What Happened to Jackson Galaxy’s Cat Toys?

10:00 speaking of staying sharp and doing your research, be aware that the name brand cat toys you buy on third party Amazon sites might actually be fakes. I recently bought a specific type of catnip toy that arrived strangely smaller and less dense than it "used to be." I only later noticed the logo was different. I guess not even cat toys are safe from counterfeiters.

Exactly this! Great point! There’s a lot of copy cat / white labelling going on, especially on market places. Searching for ‘Silvervine chew sticks’ on Amazon throws up some interesting brand names! P.s. thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on the video! 😻😸

I can't speak for the quality of those toys specifically, but I do know that it's a hard market to have higher quality pet toys when amazon will sell 20 knock-offs and 5 death traps with the same description. And most consumers either don't know or don't care about the difference. (This is just anecdotal from working in pet care for 10 years)

This is an extremely under rated comment! And something I’ve mentioned this in a couple of our other videos now (top 10 worst cat toys). Interestingly over on instagram, a lot of money is being spent on marketing these (white / private labelled) toys just at a high price point likely due to marketing costs (Turbo Tail 2.0, >£20 vs. Amazon @£8-10). Assuming they’re making sales given the sustained marketing push, I suspect there’s a market for premium options, it’s just difficult / risky / small?! Hopefully over time more will think carefully about what they buy! Thank you for taking the time to watch / comment, your views/point is generally really interesting. 😻😻

JG has his own store on Amazon but he probably reboxes the knock offs with his brand, his toys are simply available and you can buy them from a wholesaler and just put them in a box you trademark its really simple if he sat down and designed a toy I have my doubts.

@Pepperprojectz JG is not designing the toy he is simply choosing what he considers an available product he attempts to convince his following are in his opinion safe and puts it in a box with his brand and bam suddenly you have a safe toy from JG...nah he didn't design any of them he and if he did he likely hired a Fivvr Freelancer to draw one so he could claim he designed it. I honestly don't like him and its related to his show I lost respect for him after I watched him stress cats to incite a behavior for a show, just an egotist that everyone believes what he says...I'm not saying he hasn't done good things for rescue or shelter animals but it appears that is his way of claiming his fame.

In 2020-2021, I worked at Petsmart and Jackson galaxy toys were still sold but often on clearance. I still see a few dif ones at my local Big Lots. & 6:00 I got this exact wand toy and it broke in like 15 mins and was fine for $6 on clearance.

As you said, and based on what we’ve tested, the value proposition doesn’t seem to make sense. Maybe this is what has caused them to disappear? "today, they’re nowhere to be found." almost as if their contractually agreed partnership came to an end and since then he's released his own line of toys like the Gotcha Cat Wand etc. This isn't some great mystery, it's just business.

Great point! But it makes me wonder-why did the partnership end in the first place? What led them to decide not to renew it? As I mentioned in the video, the pet market has grown so much since 2014, and with Jackson rebranding the toys, it seems like they had some level of success. Plus, given the sizeable marketing push they did at the start, the change in direction feels surprising. You’d think there would have been some kind of update explaining the shift, especially when we reached out to them (Petmate). BTW, appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment on the video, it helps the channel and is great to get different views on things. :)

@@Pepperprojectz the only assumption I can make -> assuming the toys were successful, Jackson was probably not getting a large enough % to be happy to continue their contract or renewal terms weren't to either party's liking and they parted ways. I'm not sure when Jackson's popularity on KZbin exploded but I'm sure he quickly realised he could make more money marketing the toys himself.

Yeah, 100%. It's great they experimented with these. I think a few extra rounds of QA would have left us with some awesome toys, like the tunnel. Appreciate you took the time to watch and comment on the video. It makes a big difference and really helps channels like ours.

We’ve used Feliway infusers before but it’s hard to know whether our cat’s reaction was placebo or a real effect and whether his oils have a similar impact. I am not a big fan of Jackson Galaxy. I didn't even knew he made toys. These all seem pretty cheap and basic compared to other toys.

Yeah unfortunately 2 of the 3 are not worth point they’re currently sold at although to be fair, the tunnel seems pretty well priced. Saying that I noticed the tunnel is now out of stock? Toys and products aside, Jackson has done a huge amount for cats and their owners over the years. I suspect 1,000s if not more cats lives have been positively impacted by him either directly or indirectly.

I found some of your complaints irrelevant (I'm not even a fan of JG) but I'll say that I wish I had seen the modular tunnel system before when they were available. I have a few different tunnels and pop up tents that I wind up using clothespins to put together so it's fantastic that he thought to put together a line that zipped together. They do take up a lot of space (physically and visually), but I feel like after a couple of weeks, it's actually good to put it away and then have a break because it makes it exciting again when it comes out. I'm surprised that JG didn't put out a really beautiful line of wall shelves (with lots of variety in the pieces, but all coordinating) for "catification" since that's a big part of his show and there's always room for new styles and brands of that because they need to be something attractive if people are going to mount them on the wall for the long term.

I appreciate your insights! Having a modular tunnel system really does offer a unique solution for pet playtime, I just wish we could have tested it as it was designed. Hopefully something for the future! Totally agree on the shelves, we've got a video planned on that type of thing for the future but it will be fairly expensive, so still a few months away! I didn't even know JG had toys. I have a nice baby blue tunnel from aliexpress that I got for like $5 or something and it has lasted me 15+ years?! lmao. My old old family cat whom I bought this for has already passed and my 4th cat (who is already 7 now) loves it to death. She's always lying inside waiting to kill your ankles when you walk past. This material is crazy and definitely will kill the earth with plastic pollution because of how it never ever breaks down lmao.

Jackson Galaxy is dropping off and I can tell you honestly that once upon a time long ago because lots of people weren't famous on FB and before extended profiles when he started on My Cat From Hell...when I watched that show attempting to have an open mind, he was an advocate when I meet him on other forums but as one of the people on his first profile who could contact him. I watched 3 episodes of the series and being the assinine individual I am I messaged and said how dare you make a show to correct cat behavior by walking in and stressing the cat and inciting the behavior then giving a list of instructions walk out, in my personal opinion your deliberately abusing a cat to make a show. What school did Jackson go to that gave him a certificate in behavior? The online course has been invented and even if he worked with cats for 30 years the claim of tens of thousands? I don't count how many I rescued I can count the ones that were not made to be rescued but in 27 years in rescue I couldn't possibly rescue 10s of thousands, his popularity is dropping because he's so vain he honestly believes himself. Thousands sure 10s of I doubt that, and self inflated ego eventually translates to people who really do work with cats and thier behaviors, and it really seems to me that his ego isn't buying him the celebrity status he claims. Kind of like how Cesar Milan the so called dog whisperer kicking the dog with his back heel on TV was ok because he was the dog whisperer and so it wasn't abuse it was training correction...right? Sure it was but its things like that are the reason JG's toys are on Amazon but just not selling since the marketing claims the toys in the trademarked box were his design? Nah they are available for rebranding he just picked a toy he thought was safe and put it in a box with his brand on it, you can buy similar toys at the dollar store and none are safety tested for animals either way. Can you say hypocrite, its almost a dirty word the guy sounds off about safety standards and chooses a toy to brand because its safe enough while the reason you should buy that toy is because he's the guy who has worked with 10's of thousands of cats and I'm sure he played with every single one of them to test that toy right?
