This movie is SO damn underrated!!!! One of the few movies I’ve seen as an adult to scare me. If you can look past the bad acting and the hideous 2000’s era cinematography, it’s a hidden gem

I loved this movie. Still love it I've had a friend, Victor, who died in 2017. We use to reunite once a year to marathon horror movies, and we watched this one on our top 10. We called it "Mary Shaw", we didn't even care about the real name, we just loved Mary's presence. As a kind of Freddy Krueger in a more threatening female form. Judith made us loved her on it. This just made me kind of sad and nostalgic. Gonna watch this one tonight. Love you, Victor, wherever you are.

People sadly just wanted more SAW and Universal did a bad job marketing it. Strangely enough, they did a very popular haunted house attraction based on it later that year at their Halloween event in Orlando.

Dead Silence is a very underrated entry in James Wan’s filmography. It’s Atmospheric and creepy, it freaked me out a few times when watching it. Death Sentence is a great film that deserved way more respect than it got.
@gabetufano7055 Жыл бұрын
Never understood why this movie got so much hate. This is a very solid horror film. It's not perfect but it's really good with a solid twist. It's one of my favorites...They probably could've gotten away from the "$20 million budget" and did it for a lot less. This was early in Wan's and Whannell's career. I know Whannell has always been critical of this film and I am sure he has his reasons but it's a fairly well written script.

One of my favorite horror movies! There just aren’t enough supernatural horror films involving just evil ghosts (no demons, no “portals to hell). While I’m sad that this is forgotten, at the same time it at least didn’t get cursed with bad sequels. Also, I don’t mind that it’s a film where the audience is way ahead of the protagonist because it does inform the perpetual feeling of dread throughout it.

An underrated horror classic. Even though it’s not what the creators wanted it’s still an amazing movie. I could only imagine what it would have been like if they could have done what they wanted.

One of my favorite ghost movies. I always felt Det. Lipton's death was a cheap way to speed up the third act and get Jamie back for the finale since the in movie rules state if you ever saw Mary Shaw to not scream yet he screamed falling off the railing with Shaw nowhere around initially.
@neonicon8500 Жыл бұрын
I think it was supposed to be "don't scream in her presence." I don't think you had to be actually LOOKING at her. Because something knocked him off the catwalk right? Or did he just fall? I forget. But it probably wasn't safe screaming anywhere inside her "lair"

When I was a kid, my cousin tried to pass off the story from this movie as something he saw on a ghost hunting show. "It was a true story. It happened one town in over from here." He wanted me to be afraid that the ghost would appear in my dreams for real

From a former filmstudent's perspective, I am very fond of this gem. My teachers were adament in teaching that we should prioritize quality over quantity. Always. Less is more. Atmosphere and mood is a must. Sure, this film is not perfect, no film is, however it delivers on all fronts in my view (aside from certain minuscule aspects, which pales in overall view). One of the creepiest films of the modern era and according to my taste. I'm a scaredy cat, so I always need to watch something uplifting afterwards. Long comment, sorry. Great movie.

Dolls being alive have never been done as well as this one. Yeah she possesses some of them but the flashback to one of Shaw’s shows always made me think the dolls actually had a mind of their own to an extent. It wasn’t over the top but also not subtle. Twas a good balance

I love this movie, it was nice to see James Wan do something over the freaking top like Dead Silence again when I saw Malignant last year. (Amazing theater experience!) The detective who's always shaving, I saw a snippet of a Jamie Lee Curtis thriller where she and a truck driver are following an RV that they suspect is involved in murder, and the truck driver she was with was shaving while driving in the snippet. It made me wonder if James Wan put that into the Dead Silence detective character's quirks because he'd seen that one back in the day, as a nod to the movie.

I remember this film because the year it came out, it was also a haunted maze at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando. The Mary Shaws were actors on heelies which gave them that “floating” feeling, and they recreated a lot of the sets to the detail with real puppet antiques.

I only remember dead silence because my little brother was terrified of the the type of dolls in the film. I would scare him with the images after we saw the film. 😂 today that fear is pretty much gone, but it was a fun experience as an older brother. Now, I might rewatch the film as it has been a long time. So a watch with adult eyes may help. But I never feel like going out of my way to watch it as the reviews and talks only remember the film as the disappointment it was and how bad it is. Even with the good premise it had related horror to the dolls and making them a more center focus. It’s not a chucky but an inanimate object with one grin and plastic eyes that look like they follow you wherever you move.
