already be appearing, others will take another week or two.

We Japanese, as neighbors, have long known the ways of China, they have become huge economic powers but basically nothing has changed from past dynasties. We don't like China's way of doing things, but for economic reasons we're basically silent. I haven't forgotten what they did in the 2011 train crash. The only thing I would like to say is that even those who can easily see through China's recent lies and propaganda operations are easily swallowing the propaganda and figures released by China in the past. Basically, the numbers that are inconvenient for the party are few, and the numbers that are favorable to the party are greatly exaggerated. Their propaganda work has been going on long before the events of Tiananmen, and specifically since the founding of the country. It didn't start with Xi Jinping.

Floods are 100% scariest natural disaster to me. Fire? Tornado? Snow? Once those disasters have died down, they are just gone. But floods? You have water damage to your walls. Mold starting to grow. I would include hurricanes since they are both flooding and destructive winds. Both floods and hurricanes can generally be predicted. But if the flood is intentionally created by the government and they don't give proper warning, that is not a natural disaster. It is a human created disaster which is even worse and why the CCP is scared.

It’s obvious that more than 33 people died during this horrific flood, just the people that were washed away on that bridge while trapped in their cars is more than 33 people, who knows how many people there are that were in the submerged subway system. I feel really terrible for all these people, I can’t imagine living through such devastation. In the flooded cities that were flooded in the middle of the night it showed people trapped on their rooftops screaming for help who’s voices turned silent when no relief ever arrived. That’s just the people that were able to get onto their roofs it doesn’t account for the untold numbers of people that lived in basement level apartments. I imagine there are hundreds of bodies buried among all that rubble they are now trying to dig through and it’s disgusting that the CCP would let this happen to its poorest citizens. Haven’t they had hard enough lives living in poverty only to have what little they do own washed away by redirected flood waters trying to keep Xi-Xi Pings trophy city from flooding when it hasn’t even gotten anyone to live in it. It’s disgraceful and I only pray that these people didn’t have to suffer before they died. I watched one clip where the water came through a warehouse and all the packages were inundated by muddy water and washed away… I couldn’t see the people who were filming from higher ground, but the sound of this one man’s anguish broke my heart! It was probably their entire yield, and you could not miss the devastation. I wish more ppl were speaking out like you! The videos provided only elevate concerns of the hardships that the average citizen must face, when is overwhelming for Americans. When I head of the floods and saw the first videos, I was appalled by the devastation and words from my favorite KZbinr is: "what comes next?" rings in my head. The flood devastation is only the tip. I've seen the earlier videos about the pollution of waters in the ground, separating cooking oils from waste water, and lack of drainages, but with the floods washing over cars, businesses, homes, what about human wastes, pesticides, household/cleaning chemicals, fuel, poisons flooding over land and water? Biochemical and organic pollution covering the land and waters being tracked over by human movement as well. Grounds for toxic contamination widespread and traveling throughout the flood water movement. That is a huge environmental and biological nightmare. With all this plus debt from the one belt road, economic issues from banking, construction, manufacturing decrease, banking issues, corruption, supporting Russia in Ukraine conflict and military built up in China sea islands and tension over Taiwan/neighboring nations and United State, seems like China leadership is working to compete with Putin as to being the most irresponsible leadership to their own citizens. Power does seem to corrupt regardless of politics.

Hawaii is no different. Fire trucks were diverted to million-dollar homes in upper Maui while Lahaina town burned. The death toll was 6 on the first day 67 on the third, but responders reported hundreds of dead, so many that they ran out of body bags. They saved the hotels in the resort area by evacuating them first and causing a traffic jam that hindered the local people in Lahaina from evacuating. I wonder if we are just as bad as the Chinese government here in Hawaii.
