In a way it's nothing, think in comparison about the dreadful, deadly crashes they were involved in (esp. the 747-100 and -200 that weren't very safe compared to the -400s and nowadays -800s) until around 1996.
@coconutpalm16312 жыл бұрын
Areat deal of 747 fatal crashes were due to pilot error or shoddy maintenance. For example, JAL 123 was due to bad maintenance while the Tenerife Airport Disaster was largely pilot error (weather and communication breakdown too). There are many other examples like this: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747_hull_losses The 747 brought about a huge increase in passenger jet transporation which at the time was relatively new so there were a lot of safety issues that we didn't know about before these crashes. I would say that the 747 just got 'caught up' in these statistics and if it were to have been another plane that democratized air travel instead of the 747, then similar crashes would have happened anyway.

The reason why some A380s are already being retired is because they are just not economical enough for some of today’s airlines. It has nothing to do with the airframes or flying hours.... because the retired A380s still had many decades of live left in them. They just aren’t efficient enough, and they are also too large for many airports. This of course decreases versatility, and the amount of routes that the aircraft can execute.

Great video. Miss the Thai Airways interior. The only corrections is that the Braniff SP had galleys like the classic 747s.

Thai airways passenger seats are so comfortable especially the foldable side headrests. Just wondering how much are they to be sold from the airplane graveyard.

I wish i was there. In full captain uniform, making airplane noises while sitting on the captain's chair.

Ive flown on this one too, must have done on account of 25 return flights on Thai 747s 400s, mostly in economy but a few upgrades to business class upstairs. Thai was always my favourite airline between Australia and the UK. The seat pitch in economy was 34''. I did the BKK to Phuket in that odd business class alongside the long galley.

Thanks Sam for this. I knew of the 'boneyard' in Mojave; passed by it many times for my former work. However, I was unaware of the one in Victorville, Wow! Such a sad end to these iconic multi-million dollar aircraft. But, at least some of the parts are being recycled.
