It’s because Kylie Cosmetics brand can only stay relevant while Kylie herself remains relevant. If she falls off, so will the business. Where as Rare Beauty and Fenty are built of the celebrity but also the quality/ artistry. Fenty having actual makeup artists marketing the products puts an emphasis on the artistry and Rare Beauty marketing itself as an inclusive brand that anyone can try puts an emphasis on the quality and ease of using her products. Kylie just marketed itself on young girls wanting to look like Kylie, have her lips etc. Wanting that full glam almost drag like makeup that was sooooo popular back then. People don’t want to look like that anymore lol bc makeup trends have changed. Since the brand relies on Kylies image not only does the brands image have to evolve and adapt , so does Kylie herself.

Kylie Cosmetics failed to evolve with the times and just kept releasing more and more outdated products and collections instead of focusing on creating products that would stand the test of time and people would repurchase. Like all these fad “collections” birthday collection, valentines collection, mom collection, stormi collection, dogs collection, my housekeepers collection, stormis dogs collection bla bla bla…. it got so boring, repetitive and wasn’t special anymore. These are things people may buy once but don’t repurchase as they’re fads and limited edition. That’s not how a brand survives. The reason these huge brands that sometimes we view as “boring” like mac, nars, l’oréal etc last the test of time is because they don’t just cash in on fads, they have products we all have in our makeup bags that we use regularly for years on end. They might not always be as “popular” or famous as Kylie but they put their marketing into making products we will all repurchase. Even Fenty did that, their foundations are standing the rest of time and already have a following for example. But thats what Kylie Cosmetics failed to do. They just cashed in on what was “popular” at the time which was heavy makeup and matte lips like Kylie herself and when that started to go out of style the brand didn’t evolve with it. It grew stale, as did Kylie herself.

The documentary is an obvious marketing gimmick for the rebrand- it's clear because no where in the videos does it even talk about the actual makeup (ex. how it's made). They didn't even mention her lip fillers which is the whole reason her lip kits became popular. Sad to see how many people have body dysmorphia due to this family- they will never admit to the public that they have had tons of plastic surgery and set unrealistic expectations for beauty

Kendall’s pr team definitely strategically planned out the 818 marketing scheme , the controversy literally created a viral TikTok trend to try out the bottle, skyrocketing the sales. the only reason why kylie is revamping her makeup brand and making a whole youtube series on it is bc her sales are down and she saw how shane and jeffree sold a lot when they made their own series bc it allows for the consumer to connect with the product. I feel like Kylie cosmetics kind of was just throwing out products just to throw out products instead of giving their consumers quality stuff. They kind of just followed the trends of what’s popular and what will sell. Don’t get me wrong, I was obsessed with the lip kits back then because that’s what the craze was! But now, there are soo many other companies that are willing to give us quality makeup and skincare products (especially when the brand is centered primarily on one certain thing like lashes or just skincare) and people are more open to criticize and express their dislike towards their products.

I think they did the rebrand because their product purchases probably started flat lining with each individual product. They also want to appeal to the newer generations that have disposable income. Changing branding and including the clean beauty is a way to appeal to the current markets needs.

Make a podcast pls, these talks about beauty brands are so interesting and really informative. I didn’t know Kylie cosmetics used the same manufactures as Colourpop. Her matte lips are hella drying for that I rather stay with brands like Colourpop. I always wondered how she got away with dry and clumpy matte lipsticks ( only clumpy when you reapply) and sat at meetings and was like “yes this is it!”. I’ve always stayed away from Kylie Cosmetics. And also I feel like KKW is for like moms who wants the more natural bare minimum look lmaoo but that’s my opinion.

Love this type of video! I just wanted to give my two cents on the topic and as a former Ulta employee… Kylie cosmetics originally appealed to her younger audience who admires her and essentially wants to be like her. But Kylie products aside from her lip kits just aren’t top quality. And unfortunately for Kylie there are way too many brands who offer way better quality products for the same or cheaper price range. So people aren’t willing to settle for bad quality just because it’s Kylie Jenner. On another note it also turned her customers off when she or her makeup artists rarely use Kylie cosmetics. The whole appeal of KC in the beginning is to use what she uses to achieve the looks/lips she has. But in the end the customers know there’s no way she uses her own products so why should they.

Idk what the heck is going on with the mini series and it truly seems like her interest have shifted which is OKAY but because her brand relies heavily on her relevancy, her brand will struggle as consequence.
