Menikimati was my first skate video. I remember Creager's part blowing my mind. I think that switch ollie over the hydrant had more of an impact on me than anything else in that video. I'm pretty sure that's the exact moment when I became a skater, instead of just wanting to be a skater, or considering it.
@ronniecreager6 жыл бұрын
Very happy to hear your a skateboarder, let's go shred sometime. That school was called Centralia and in Buena Park, CA next to Knotts Berry Farm. I wish it was still there.

Whoa! Ha, thanks dude. I live in New Mexico. I do still skate, but not as much as I'd like to. I mostly bomb hills nowadays. I can still throw and impossible here and there, some basic stuff. I'm not a chick, btw, I just made account name to weird out conspiracy theorists. But yeah, I still watch your part and Tom Penny's part on that video. It's all about that switch ollie over the hydrant, man!
@CrystalVortex6 жыл бұрын
Oh man that opening line is so great, not many people were doing nollie tres back then and I don't recall anybody doing them that clean (in a line nonetheless)
@morgellon94496 жыл бұрын
For sure. I didn't mean for it to sound like that switch ollie was his best trick in that video. He was probably like, "seriously?" It was something I could relate to and understand at that stage in my skating, though; I think the majority of that video went over my head at the time. I don't even think I owned a skateboard when I bought the video, which is weird; I had given mine to a friend for his birthday. I didn't really feel it until I saw Creager's part, I guess. When I first started actually skating, I'd be doing ollies and picturing that hydrant ollie from his part in my head. Yeah, he's got a great style, and he does some trippy stuff on a skateboard. One of my favorites.

Just like Creager is super underrated, your videos are likewise underrated. Hopefully the both of you get the respect you deserve one day. Also as a quick note, I actually found an original VHS copy of a Foundation video called Barbarians at the Gate with Josh Beagle and Ronnie. Great video! Have been a fan of Ronnie's since the Foundation days. Had a lot of his Blind decks too. Started skating again two years ago and bought the Etcetera insoles almost immediately. They are a heaven-sent for flat-footed skaters like me. Was fortunate enough to be able to get one of the High School Dropout decks through our local shop, Funhouse, here in Kitchener, ON, Canada. It had a nearly symmetrical nose and tail, mellow concave, and lasted for almost four months of continuous skating without losing its pop. Highly recommended. Hope Ronnie can grow and expand his brand. Support a fellow skater!

Bummer to hear the industry hasn't showed him the love it could have, but life after skateboarding is a tough one for everyone. I mean, I've never worked, nor aspired to work, in 'da industry' but it's probably like any business/organisation: everyone is all smiles and bro hugs at the company bbq, but under the surface there's always the social competition game. Sadly, hoping for owners or management to show you much love beyond what they're contractually required to is like hoping for the proverbial shit from a rocking horse. Once again proven that the skateboarding industry is shit. I've read several interviews, some of my favorites like Nate Jones explaining why they rather retire from skateboarding because of how someone or the industry tells you how you should be skating and what you should do. As ironic as it is, it's complete opposite of what's been said by everyone about skateboarding and the reason and the purpose why we skate. A contradiction of what skateboarding culture is about. Ronnie had it all, speed, smoothness, high pop, hard technical tricks and a huge bag of them, amazing style on top of that, but the industry didn't value that enough it seems to. That is indeed sad. And I have to be honest, I've missed a lot of his footage and I guess marketing could be the one to blame. Revisiting his footage and old parts now, it seems he should have been on Penny-like status.

Etcetera ankle stabilizers are really good, i bought three pairs in the last five years and it's the only thing who prevent ruined ankles (like mine, at 40+) to roll, that is because of straps which actually are not elastic as the vast majority of ankle stabilizers. In fact this phisically avoids your ankle to roll because the straps actually block the sprain to a certain degree. Go try it on their site, you won't be disappointed.
@ronniecreager6 жыл бұрын
I wear them all the time. Ankle injuries suck. Take care of your feet and strengthen them. Don't become dependent on a stabilizer.
@MrNickrandi6 жыл бұрын
I broke my left ankle three times and now that i'm going 43 i can't help but wear them; should have taken care of myself when i was younger but i had the stupid habit of keeping going even after injuries, not taking the right time to heal and do rehab, so now i'm paying it all. Now i have calcification between my tibia and fibula, at the bottom of my leg near the ankle region. Your advice (and mine too) is good for kids, guys take care of your bodies and take the right time to heal from injuries, if you skate through a rolled ankle or a knee injury you're only going to make it worse and eventually you'll have to stop longer!

Hot take but I hate the close up fish eye clips, it distorts the video and makes it hard to see how big gaps, stairs, and rails are. Also most filmers were using really bad peephole lenses which made that problem 10x worse.

Ronnie has always been a favourite of mine. Would love to see one last video part. Daewon should put him on Thank You so he can have a part in their video. Ronnie vs Daewon.

Blind what if is one of my favourite skate videos. Creager was such a beast in that one!

As much as I love Ronnie's skating there has to be something wrong with him when every company casts him out. Sad but can't deny it.

The other problem with organized sports is that if you make a mistake, you bring everyone down with you. In addition to skateboarding, I have enjoyed individual sports like ping pong and racquetball because if you lose, it all rests on your shoulders and you don't have to sweat it. Even with basketball, I like to play Hunch and with baseball play Pepper. Skateboarding is really catching on. You see a recreation departments build a new skatepark and it is being used all the time while it sits next to an empty baseball field. Recreation departments are seeing it is a better use of money for the youth in the community. Kids want to hang out and have fun and not get yelled at and receive aggressive lectures on what they should have done differently. You don't have to run laps if you miss your trick.

Bro. I'm from Lansing. Been watching your stuff for a couple years now and never realized you were from up here. I know that skate park in Romeo lol

That makes me sick Blind did him so dirty. Creager and Craig were the faces of Blind for the longest time. The world umbrella as a whole has kinda been a joke to some of their legends.

If riding switch is easier then he was riding his board the wrong way the whole time. Its normal for one or maybe two tricks to feel a little better switch (for me switch backside flips work better than regular) but if most tricks feel better switch its time to *switch* up your stance.

could you make a video tutorial on the merlin twist? Learning it is a goal of mine but I'm not that good and currently with a rolled ankle, so I'm watching videos about frontfoot impossibles to get ready to learn it.

I had his Blind board that had the Trixx rabbit with his feet cut off.

I'm surprised he hasn't been able to get involved with the new generation as a manager or something. He's certainly got the resume.

That really sucks that Blind did that to him. He was the main reason why I bought their decks.

06:10 get this message over to Asia. way too many think skateboarding is a competitive sport. especially if the tricks done by someone of a perceived "higher status" ethnicity :(
