DeJean tape is almost exclusively Cover 3 zone, so that IMO is the biggest reason why he's mocked at Safety. If he was playing press man, or even off-ball, his whole college career he'd be MUCH more likely (if not guaranteed) to be drafted at CB. But even still, I think he'll play corner in the slot.

It's like the black quarterback thing in the past. White guys coming up have become more athletic which is required to be a cornerback.
@BadWolveАй бұрын
Its no even close to the same.... black QB's in the past just werent' given the chances, it wasn't they couldn't play... White DB's there just isn't enough that have been good enough to play. White DB's haven't been playing because of things in their own control... Black QB's lack of play is attributed mostly to other people and systems they worked in and with not allowing them... two completely different things
@mattviti944 ай бұрын
Discrimination against white guys at DB positions in college football recruiting process is real, the NFL non existence of white corners is just a consequence! The only white guys that got recruited from a Power 5 team and received starting roles (Riley Moss and Cooper Dejean, two local guys from Iowa, the college that recruited them) turned out to be elite cornerbacks and got drafted by the NFL. Also, the last white corner who got fairly recruited out of high school (Ethan Bonner from Stanford, Texas native) had some playing time for the Dolphins last season. This year another white corner might have some chances: Jayden Price from FCS powerhouse North Dakota State (Kansas native), played for 5 years and excelled as a returner; was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Falcons and maybe will play as a specialist on Sundays. The fact is that white guys can play corner and can excel at the position: they're proving this anytime they're given the chance; but discrimination is real and college coaches see color very well when we're talking about defensive backs (or running backs).
@mattviti944 ай бұрын
More food for thoughts: apparently biology is stopping white guys to play corner but they’re natural at slot receiver (Edelman, Kupp) or even on the outside (Jordy Nelson). Also, apparently biology is precisely preventing fully white caucasian corners from playing corner or db because biracial players (Elijah Molden, Benjamin St. Juste and many safeties) or even 1/4 black players have no problem at all.

If you look at every defensive position on the field say since 2000 there have been white players of Pro Bowl to HOF caliber at every position except corner. The idea that you can find white players at that level of performance but not have even one crappy bottom of the roster white corner is ridiculous. It's the same situation that existed with the lack of black QB's. It wasn't that there were no black starters like a Starr or Staubach but that there were no black backups. Seriously there wasn't one black dude somewhere to be 3rd string? Of course there was but the NFL wasn't interested just like they're not interested now (and also not especially interested in white RB's either). It's a shameful state of affairs for a league that is supposedly so socially conscious, yet they will continue to get away with it until the media starts to ask questions.(don't hold your breath)

Worse yet, your to blame if that happens. Everyone who's played that position (Corner or safety) got burned badly at least once, from Pop Warner to Deion Sanders and Rondae Barber. I played a little corner in high school, some WR, but I was always viewed as a safety. I was never ever going to make the NFL at any position, but I did play D2 as a safety for a couple years. Prime Time is why they get paid like this. He shined a light on how important this position is for defense. They were getting shit money before then. You would think Gronk would have raised the cap for tight ends. When he was renegotiating his contract with the Pats, he was trying to get listed as a receiver because TEs don't get paid as much. He eventually signed for good TE money but average WR money. He would have been able to raise the cap if he played for anyone other than the Patriots.
