A small caveat to this generally good advice; if you are using the invul to avoid a command grab, then you should hold it because you can charge to level two before they recover and punish with that.

I was watching iDom's restream of this and he said that EW might have been trying to knowledge check Mena with the charged super on block, since it has additional pushback when it's charged making the punish kind of awkward - EW would have recovered his drive gauge by then, making him safe from checkmate ...I have a feeling Luke stHP would be a brainless punish on it anyway, knowledge check aside, lmao. Regardless, it was really smart of Mena to EX DP there, his awareness is incredible

He probably thought that Luke was going to block, and so holding it can make it so that the opponent gets pushed back more so you don't get easily punished; he was definitely not expecting that DP at all.

@@chahidlatoundji9338 I don't think Mena predicted the hold....I think the ODDP was a fast reaction hail mary to avoid the wakeup super. As high fight pointed out, the ODDP would have evaded a nonheld wakeup super and crossed over Ryu...but Ryu would still be +10 to punish. Still, I'd be curious to know what Mena was thinking in that moment. I hope someone asks him about this exchange.

MenaRD was smart to use Luke instead of Blanka. And even then it came down to the last match, last round, one hit kills. Very intense set.

They played before and Mena's Blanka got destroyed by EW Ryu. EW knows that matchup due to problem X so likely Luke is better on him by default

Actually, holding down the charge for hashogeki is not a tactical flaw on endingwalkers part. If we relook into the play, we noticed that when Luke rushed towards ryu and endingwalker performed lvl 2, we still do not know at that point whether Menard had already committed to a light attack. If it really turns out that Menard did not press any attack button, he could easily block endingwalkers lvl 2 and punish him for it. Therefore, as a safety precaution, endingwalker chose to hold the charge to full so that he can, at the very least, push menard far away with his full charge to keep himself from a safe distance. All in all, i will say it was an excellent match and it could have resulted in either player's victory

This is what I thought as well. He was trying to push in case he didn't commit to an attack which would've pushed Luke away so he could be safe.

Ryu level 1 super is not projectile invincible so it loses to Luke doing od fireball. Super 2 is fully invincible though.

I actually think MenaRD went for the +0 cr jab lp which can be cancelled into ex special move or super if screen got freeze. I thought he was using the sf6 +0 wakeup cancelling tech.

If you watch closely mena also pressed jab before the DP which is bullshit that Luke can do that. He had that many frames after the drive rush cancel. There's no downside to drive rush... Just do it
