I distinctly recall a night when Adult Swim interjected a "lost episode" of the animated series that was originally scheduled to play when the series was fresh, but was lost to time? (I don't recall the exact details, but there was a disclaimer card at the beginning of the episode), and I had no clue what was going on, but I was invested. I think it was about Dante and Randall fighting a court case on the use of their store name by some dude in a suit. It was random at times, but hilarious. Made me love the dichotomy between the main two characters, and I would be delighted to see them IN LIVE ACTION when I just-as-randomly caught a viewing of the original movie. One of these days, I'll have to schedule a day where I just binge the whole saga, including the spinoffs.

I worked in a mall (or shopping centre as we call them in the UK) for 13 years, 1988-2001. And when Clerks came out, all the retail workers adored it. Similarly with Mallrats. Even though it only went straight to VHS in the UK. Eventually I made pirate VHS dubs of both films and would lend them to workers in other shops. I think they were being used as training aids. Funnily enough, the grand majority of viewers, although liking both films, preferred Mallrats. Probably due to the familiarity of environment. See also 'Dawn of the Dead' (1979)

I've said it a lot, Scott Mosier was the glue that kept Kevin's movies together. Red State is probably the exception to this but overall everything made after that was just way too self indulgent, and often just utter dreck. There's clearly an audience for it that keeps him getting funding for them. But dear god Clerks 3 made me mad at how .. scrappy and unfinished it was. Not to mention just unpleasant. And I loved Clerks 2.

I swear I think there was a switch made between the Kevin Smith of the 80s 90s 00s and 10s and now, he used to be almost stoic, which was very funny in his delivery of spoken word tours, but now we have this highly emotional, nostalgic, thin, constantly crying dude who bops back and forth like a bollywood movie, and is constantly happy looking. From He-Man to Clerks 3, that Kevin makes trash, and that's coming from someone who likes Tusk, which I think is underappreciated.

My brother-in-law introduced me to View Askew with Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back when I was around 13. Years later, I got through a rough breakup with several liters of cheap Canadian whiskey and marathoning every View Askew movie. So a couple years later, for my 23rd birthday (Smith's age when he made Clerks), I gathered some friends and took a road trip to Jersey to go to the Quick Stop and the Secret Stash. A week later, Smith had his heart attack. I want to go to the new Secret Stash, but I don't wanna kill the guy

Even if you hate the film script and find it infantile and all the performances aren't great for a mainstream film (the actual actors lee, docherty guy from guardians stc are serviceable) Jason Lee, although amateurish dominates the screen like no other performance, pure charisma.

I met Jeremy London at Mobicon in 2017. I remember asking him what was up with Mallrats 2 taking so long. He had two answers, one was that Kevin Smith was busy with his horror projects. The second answer, and I feel main answer, was that at the time they were waiting on Shannen Doherty to make a full recovery from breast cancer. Which unfortunately never happened, may she RIP

I didn't see the movie in theaters but I remember when it came out on pay-per-view. When the schedule came out for that month we found out It was only going to play twice so me and my brother made sure we didn't miss it. We caught the first showing and loved it so much that we watched it the second time around too and this time recorded it on to a blank tape. We had a black box at the time so all those channels were free.

In my head, My version of 'Mallrats 2' would be reuniting the original cast and the setting would be in front of the (now dead) mall from the first film. For the next two hours, the entire cast would just stand there complaining and moaning how online shopping has essentially killed the shopping mall. It would be shot in black and white a'la Clerks 1.

Mallrats was the movie that made me wanna write movies. The idea of two dudes just getting into hi-jinx in a mall and talking comics spoke to me on a personal level. It reminded me of many a Saturday spent with my friends just hanging out at our local mall just doing nothing all day. I think Twilight Of The Mallrats has the potential to be one of Kev's better movies. Dead mall culture and the Brodie not being able to let go of his golden years is a great concept. I always liked the idea of the mall slowly going out of business, Brodie being one of the last stores in there, and coming up with some crazy idea to save the mall or have one last hurrah before it closes. Have this plan strain his relationship with his daughter, while TS tries to talk him out of it, more and more chaos ensues as they go along. The drama of Clerks III didn't really stick with me, even though it got an emotional response when I saw it in the theater. However, The 4:30 Movie was a vast improvement and really showed me that Smith can still write good dialog and get a fun story across. His biggest hurdle for me is being far too topical. No one wants to hear Kev talk about bitcoin and the pandemic, dude just needs to be himself and write about slacker relationships and nerd stuff.

I'll always remember the first time I heard about Mallrats. It was in a leaflet distributed by monthly by my local video club talking monthly and in there was Mallrats...and it had no synopsis and I don't think it even had an age rating. I must have been around 7-8....so I didn't have any idea what the title meant. Made it look so mysterious. I would eventually catch it on TV (and it took me several watches before I actually got the plot). My big brother gave me the movie as a christmas present, but he had no idea I had seen it before.

How about a Mallrats 2 being a horror comedy, where the returning characters fend off giant mutated mall rats(like actual rats) in gory fashion almost with a dawn of the dead feel to it. This would make Mallrats 1 the biggest prologue to a horror movie.
