Oh we are so looking forward to hearing all about your plans for the upcoming trip abroad, you seem very exited about it. Rye is definitely one of those places we want to see next time we are in the UK so thank you so much for taking us on a tour as it may be some time before we get a chance. As for the prices, no, no and again no, that's ridiculous, there are spuds, 🥔, potatoes, when did fish and chips stop being a cheap meal option in the UK. I dread to think how much they want if I wanted my sausage battered? 🧐 Much Love Darren & Alison 🤟♥️

Thanks guys, oh we're very excited but as for plans...now you're scaring us, because as yet, the plan sketch book (if we had one) is bare! Aka we've planned nothing 😬 But we have a stint of work just before, so hopefully we'll use the time to figure things out. Most likely it'll be last minute, make it up as we go 🙈 I think you might still be OK with a battered sausage 😂 But we'll check next time we're in one. Potatoes have risen in price it seems (plus oil etc) which is just another of many factors. You both would fall head over heels for Rye we are certain. And a couple of options to park there even in a motorhome. Much love both of you ❤️ 🤟

Greetings from Gran Canaria Dan and Stephen. Great video and I share your views on the town of Rye. Also I share your stand on profiteering and saying no to try and keep it in the check. Recently I fancied a tin of baked beans. Local shop charging £2.19... suffice to say I didn't purchase them! Take care. Gary. Xx

Haven't had one of those bobble removers for years, great bit of entertainment debobbling. I wouldn't pay that for chips either, taking the mick, a couple of pints was a better investment. I'm glad you tell things as they are as it's Emperor's New Clothes otherwise. We have Fair Trade rainbow plates, weigh a ton but they're so cheerful. Shame you didn't get to my home country 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 ,plenty of time hopefully for another day in the future. Lovely buildings you showed us but I thought the same as Stephen re the responsibility & cost of keeping them in good nick. Thank you for the video, enjoyed as usual & looking forward to seeing you next time.

Thank you for the lovely comments as always 😍🤗 The bobble thing has been great - we didn't show our mattress because it looked horrendous 😂 but the debobbler made it look like new again. We are honest about things, but try to be conscious not to moan too much, it's just our way, we know we're very lucky to see all the things we do, but equally we can't pretend everything is amazing because that's just not realistic 😂 Oh Wales, one day! We did explore Pembrokeshire 2 years ago, but we didn't film it so I feel like that needs to be repeated, plus so much of the rest. It'll happen if and when it's meant to happen 🙏😁 Thank you again x ❤

Thanks guys, we are used to that now for campsites, but they've definitely shot up. For us, if we need one, we will always want the hook up and showers, so these tend to be at the higher end. Sometimes we've used a few cheap no-frills ones though in areas where it's difficult to park which are great for what they are. Yep very handy having the cafe! Hope you've enjoyed your trip, sorry to miss you as we're off to work now for 2 weeks! Safe travels 🥰

The price in chippies now in outrageous. And the amount they pile in is ridiculous too. I'd be happy if they halved the quantity and price. My local chippy is nearly a fiver for a medium portion of chips and what they call a medium portion must surely be a good few bags of spuds worth. I rarely have a chippy tea now unless I'm feeding 5000, in which case one large bag of chips would probably do nicely.
@comealongdear
@comealongdear 4 ай бұрын
I think in future we'll get a large to share instead, some chippies do pile them in but equally we've had others that don't give you much at all for what you're paying. Then the uncertainty over quality, or if they're reheated from yesterday etc. Buying chips is a constant gamble 🤣 But then isn't everything!

What are you two like. In bed all day. Lucky for some hey? Does it say gay at the bottom of dans side of the bed on what looks like the sun visor. (04:41)? Interesting look with the towel on your head I think it’ll catch on. Pmsl Rye looks beautiful so historical. Love these kind of towns so picturesque. Very good editing too. The chips seems a little on the expensive side . Average in the north around £2. That baguette looks good. Very impressive Stephen. I love how knowledgeable you guys are when you visit areas. Always giving us the interesting facts.

Thank you Paul ❤ Haha, lounging around doing nothing is, bizarrely, much rarer than when we lived in a house in our old jobs - back then, we'd be knackered so we'd often spend days off doing very little. It's nice to relive that occasionally in a van. I'm not sure I notice the bit in the video you mean at 4.41, but if it doesn't say that it probably should 🤪 Really pleased you liked the video and editing, thank you 😍 Rye was a stunner for sure and we do enjoy learning the history of these places, so I'm pleased you enjoy the little facts we throw in ❤

Ancient Town appears to be part of the Governments Levelling Up Fund. So far from being considered an affluent area where property prices remain artificially high, you appear to have actually visited a poor area where the exact same property prices still remain artificially high. Upon closer inspection the latter does appear to consider this claim. So perhaps before any purchaser considers a place like this, the only question one should ask oneself is not infact where l live, but how l live? It would certainly make the Estate Agents role a bit more of a hard sell what with steep narrow cobbled streets, houses immediately upon the road, small windows that you would never open, and no parking, just a few of the challenges the Agent may face with me, and l have not even entered a home and banged my head on the enevitable low ceiling yet.😉
@comealongdear
@comealongdear 4 ай бұрын
I would be very surprised if Rye wasn't considered an affluent area, certainly it seems that way, but equally it might be - perhaps due to its relatively isolated position - one that needs more support and a "push" than is perhaps immediately obvious. Very interesting if such tags are part of the levelling up scheme. Another favourite of ours is "Historic Market Town". If we had a pound for every one of those, we'd be rolling in chips 😜 Yes, the practicality of living in those houses might well outweigh the pretty exteriors which, let's face it, is more for the passing eye than someone actually living inside. At 6 foot 1, a low ceiling fills me with horror. At least I can stand up in part of this van 🤪 We often comment that, if you had the money and choice, why would you want to live in a house that opens immediately onto the street - sometimes a main road - especially when said house likely costs as much as one that doesn't. Still, they are pleasing on the eye, and maybe that always wins out when they are almost never made that way now. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍 ❤

Madness even a large chips being a fiver, but especially when you don't know if it's even going to be that large or not! Rye is a must see I reckon, definitely give it a go if you get chance when you're down this way again 😁

It's interesting what you say about the silting up after the ice age because, as I understood, after the trillions of tons of ice over the north of Britain melted, Scotland lifted up and the south of England sank. There are pebble beaches and sea cliffs halfway up hillsides near the coast in the Highlands and the remains of whole ancient forests under the English Channel. Maybe it's nature trying to strike a balance? 🤷‍♂️ And as for beer vs chips, as Coco Chanel didn't quite say, 'beer is a necessity that begins where necessity ends'! 🤘🍻😂
@comealongdear
@comealongdear 4 ай бұрын
I think Coco was right when talking about luxury beer 🍺 😉 I do wonder if I got that bit wrong about the silting up being ice age related but I'm sure that's how I understood it...although, that's quite a long time after the event given how those harbours were in use until a few centuries ago! Maybe its original origins can be loosely traced to the events post-ice age, I'll have to double check now! It does seem like a natural balancing act, everything seems to end up out of the water or under it at some point

£10 for chips seems like high end restaurant prices. Potato as an expensive delicacy 👀 Buy a bag of crisps occasionally, you need to save for that euro holiday we are all going on. The church spending that £4 on the needy?
@comealongdear
@comealongdear 4 ай бұрын
Maybe the church use it to spend it on paying the person who stood there taking our money 😂 Or to raise funds for chips 😉 I really hope we don't come across too moany on the issue, the price of chips is all very first world problems isn't it, but you can't help but compare and contrast when you travel around and also note the rapidly rising prices, but we know that's everywhere and affects everyone. Frankly we're lucky we can do and see what we can. Wait, I'm justifying ourselves again, Stephen will be telling me off now 😂🙈

I have just discovered fertiliser has doubled in price ( a world shortage) and fuel for the farmers is adding to 50% rise in the cost of the humble spud!
@comealongdear
@comealongdear 4 ай бұрын
We have since learned that due to the insane amounts of rain we've had over the last 18 months (it pretty much rained all last summer except one hot period in June, and has been a very wet winter) that it's affected potato supply, so of course = rising prices. Not the only thing of course, so many of our crops are ruined with farmland flooded (including compensation for farmers only if they are within a certain radius of a main river - if your land is waterlogged but you're not near a river, they're not eligible?! 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️) Add in all the other factors going on and we seem to have the perfect storm for prices multiplying. I think though if we're really desperate for a bag of chips, we'll just give in 🤪😂
