@alexhri3 жыл бұрын
I've thought a bout that a lot of times and here's my take on Hartley: He is an insanely talanted driver. Just the fact that he managed to win a Le Mans 24 puts him in a category of his own. Perhaps a contraversial opinion but I do think that endurance races are a lot more demanding than F1 and by a large margin for several reasons: One is purely the amount of time you spend at 300+ km/h and LMP1(the category in which Hartley compeated) is not that far off in terms of speed compared to an F1 car. On top of that you share the same track with cars which are considerably slower than you. Yes, he drove for Porsche which historically has has conquered the endurance racing world in pretty much all categories but let's not forget that it was Porsche who picked Hartley along with names such as Bernhard, Webber and Hulkenberg. Hartley's problem in F1 was Red Bull/Torro Roso. Both teams have the same issue: They have a number one driver and another driver, meaning they give 100% of their effort to work with their number one, whereas the other is in a "stand there and sit pretty" position. I'm willing to bet he would have done much better in any other team.

Ok Ima be real. In F1 terms, Hartley wasn't very good. Watching him in the races was.. yeeaah. Yes red bull is a problem. But neither that or the bad luck wasn't going to change much. And to be honest its expected for an F1 driver in a dominant car to breeze Le Mans against a grid full of drivers from lower leagues, unless they face reliability/mechanical problems. I mean Kazuki Nakajima won 3 in the Toyota. No hate but I can't pretend. He simply wasn't good enough for F1.

Alonso steps out of the mclaren after so many struggles, wins le man's, and then almost wins indy 500 before engine issues. How unlucky Hartley was? He was signed to drive for Chip Ganassi Racing at IndyCar for 2018 before Toro Rosso called him and for whatever reason he got, he chose forfeit it for the latter instead. How bad sacrificing contract to race a top level american team for a junior b-spec team could be? Hartley was outpaced by Gasly and Booted after only a season while Ganassi took 2 indycar championship with Scott Dixon at 2018 and 2020, and in 2021 still one of the championship contender with 3 of 4 of it's driver are on top 10 of the standings, and one of them (Alex Palou, driving the car that was supposedly Hartley drive at 2018) leading the championship...

So relatively unknown fact in the F1 world maybe, but Brendon Hartley was tapped on the shoulder by top IndyCar owner Chip Ganassi to drive the #10 for 2018. But at the 11th hour, the opportunity to drive full-time in F1 with Toro Rosso came in. And we know how that went. Ganassi instyead went with Felix Rosenqvist, who left the seat a few years later. However... The #10 in IndyCar just won the 2021 Championship with Alex Palou at the helm. Could Hartley have brought that car success earlier? Could it be he instead of Palou as an IndyCar Champion. Gotta love those butterfly effects and alternate timelines in the motorsports world.

I have almost thought Hartley and Palmer to be partly unlucky but have never been able identify them between unlucky or bad

I had no idea he actually got a taste of F1 equipment far earlier then 2017 (Even driving the Mercedes). Also, props for remembering Jaime's Music career (His debut song is still slaps BTW) Maybe Hartley is yet another case of someone who was more of a Sports car driver then F1 (which makes it criminal that as far as I'm aware, nobody has picked up up for a LMH or LMDH seat). Also if I'm honest: That dude's hair was Majestic. Its on the same level of swag as Mike Thackwell and James Hunt.

Ever considered doing a video about New Zealand's might impressive looking Superstock racing? I mean, they're single seaters, so there's some sort of relevance there right? I know I'd find it interesting to know more about one of New Zealand's most popular forms of motorsport!

Things i noticed: that bright blue torro rosso is soooo good looking. Gasly is legit. I think he’s got a long career in f1 especially after his performance this year.

I feel like this video proves two things: 1) Hartley was and is a baller in sportscar racing, and 2) Helmut Marko and RBR are amazing career destroyers. You hire a Le Mans winner and then decide you want him gone after FIVE RACES? Then promote his teammate to the senior RBR team, then demote HIM after half a season, rush up a replacement too quickly, then demote HIM out of F1 altogether after just one season? Jeez. Happy that Hartley was able to land back on his feet in sportscar racing, where he knows he'll always be a proven commodity. And he's still only 31 despite feeling like he's been around forever. Almost feels like him just getting to race in F1 was a big achievement for him, and something he'll cherish forever. Just being able to say 'F1 driver' on his resume is enough to be proud of. And let's be honest, he got to drive possibly the sexiest looking Toro Rosso racecars of all time. Who's the real winner here?

Video Ideas:1 Could F1 race at le mans 2 Could F1 return to Indianapolis road course/will F1

For Le Mans the cars could compete but I don't know how well they would do because F1 cars wouldn't be able to last the full 24 hours if they were going flat out as they cover nearly half the F1 race distance for the season, so their engines would probably be destroyed if they ran at full race pace so would need to reduce power so the prototypes might be quicker over a race stint. The cars would also need headlights as you need them one full the whole race even during day. And they need to be closed cockpit cars and have enough aera for 2 seats in the cockpit. The F1 cars would need to change tyres more, if we are going off F1 tyres not Le Mans tyres, but wouldn't have to refuel as much as they have bigger fuel tanks.

30 seconds for screwing up the formation like Norris did this year, ten seconds for sending another driver to the hospital while not even attempting to use all the space available to you.
