He never even wanted a record deal or to be a star. He just wanted to sing. Along his path to success though, Musiq Soulchild was battling some personal demons that, if not handled correctly, could potentially ruin everything.

I agree. A lot of talk about how the 90s was music was at its peak but we tend to forget or didn’t realize that the early 2000s was the true peak for music. Especially for Rnb/neo soul
@TheNewgreatlife
@TheNewgreatlife 2 жыл бұрын
@@cookinwitp0ppin331 That's true facts! Not just opinion, ACTUAL FACTS! The summer of 2001 in particular is actually R&B's ultimate peak. Almost every mainstream urban act had a hit album out that year. There was huge saturation and huge hits to match! We haven't seen an era quite like that since.

@@thedepresseddog6035 I don't know about what Sade had out then, but I'd say Erykah Badu truly lead the early 2000s neo-soul. She was the only 90s pioneer that continued making music throughout the 2000s while D'Angelo, Maxwell, and Lauryn Hill all disappeared. By 2003, she was the only already established name still making neo-soul.

I'm from Va and Philadelphia is a city I fell in love with. My 1st visit was in 1998, everlasting memories. The part of Va I came from, was slums and gentrified in the late 90s early 2000s. Philly is a place I rock with hard! Love the women out dere, beautiful queen's! Many brothers are cool and knowledgeable! The streets is real out dere! Nothing but respect. I recently did a job out dere, January 5, 2022. Truck delivery from Maryland too Philly. I currently live in Maryland left my hometown for a better life. Again love Philly. I went too "Gooey Louie's; too get a chicken cheesesteak! Gooey Louie's ran out of the chicken cheesesteak so I walk down a few block's too a soulfood seafood restaurant got crab cakes and macaroni/ cheese, expensive 19.76 but it was delicious. Maryland is known for its 🦀 crab cakes, so I was surprised Philly made dem really good! Love y'all beautiful queen's man!

Musiq Soulchild doesn't ever get brought up in the conversation even though his music is amazing! He's always been treated as "just there." It's definitely about time he got his flowers! "Just Friends", "Halfcrazy", and "B.U.D.D.Y." are some of my favorite and most played songs ever! Big shoutout to "Love" too. That's a classic R&B song of the early 2000s! My mom is stuck on "Teachme."

It’s so disappointing to me that an artist of Musiq’s caliber could ever have to feel unappreciated & unsupported. This Brotha has delivered so many classic songs. His songs from years ago can be played today & still sound fresh. I wasn’t annoyed by his choice to rap or go purple. I just assumed that he was experimenting with different styles of music. He’s one of a few artists whose work never disappoints or gets boring. If I remember correctly, some of his relationship business went personal, he was painted as being shady & unfaithful & that’s when public sentiment & support seemed to change a bit. It impacted his public image or persona, but the music has never ceased to pop. In any event, I like how you chronicled his career & his life. You did good!

Also just wanted to add that your meme/reaction placement is amazing lol that gif of that woman in the Wendy Williams show audience will never get old. Can you do a video on Raheem DeVaughn and Melanie Fiona? Thanks and keep up the good work! I feel like fans are so hypocritical sometimes. They want "real" music but don't support it with their dollars and streaming counts. The artist has to make a living so they change up to what's selling and the fans get mad. Wowww didn't know he was married to her. I really love his song " Love " & "Teach Me "...I start to sing as soon as they come on. That song has been on my playlist for about 4yrs. I'm not even tired of hearing it. Such romantic & sweet songs. Can you please do one Kelly Price, Q- Tip, Shai, Troop Avant, Keri Hilson, Keke Wyatt or Faith..!! What happened to these ppl & what they doing now.

Halfway through the video, he was already at 6 albums. I’m not even a fan of this guy, and that level of productivity is impressive to me. If he stopped there and went on to something else in his life, that would’ve been more than enough. Respect. Adding to that... 2018, another album? With 24 tracks? And after mentioning that, the video keeps going with more contributions from this artist. This guy is a workhorse, and I’ve clearly missed a lot. I’ll go get caught-up.

That last album, "feel the real" is one of the best albums I’ve heard in a long time. "Dewitt 4 Dilla" is 20 minutes of smooth riding. And he’s dropping a new album on Friday. First in about 6 years. The tracks already available sound awesome!

Unfortunately, it's very hard to change your persona and brand once you are successful with one style. People become committed to that persona and idea of the artist. I can only think of a few people whose change benefited them, P!nk, Sia, Marvin Gaye, etc. But it has to be good and still have that core essence of the artist that folks can still comprehend.

P!nk didn't necessarily change persona. She was never into the poppish/RnB vibe, but that's what the label convinced her would sell. She fulfilled her ONE album contract, changed labels, and has been doing the music she wanted to from the very beginning ever since

I've always loved, admired and respected this talent brothers work. I wad fortunate to see him live at Radio City Music Hall and his talent is definitely something to behold. Not to mention his band was comprised of full figured beautiful and talented women..just goes to show that he's about talent ..not simply the clichéd presentation. I still give his tracks heavy rotation in my mixtape series. His entrance into the music industry heralded the birth of the Neo Soul Era. Philly had some of the best Neo Soul artists whose music had stood the test of time. Glad to see he hasn't given up on sharing his gift with the world.
