Good luck with the recovery Richard. My wife broke her clavicle last December (over the handlebars) ... She had to have the op and have a plate and pins inserted, but no pain and recovery took a couple of months, but brilliant now. Its really important you don't do to much to early. Let it heal. Best of luck mate.

I'm still recovering from a fractured wrist that happened when I crashed out 9 weeks ago. Different to you I know but I was surprised how much finger strength I've lost because I stopped using my injured hand for 6 weeks while the fracture was healing. Good luck and here's hoping you're back on 2 wheels before the good weather fizzles out.

Bone takes 6 weeks to repair, so can't do anything that aggravates that repair. You'll soon sort strength after that. I'm the zero painkillers / shoulder guy earlier, I noticed that sitting in any one position for too long would cause strain, so I tried to alleviate this for first few weeks, then I would only do easy shoulder mobility a few times a day, no strength stuff. I had very good recovery & sorted strength later. Note you have tendons & ligaments too which take longer than muscle to heal (well known by climbers). Highly recommend a physio at least once after bone healed.

I know it's very early, but do you feel any desire to finish PbP ?

Hi Richard. I'm not exactly sure from your videos I have seen exactly what damage you have done to your collarbone. Was it just a dislocation of the ACL joint? or a break or both? I have broken my collarbone twice now. First time was with dislocation of the ACL joint and associated tissue damage. That one took a good 6 weeks to heal before I could start to do anything more serious. The second time was a lot more serious, and I have to have surgical repair with a plate and screws. In both cases within a few weeks I was on the turbo. You just need to be patient and to not rush things. If you can get on the turbo, even for 30 minutes or so it will help. Given time it's physio. (I have never fully regained the full range of motion of my left shoulder, but it's not bad. You just need to push it as much as you can). Look at Bob and Brad on YT for exercises.

Sorry didn't reply earlier not really be replying to any comments. Managed to get out for a ride first time today just to see how I felt. I will be pushing myself gradually but no steep hills for a little while still as my arm tires quickly. In terms of the clavicle, you could say it's discloated yes, big boney lump now protruding off my shoulder. I turned up for surgery but had a convo with the surgeon beforehand and decided to let nature takes its course. I have pretty good motorability still, but I feel every movement if that makes sense. Ride finished maybe 15 minutes so a few pains despite painkillers and a little achy for sure. Just takes time I guess!

As frustrating as it is for you, try to stay positive. You will heal in time, and be back on your bike before you know it. Anyway, re the beard…I reckon you should have that moustache we talked about.😁

No real advice Rich - just to stay active in the way you are doing. You'll know when you're ready to step it up (I think that uncomplicated fractured clavicles take around six weeks to heal but there'll be residual stiffness due to lack of use/range of movements). I know that when I face down time through injury or illness that it is all too easy to slip down mentally too, so keeping the old noddle occupied and socialising are more important than one might think. Get well soon.

Yep nothing till the bones are sorted, top up on the box sets, keep walking and going outside to keep that immune system kicking. Will be out that way this weekend on the bike so if you can pause Walter White & Saul Goodman I might buy you a Coffee or Ice Cream if your about :)
