I don't know if she's quite dead as I feel like parts of the story seem to suggest that the developer somehow found a way to either keep her alive or bring her back, and it may have something to do with his "suicide". However, it may have been better for her to have stayed dead.

I come back to this video every now and then, even though the ARG has been "solved". I still think this is a masterclass example on how to do an ARG. Everything is SO neatly done, the setup, Adam's video, making other unknown lets play channels with Crow gameplay; everything feels natural and is set up so beautifully. Wish we can get more ARGs of this caliber and quality instead of generic trying too hard to be creepy ones.

I really believed it until he starts "playing" it, he just walked straight to the point, ANY player would be exploring all the sorrounding areas or controls before continuing playing if it really were a n64 lost game that nobody played before, then going forward looked more like an animation than a game, great backstory tho, the beggining is totally believeable, great work!

You know what seals the deal for me? The modernized video editing. For example, when he is about to curse, he censors it to avoid being demonitized. Another thing, is the music. The music used parodies game channels, such as: SpaceHamster, PeanutButterGamer, and more. But one gripe I have, is that the voice audio in the gameplay portion is just a bit too quiet. I didn't wanna turn it up in fear for a jumpscare, but I had to turn it up after I saw the video just to hear his voice in the beginning. Other than that, I am completely immersed.

The crow must be the son/daughter of the developer visiting the offices of their father and seeing it from a child's perspective. They see their father working but are told to go away in words they didn't understand. Later on they pass away from some unknown illness/accident (the broken wing?). Distraught the father turns away from the world and tries to construct a play ground for their child, as seen in the games recreation of their child's bedroom as a giant level. Eventually the father to commits suicide in aungish, throwing themselves to the bottom of the sea. .. This was insanely well done from the game itself, to the edits of Space World to the cartridge with the ripped label I have to give you credit for faking N64 magazine right down to the font, layout and even the writing style too. It's perfect. Like many people I remember every page of that magazine, including the games that were never released because I spent so much time staring at the screenshots. This is really fantastic work. I loved how well the game was paced out and its final punch was quite effective in its strangeness :)

Just to add to your theory, I think the daughter (the one who did the original drawing of Catastrophe Crow) died from some sort of brain-related illness/condition. At 11:06 right as the player steps on the staircase, we see all of the textures replaced with a CT scan of a brain.

People have been wondering what the whole lore of Catastrophe Crow is. I’ll give a short summary to who doesn’t know. Catastrophe Crow is a game that basically represents the death of the Lorrenz family. You play as a crow with a wounded wing. This playable character represents Thea. She went to visit her dad at his work place. As you enter the first computer level, you enter a toy level. In that level, there is a floating boat. The boat has no relevance until the second portion of the game. When you reach the end of the toy level, you can see Father Crow typing on a computer, with pons surrounding him. Talking to the crow will send you back to the hub. This part of the game tells us that the father of Thea told her to go back home. As you’re back in the hub, you return to the work place. This time when you go to the computer, a phone rings. You can’t interact with the phone however. Walking back to the computer shows father crow walking into work cabinets. You can clip through the wall where there’s a missing cabinet. There is a boat there with father crow on it. He jumps off the boat holding computer equipment and drowns. Following him will also make you drown, and bring you to the forest level. This part is REALLY important, and tells us how the father could’ve saved Thea’s life. This next level has a really bizarre backstory, but we’re not getting into that. Venturing through the forest, you can find a grave with father crow next to it. The gravestone looks a lot like the game cartridge. You can’t go in the grave, but you can interact with the crow. The crow’s text box is empty, however. Your camera then shifts to a top-view. A phone will ring when you get close to the sound. The sound lures you to a staircase. If you walk into it, your character falls off the stairs and has a spaz-attack. Two really large and horrid beings charge towards Thea. Not much I can say about this part, but this is possibly how Thea died. Before moving onto the dead crow in the end of the game, let’s talk about Thea’s death. She died by falling off the stairs. Stupid right? It really isn’t. Thea must’ve wanted to fly like a bird, but tripped and ended up having a broken arm, and damaged body parts. Like I said in the beginning, the crow we play as is Thea, Father crow is, well, the father. The dead crow in the end of the game gets dragged away by the same creatures we saw in the forest. Water filled up the room because it’s telling us the Father threw Thea’s body in the water, dragged away, never to be seen again. The game crashes after this.

I think the crow jumping off of the boat was symbolic of the developer killing himself in real life. Remember how when the story was being told it was said that the Developer’s boat was found in the water of the coast of a shore. I believe the Developer has taken his boat out, and had drowned himself, abandoning his family and work. The next level is in a forest and it shows another crow crying at a grave. This I believe is his wife finding out he died.

@@ariel78_ maybe. It’s possible that maybe the Developer became self aware when working on the game and decided to put all of this into the game before finally ending it all and drowning himself.
