You could always go the Xeon route. Hard to beat a Xeon when you are on a budget. Just like a quad core Xeon. The Xeons socket 1150 can be kind of expensive. IDK just look around on ebay @ xeons, Find a good one and get a motherboard to fit your CPU. Not CPU to fit your motherboard.

The HD3870 with GDDR4 was meaningful. The HD3870 compared well with Nvidia's 8800GT which sold for a considerable amount more money. The HD2900XT was a flop and the HD3870 made up for it with price to performance.

When GDDR4 came out, GDDR3 maxed out at 1800MHz, but GDDR4 delivered 2000, that's more than 10% bandwidth, substantial enough I would say! Later GDDR3 maxed out at 2000, GDDR4 at 2400, that's a 20% bandwidth boost. Definitely substantial in the world of graphics, where every GB bandwidth counts! Where GDDR3 cards hit a wall at 60GB/s, GDDR4 went beyond 70. A huge leap back then!
@virtualtools_30212 жыл бұрын
hell you mean it hit a wall at 60GB/s my quadro FX 5800 (oc'd) gets 140GB/s on GDDR3 (And 4GB of it, not 1 or 2 gb like the gtx 285!)

GDDR4 was effectively a faster version of GDDR3 when all is considered. GDDR5 actually doubled the bandwidth (or you could say quadrupled when considering the "DDR" moniker) compared to GDDR3 per pin. GDDR4 was a logical dead end compared to what was necessary for moving forward, hence the fast rise and long life of GDDR5 that has enjoyed absolute ubiquity since 2009 (though it debuted in 2008).
