There was quite a bit to unpack for Re Zero’s season 2 part 1 finale. Especially with regards to the emotional encounter Subaru had with Satella. Not only was a very significant plot point about her excluded from the anime, but the other witches had a lot more time in the spotlight as well. I'm not sure why but the witches have never struck me as overly evil but I guess that's kinda the point, they just have very defining flaws that make them more witch then human, like Daphne's hunger/gluttony would make it so she has absolutely no trouble out eating an infinitely spawning killer rabbit. and Echidna's offer would be very compelling if you didn't have an ability that would let her be able to play with your life like an ever non consequential visual novel just to satisfy her unending curiosity.

@@MonoReaper Spoiler : Yeah sure they killed a lot of people, but most of them don't killed them intentionally. Example, Satella killed half of the world, but that is her split persona Witch of Envy. Sekhmet killed her clan and a group of men that helped her (cuz she has no sense of gratitude back then) and doubt she kills anyone more, maybe except for someone that ruins her peace, she will kill them. Daphne creating mabeast in the first place is to fix world hunger, cuz she is immortal but still in constant hunger, so she's suffering from hunger but cannot die. Because she doesn't want everyone to be starved, she created the mabeast, her goal is good. But as you know, her creatures become more powerful than human so human always lose their lives to the mabeast, but her intention in the first place not to kill humans. Carmilla, most of the village and town fight for her (simp war) probably because of her Faceless Bride Authority, which makes everyone sees her as the one that they want to hear and look the most, like Subaru seeing Rem in Carmilla. But does she want everyone to kill each other though? No, she never even slightest want them to fight for her, so she rejects someone that proposes to her. Echidona, the most neutral person 400 years ago. Remember 400 years ago she uses her knowledge for good deeds, but now she is different, most people and nobles seek for her wisdom, do they got false knowledge? No, she's a good therapist and advisor, maybe the client needs to pay in exchange for a new knowledge, not their lives or money. Minerva, not intentionally. She causes calamity on the other side of the world everytime she heals someone, don't know what kind of calamity, but probably natural disasters that kills a lot of people. Natural disaster maybe not always a fucking tsunami or volcano eruption maybe some tornado or storm, still maybe killed a lot of people though. Anyway TL;DR my point is that Witches of Sin are not completely evil, sure they kill a lot of people, but most of them is not their true goal/intention. Most of them has a twisted common sense that makes them dangerous, but if you can treat them properly, you can makes allies/help with them. Example Typhon, never said that you are guilty, and maybe your body won't broke. Echidna, don't get manipulated by her completely, ask for her advice for 2-3 times but remember to not completely rely on her just like what Subaru did. I'm not justifying their sins or massacre, I only understanding why they do that. But doubt The Witches of Sin will be the main antagonist, either Witch of Envy or Pandora will be the last boss. Again, I disagree with people that said they are completely evil but I disagree too with people that said they're completely good. I only agree with people that said they are neutral.

Edit: SPOILERS Arc 5 actually isn't that bad for Subaru. It's actually a flat character arc for him, where he was really in the right all along; saving lives is what's most important. It's mainly the side characters who get most of the character development in Arc 5. Arc 6, on the other hand, has the most Subaru deaths out of the entire series! It starts out kinda slow. However, halfway through Subaru gets his memories taken by Gluttony, causing him to revert to his arc 1 self!

I feel like Satella is the first Emilia Subaru meets due to some time travel shenanigans. The promise Subaru makes to Satella is the same one he said to Emilia when they first died and I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Emilia also told Subaru her name was Satella which could also be related in some way. Could be something along the lines of Emilia ended up surviving after Subaru died and then ended up wanting to save Subaru and gave him the return by death power.

That theory is kinda too far because Satella literally defeated all the Witches of Sin and at that point in episode 1, those witches already are dead, meaning Emilia wouldn't know what to do besides Emilia is mentally a child at that point in time and would not have known what to properly do if not for her character development in S2.

Came for the re:zero cut font but staying for the informative and well written and voiced scripts in all your backlog up to this point. I originally came here looking for lore expansion on re zero and wound up find a channel where I found myself excited for every release, now I’ve gone through just about every other video on the channel at this point. I find your explanations to be very insightful and entertaining no matter the series. I’ve seen a few other creators doing the same style of content however I find that this is my favorite place to get lore from.

The Gospel Roswaal and Beatrice has are the copies of original book called Tome Of Wisdom! The book Tome Of Wisdom tells the future and the book belongs to Echidna the Witch from past 400 years ago! So it's clear that just like Beatrice, Roswaal too somehow lived 400 years and had connection with Echidna which is why he has the Gospel which is even better than the one Beatrice has! The Witches are dead and the myth of the Witch Of Envy is known to every random person! Even Beatrice has the book that tells the tales of Satella! Every book in the Forbidden Liberary is written by Echidna! And if in any case Emilia would have been Satella than Echidna should have known cause she has the book which tells the future! And when in very first loop when Emilia said she is Satella, in that loop Emilia died before Subaru and Subaru had RBD even then! Emilia died before Subaru, when she entered that old man's house alone and passed sometime Subaru got worried and went inside there he saw blood that startled him and than he saw Emilia's dead body than out of no where Elsa slashed his stomach and before dying he made a vow to already dead Emilia that he will definitely save her somehow and died and RBD activated! If she died before Subaru than there is no way she traveled back in time! And it was Roswaal who was master mind behind the scenes who knew that Subaru will come to save Emilia and he has the power to restart time cause of his book! Roswaal knew even that Subaru can go back in time through his gospel means Satella and Emilia coexist and are two different individuals!

That's what the "Unthinkable Present" was really about. What was "unthinkable" was Subaru having people that genuinely love and care for him - at least according to his psyche. It was incredibly sad to realise - that the present that could never be (according to Emilia's trial) was eclipsed by the present that won't be accepted (which is Subaru's trial all because he saw himself as expendable emotionally). This whole episode/chapters served as tough love for Subaru - where even the witches in their own way wanted to change his mindset. Thank you for this video - for helping to highlight to fellow fans how Subaru really felt. I'm glad to find a KZbinr that thought this way. Lastly, I couldn't help but have a lump in my throat that Subaru was overwhelmed that people genuinely liked him when accosted by Otto and Patrasche in this same episode.

I really loved how this episode (and pretty much the season thus far) as been picking at Subaru's Psyche, both conveying why he thinks the way he does and tearing down where he's wrong. - Subaru not valuing his life and resigning himself to trial and error is pretty logical given his trauma, depression, and growing guilt complex. - Mother's Basement recently posted a great video covering Subaru's mental state, so I think I'll mention that instead of turning this into an essay.

So...just a thought/theory, but...Wouldn't Subaru be the perfect candidate for Envy? His whole life has been the result of wanting something he doesn't have that others do -- more or less the exact definition of Envy -- Subaru is easily most aligned with either Sloth or Envy, and S2 so far has been showing us how perfect a match for that he is... That's where I had another thought. Satella is technically seperate from the Witch of Envy, in terms of persona. But something that came to mind is that both personalities appear to be desperately in love with Subaru, judging from what I've seen. Satella can have her own explanation, but in my mind, the Envy persona doesn't have a particular reason. Or at least, I didn't think it did. The Envy persona was made when Satella absorbed a Witch factor that she wasn't entirely compatible with, so if we think about it that way, then the Witch of Envy is simply the Envy Witch factor incarnate. Why is she also obsessed with Subaru then? According to my little theory, it's because he's a more suitable candidate. The witch factor Itself is attracted to Subaru in a whole different way then just love, but in the mind of something sapient, that emotion resembles most closely an obsessive love, and so it manifests as such. But that's just a theory. And thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Anime only here so purely speculation: But judging from what was cut from Satella's dialogue, it does seem heavily implied to me, that Satella is somehow a "future" version of Emilia, or Emilia is truly a reincarnation of Satella. That, as well as Subaru potentially being reincarnated from the past. Another idea might be that the Satella we see might be from a different "world"/timeline where Subaru more-or-less did everything right and ended up on the "good" path for the entire story, up until the very end where Emilia/Satella was already so powerful that she could grant him his authority - with the first reset point being the beginning of the anime/series. Again, pure speculation, and please don't throw spoilers onto me, cuz I really fucking enjoy the twists this story manages to wedge in, and the way it manages to make the characters largely feel like actual humans and not idolized beings.

Nah... Emilia's past will be revealed in the 2nd half of season 2. SPOILERS She grew up as an outcast even amongst the Elves, raised by her aunt. And talk about a small world cause it turns out she knew Betelgeuse and he was one of the few who wouldn't discriminate against her because of her heritage. However, one day her village was attacked by the leader of the Witch Cult, who had brainwashed Betelgeuse into becoming the Archbishop of Sloth. In the end, her aunt got killed, which drives Betelgeuse insane as he had a thing for her, causing Emilia's dormant magic to awaken and freeze the entire village, turning the inhabitants to be turned into ice sculptures while she herself was frozen in ice until Puck found her and thawed her out.

Honestly I'd just watch the sections now anyway. I don't personally feel like they are much of a spoiler at all, nor have any of the past ones been. He might not specifically say that he mentioned it before as a spoiler, but the information will probably at least be brought up again if it does get covered. If it doesn't though, then the only way for you to know about it will be to go back and rewatch cut content stuff and look for the spoiler sections

I appreciate the spoiler warnings too. Just so you know, they aren't spoilers for the future, they are skipped context from the chapters that were adapted. So they won't spoil a future reveal, they just shed more light around the reveal that just happened. Basically, the only way they could come up in a future episode is if White Fox decided to do a flash back to flesh out the scene or Subaru talked about the encounter in depth with someone else---not likely, close to 0% odds of that happening. The scene's been shown, and they had to cut some of the conversations to save time. The bulk of the conversation was shown in the anime, but there's some nuance that we missed. That's just how AniNews does things. None of his spoilers will spoil anything big. If there was a big spoiler, he would have left it out of the video entirely. But he's super cautious, and I appreciate that he puts such care into his review of the cut content. As for your question of whether or not he would bring it up again if it was shown...probably? He's very thorough. But to my recollection, that has never happened in any of his cut content.

Satella is my favorite character to me its quite obvious that her authority is return by death and that all of the the emotions between them happened in a previous death cycle. and i feel like she is deserving of Suberu's love and in a way he isn't deserving of Setalla's love. I also think he is in love with Emilia because she looks like Setella and his subconscious latched onto that. What i want to know is why Suberu was given the power of death and transported to where Emilia is.

2 years late but you know, time is fickle in the world of Re:Zero. The web and light novels shed more context on Subaru's mindset. Our boy directly gazed into Daphne's eyes, causing to feel intense hunger. For you see, not only did Subaru himself not notice that he was eating his own arm - probably due to his odd resolve at the time - but that lack of notice was enough to creep even Echidna out. Subaru's way of thinking, willingly treating himself as some sort of expendable pawn, was something even the Witches of Sin found disgusting. Most of the Witches aren't opposed to our dear Barasu using his ability of Return By Death, it's the fact that in his most desirable path to save everyone, he doesn't include himself to be saved alongside everyone even once - that's what unnerves the Witches the most (especially Satella, Minerva and Carmilla).
