there used to be an amazing Totem Pole outside of this Garden Center. Any of us who grew up on the Wilts Somerset border will recognize it. Creepiest thing is the cross roads it is on is known as Dead Maids. Not sure why or what happened there many years ago.

any idea when it closed down? what was it called?
@pauloliver78532 жыл бұрын
@@bigmatt2896 things went a bit pear shaped in 2017. There was a dispute with the local electricity company over a power cut that led to Chapmanslade and its environs being blacked out. The owner got a bit uppity and was arrested for breach of the peace. You can google the story. The Garden Center was called Row Farm. Not giving away any secrets as you can clearly see the sign in bearded explorers video.

A fascinating video there .They don’t come much better than this. It always amazes me that the power is still connected in some of these abandoned buildings, especially with the rocketing cost of energy today! You have brought us yet another great explore Colin.The Massey Ferguson 35 brought back memories. We had one in my first workplace. I drove it once. That is a classic tractor now and collectible. It was sad to see the state of the Sherpa pick up truck. These are mega rare now. The Massey Ferguson 165 is definitely worth saving, as is the 35. These are hardly old tractors. I bet that the Diesel engines on them could be started fairly easily. Yeah, they don’t make them like that anymore.

What a lovely little cottage that would have been in its glory. That tractor is gorgeous, I really hope that someone can restore it and let it have another life. How sad it’s so dilapidated, and the floors have come down. It was scary watching you climb those stairs and walk around in those bedrooms. Lovely find this one, I can imagine he’d been old school walking around with a flat cap, and some overalls, and a pipe maybe. I wonder what happened for this to be left? Thank you awesome find. Thank you 😊

the machine on the back of the Massey Ferguson 35 was a crop sprayer and quite a rare one too! although the 35 seems to have not moved in a long time, the 165 in the yard isn't there on google earth so I wonder if it has recently been towed out of the workshop next to the Granada, all the other vehicles seem to have been abandoned long before the nursery itself was because I've gone back to 2001 on google earth and you can see them all parked up. also the machine in the workshop is a Howard Gem rotovator which would be used to cultivate vegetable plots, there was another one the same in the first shed with the bamboo you looked in

Bearded Explorer, I know you’d probably not be that interested but know that there is a company in the UK that encourages ppl to refer UK abandoned properties to them. Because they try, often successfully to locate the owner try and buy the abandoned property off them. They seem to be a London based company. Called YouSpotProperty. If you supply an address and pic for them of a property anywhere in the UK, they offer either a voucher and/or if they manage to buy and re-sell the property they will often agree to pay the person who alerted them to the abandoned property 1% of the sale price (if they re-sell it) with a limit at £10,000 I think. They know there’s 1000’s of abandoned properties in the UK. But where are they? That’s the problem. Also, Often local councils do not even know about local abandoned properties. But it’s definitely also a very good idea to alert Council of an abandoned property you know too. Becos they will often buy it and renovate it, or at least try and rescue the house.

As a keen gardener this makes me a bit sad. Cause even in Australia independent small family run nurseries like this were common. But they were all forced into closure due to the new competition of huge multinational companies like Bunnings starting up in the mid 90’s. people stopped going to small family run nurseries. Globalisation put an end to them. And the computer age happened at this time too, and older private nursery owners struggled to learn to do business this way. Shame, because the older horticultural ppl were always the most knowledgeable. And most experienced. Great video!
