Great video as usual. I was thinking that with the increasing possibility that Jarrett Stidham is the QB for the Patriots this year, it’d be really cool if you could go back to last year’s preseason tape and give fans a better idea of what he brings to the table. I know you already went through film from the Panthers preseason game, but it’d be nice to review another game (maybe the Lions game) with him being the starter in mind. Some analysts and scouts are saying he could’ve been a top four QB in this year’s class so it’d be awesome to see what you think

Herbert still wouldn't have made any improvement at Alabama, their offensive-coordinators have been awful since Lane Kiffin left. Just the shear level of talent of the players on the field (outside of the offensive-line as a whole, because it's been average at best since after 2012) backpacked the mongoloids they've had to deal with over the years.

Thanks for making this video. A couple big differences in the 2018 and 2019 film: - 7 man protections in 2018 caused more problems and created less answers to those problems. I think if you use 7 man protections often your team better have a DOMINANT WR running routes like an Andre Johnson, Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson type of guy that can frequently beat double coverage. - lots of defenders around the the WR targets. Not as much one on one coverage becz there was often only 3 or 4 guys in the route and 5 or 6 in coverage. Math advantage: Defense Think probability: -how often does a WR beat double coverage or coverage with safety help? -how often does a WR beat single coverage? 7 man protections create double coverage.

Scheme and Wr in 2018 were not good. Burrow didnt get there until fall camp and was 3rd in getting reps behind McMillan and Brennan. Burrow didn't get all the 1st team reps until week 1. Once he had an offseason and those wr had a year under their belt to learn the system you saw how he was a much better qb than everyone else. On that first play it was a bad scheme but he just threw it late and Jefferson probably flattens that route. And This year Jefferson would of had that as soon as he turned his head.
@HomemadeSubmarine
@HomemadeSubmarine 4 жыл бұрын
The guy at 3:04 was Justin Jefferson and I doubt anyone would consider him bad. I don’t think you can pin it on wide receiver play for the majority of his shortcomings in 2018. Scheme and reps, I agree, were a factor and I would say that’s where the majority of his issues arose. I would agree with saying he was much better than anyone else if it weren’t for Tua being in that same tier. Regardless, one of the largest turn arounds for a single player in college football history.

@@adgee5401 Was he beaten out or were the coaches just wrong? Many in the building thought Burrow was better but some coaches fell in love with Haskins' arm strength. Humans are unreliable judges, we all have our biases. A coach that loves a big arm may not start a guy like a young Brees or Tom Brady, if they also have a young Winston or Stafford. Texas Tech didn't fully believe in Baker Mayfield and we all know how well he did with a coaching staff that believed in him. Even the Bears coaching staff analyzed Mitch Trubisky and Desean Watson and decided Mitch was the better player. We all know how foolish that is. Point is, even coaches aren't perfect evaluators of talent. Could of simply been Burrow was the better QB beat Haskins, and the coaching staff got it wrong.

People gave joe brady all the credit, but LSU is running some 2019 stuff in 2018. You can see it in the first few plays here. I must have had that epiphany in spring 2018, but didn't really perfect it until 2019. Every year I get better & surprise myself by putting how much I thought I knew about football the prior year to shame. I watched this tape 100 times in the off-season. Every thing we did was to beat Alabama in 2019. "Watch out, Joe Burrow," was in my head all year.

Nothing, it was his first season in LSU and his first season starting on top of that the player's were not all there in place yet either. But having said that unlike the media and everyone else out there who just copy whatever the other person said they have been completely wrong about Burrow only having the one good season.....Well again it was his first season in LSU and starting and he still threw for 16 TDS and only 6 interceptions and led LSU to the fiesta bowl! And not only led LSU to the fiesta bowl in his first season starting and won the game against a tough sec opponent who I can't think of off hand....so that was a damn good season then he showed growth in his second season unbelievable growth and had a great season. The guy is a winner, he is very smart, he is full of confidence and he is going to be a pro bowl quarterback for the Bengals! The only thing Brown and his daughter need to do is put a great offensive line in front of Burrow and keep a great defense and Burrow is going to lead the Bengals to a super bowl as long as Brown keeps a great Offensive line in front of him period. Yes he can move around in the pocket effortlessly like it's second nature and he keeps his eyes downfield always! He has a good scrambling ability also but the thing is he had time to throw the ball at LSU....watch the games and see how great his o-line was...he had time to scan the field and make plays and wasn't running for his life constantly or even under pressure alot but like I said when the pocket broke down the few rare occasions it did he always scrambled beautifully and bought time to complete a pass or he would scramble for good yardage! He's going to be great the freaking Bengals need to do 1 main thing to make this work and send us to a super bowl and that is do whatever they have to to keep a great o-line blocking for Joe...oh! And keep a great defense on the damn team also and the Bengals are going to be in for some fucking killer seasons ahead folks! It's finally going to be a team we will be proud of and we will be in the super bowl as long as Mike and Katie do the right thing.

This is a really interesting look at how Burrow plays when the system isn't tailored to him and the talent around him isn't all world. You still see the special traits that he has especially when under pressure. The mechanics are solid and the timing and accuracy are evident. Of course the Bengals would be wise to follow the 2019 LSU blueprint and get people out in routes and let Burrow be a surgeon. Unfortunately wise and Bengals don't go in the same sentence often...

10:58 I agree that it was a great throw, very accurate. But it was a horrible decision, throwing into triple coverage. Maybe not bc he was facing Alabama DBs, who rarely, and when i say rarely, i mean maybe twice a season, look up or look back for the ball. 14 Deonte Thompson horribly undercut the ball, 15 Xavier McKinney is just running with NO CLUE where the ball is. Both of those safeties should have intercepted that pass. Again, great throw, bad decision.

patrickadonislewis an interesting thing with LSU’s offense in 18 is how often the other team’s colors surrounded the WRs. It was becz only 2 or 3 WRs got into the route so it becomes math: if Bama rushes 4 that likely leaves 5 DBs to cover 2 or 3 WRs... in 2019 LSU got 5 guys into most routes meaning Bama DBs had to cover LSUs WRs mostly one on one... Then there’s tempo to tire the rush and Joe Burrow throwing the ball quick or moving around in the pocket well. They just got a lot of things right in 2019.
@patrickadonislewis

@@Fearlessleadr7 I agree! That's why when it was rumored that Joe Brady was leaving, I wanted Saban to fire Sarkisian on the spot and back up a Bama painted Brinks truck to the LSU football facilities. I remember a crucial 4th Qtr 3rd & 10 in 2019 game vs Bama. Bama has gotten in back w/in 6. For once, Pete Golding (Bama DC) had perfect blitz call, but bc it seemed Edwards-Helaire was always in the route too, and at the last second Burrow flicked it out to him. Our horrible tackling DB Diggs, let him drag him for 7 yds and the 1st down. They eventually scored a TD. That's one thing i've never understood about Saban. Everyone can come in a pick our coaching staff apart, but Saban never gets an in demand coach from a power school like a Clemson, LSU, Ohio St. Think about this matchup. Just for context LSU had pretty much their entire 2018 team back (including a 23 y/o QB but w/out White & Greedy on Def) and Bama was starting 2 TrFr at MLB, a TrFr at S & a TrFr at NT. That's just for context, The LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady came from the Saints (All Time Leading Passer & TDs). Alabama's DC, in his first yr as DC, came from UTSA Roadrunners. Its laughable now that I think about it.

joe brady wasnt there. just like OU system makes every qb they have look great so does joe brady's system because it routinely creates mismatches at the college level. The fact the NFL swooped in and took brady less than a week after the championship game is very telling. he had an incredible season in 2019 but people ignore a lot of the other things about burrow. and the fact he wasnt on campus during 2019, was taking only a few classes, and had everything line up to get this season is worth noting.
@BrianFike1

Joe Brady's impact is being waaaaay over-stated. He was brought in to teach spread concepts. Play-calljng duties remained with Ensminger who sometimes accepted play calls from Brady. They didn't have a "system" so much as they had 5 weapons on offense that no defense in college could always cover. Plays are called to try and get one of these guys matched up to their advantage. Joe was prepared enough to recognize the "weapon" on just about every play. THAT'S the system: Joe Burrow. This is the same thing for the Saints: Drew Brees is the system. Burrow also earned a Master's degree while at LSU. This is similar to Matt Leinert's final season at SC. His classes that he took were part of a curriculum and not just throwaway classes to meet minimum NCAA requirements.

@@BrianFike1 burrow is not the system. you are talking like he's mahomes or something. he is not an elite talent. in college football it is virtually impossible for teams to cover 5 weapons. most teams cannot handle 3 when they are deployed well. LSU might have had thier old guy still calling plays but he was using a superior system and as this video shows that guys plays were half field reads and never threatened the defense. He had no distracts from campus life as he was never there, he was isolated in online classes, had the best or second best play designer college football, and had recievers running open. he's an ok qb but he's being pushed way too hard. i equate this to the year matt ryan had a ridiculous year with his best oc when he had the guy that now coaches the 49ers.

You know people keep talking about this magic system that that make defenders get burnt, and miss tackles and forces defenders to fail at sacking Joe Burrow, and makes even the best DCs useless, and prevents Joe Burrow from throwing off target 76% of the time. What we all witnessed with Joe Burrow was a guy who started one season, evaluated his performance... identified what he needed to improve as well as what his offensive unit needed to improve... utilized all the resources and coaching he could receive... established a standard of work ethic among his teammates... and sustained that level of work ethic and preparation for the whole season. That commitment to excellence and consistent execution on the field is what was special about 2019 Joe Burrow. His success in Cincy depends on the Bengal’s front office yes... but equally as much on how strong his motivation to stay that locked in is. He literally gave his life to football in 2019. How long is he willing to be that committed?

Come on guys, he had one excellent year at LSU and his three years at Ohio the only thing he did was a degree in consumer & family financial services, other than that he didn't do a damn thing football until he got a good cast around him. In my opinion, he's going to be another carrot head except without the carrot hair.

Nathan Shlapobersky bro u sound so dumb. Burrow hasn’t shown he can flourish under multiple systems and has only shown he could be good in one. Tua has flourished under a vertical attacking offense and a west coast offense. But okay.
