In Tekken people often call this: keepout, whiff punish, 50/50. You either run in and do 50/50 (between low and mid as they require different block, most moves don’t chip and leave you negative on block). If opponent runs in you press a keepout move. Opponent dashing in can’t block (but you can cancel to do shorter dashes). So your launcher hits them. Now if your opponent spams keepout moves you press a long range whiff punish move. These are also often launchers. In Tekken whiffing has a high risk. You could lose half of your life. Similarly dashing in is risky. The game also has very high reward 50/50 mixups so you don’t want to let your opponent close to initiate a mixup.
