Today we're taking a look at the career of Gino Iannucci, the most requested skater for this series. I didn't have much of an appreciation for his skating until doing this. But I had a lot of fun and I learned a lot while working on this one. Enjoy!

If you saw most of these spots in person, you would realize how rough and hard to skate they are. The bank to ledge at Stoney Brook is especially gnarly, and a switch noseslide like that is Insane. That Yeah Right part is epic, and if you didn’t start skating in ‘02, and came up skating in the 90’s, you would truly appreciate how gnarly guys like him and Penny were. The soccer jersey is a jersey from the team Inter Milan, Gino’s father is a first generation Immigrant

It's weird you didn't talk about his time with Nike, he really helped to push Nike SB forward to make it as successful as it is today. He is one of the first four skaters to have a signature model Nike shoe.
@snowjerkface
@snowjerkface 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed! He had a ton of Nike ads when they came back with the dunk for SB. I remember a flash Nike web site with a gino puppet you could move the arms around and it would be all goofy. He rocked Nikes way before they broke into the skate market. Its weird but he really is the face of nike sb for me more than anyone else that rides or did ride for them.

"I don't know why people expect so much" idk maybe its because your're a PROFESSIONAL skater with multiple big name sponsors and a legacy that people care about? In what normal career can you have multiple DWI's, extensive legal trouble, substance abuse issues, and still have people begging you to come back to work? Dude should be grateful, people love him and his style (myself included).

I'll add my 2 cents about why I like Gino's skating. I started in 1992, and I enjoyed the "aesthetic" side of skating....the outfits certain skaters wore, the spots they chose, and the way they looked doing tricks appealed to me more than the magnitude of the trick or the number of stairs they jumped down. To me, Mark Gonzales, Jason Lee, Marc Johnson, Tom Penny, and Gino exemplified this aspect of skating.

Gino's been my favorite skater since I discovered him in the 20 shot sequence days. For me his magic is of course in his style, and the fact that he does relatively 'simple' tricks, but does them superbly at high speed. As a kid that really motivated me: it felt as if I could do some of that stuff! I can see myself do a line with a half-cab noseslide, a backside powerslide and a switch noseslide 270, but I can't even imagine doing a frontside flip down a 15 stair. This made his skating tangible instead of some (be it super impressive) alien thing. Do this day I want to go out and skate whenever I see Gino footage!

Roslyn banks was my hometown spot. One thing that’s not obvious about those banks is how shitty the ground is and how there are large bumps in the curb landing. I remember seeing the Chocolate team when I was a teenager, they were filming for the Chocolate Tour. It was the first time I had ever seen pro skaters. Stevie Williams was there, Keenan. I watched Gino try to do a couple of tricks on the first bank, he would miss, and then do an effortless kickflip over the second bank first try. An incredible skater with effortless style in an area that was not heavy with a lot of skateboarders at the time.

Please make something about Anthony Pappalardo. His story ties in great with your view on the troubles of being pro as far as what happens after skating and the risk of being dropped off your sponsors. Cameron Others I actually left a comment saying I used to think the same things. I think it’s because we’re the same age. My first exposure to Tom Penny was from sorry and I first saw Gino in Yeah right. Tbh they weren’t outstanding parts and I had always read about how these guys were legends in magazines. It didn’t make sense. I get it now after I learned their history, but as a kid I thought they were overhyped. @@mrburns805 i get that. the tom penny stuff in sorry wasn't all amazing. there were a few cool clips in there but definitely not his best. Gino's part was one of my favorites but i'm older than you guys and my concept of style had already been well developed for years by the time yeah right came out. I was way hyped on Koston and a few other parts at that time but i liked Gino's spots and trick selection with his style. Kinda like how people hated on pappalrdo's part in fully flared but that was my favorite part in the video because it was different and the song was sick, and the spots were out in the streets and raw looking. I like all kinds of skating . i just tend to lean more towards different looking things opposed to the standard stuff. I also grew up running into a lot of really talented skaters at spots. So my take was everyone is good but who looks cool doing it. Really its all subjective though. Came up in an era of skating that was a whole lot rougher and harsh so certain things bother me a lil bit but nothing too serious, definitely didn't come here to hate just wanted to clear somethings up. The rumor he's talking about might be about hooking up with Justin Pierce's wife (what allegedly led to his "unintentional suicide"). The timeline all lines up, but I have no idea if that's just gossip. Even though that would have been shitty of him, it wouldn't mean he was responsible for Justin's dramatic behavior. If they were all partying at the time, those are the kind of things that happen.

I think what Rad Rat is missing in his worldview of skating is this - style is the most important. Gino is maybe smoothest skater all time, at least top 5. A trick with a lower difficulty nailed at a good speed with smooth style almost always trumps a crazy tech trick done sloppily. Rad Rat must skate faster!

NOBODY WENT ON THE CHOCOLATE TOUR !! Including Gino Ianucci. ask him. Lol that is just the title of a video. " Chocolate tour has acting scenes due to Spike Jones that the skaters were forced to film . F Y I : It was Eric Koston pretending to be Charlie Chaplin in "Mouse" video incase you thought it was really Chaplin. The cop in chocolate tour is Tony Ferguson and the orderly is played by Mark Gonzalez. It's a sk8 movie . Not an actually coast to coast skate tour, so nobody went on the chocolate tour as it was not a tour . Lol.. anyways love the channel and not being negative ... Props for talking about Gino either way.
