Hi Joel, please don't get rid of it - I bought my £800 5D shortly after watching your series of videos. I found one locally listed on Facebook and I did all the wrong things.... bought it at night, in the rain, but now I've got it and appraised it properly, I'm far from disappointed. It has a few faults, like any 245,000 mile car, but it has MoT until next winter and I'm looking forward to the challenge of sorting the few bits it needs - inspired by you! Thank you!

Fellow xc90 owner here from Sweden. Keep it! Take care of it and learn from it. You won't regret it. P2 volvos are amazing cars and very nice to work with in my opinion. I have the xc90 t6 from 2004 and it runs like a dream.

I'm sure you'd have no shortage of sponsors. You could ask GSF or eBay to supply parts and expertise will surely follow. Why don't you do a giveaway or drive it to Ukraine and donate to a charity there? I feel there's a bigger story yet to unfold which would give you some excellent content. If you need more ideas, I'm happy to come on board.

If you get it sorted mechanically then it will run and run perfectly for a long, long, time. Cosmetics you can do at your leisure. I had a '64 plate one. Bought it 1.5 years old with 46K on the clock. I had it for nearly 6 years and took the mileage to 63k. In that time I had it serviced once a year - and it never needed anything on top of the service and sailed through all MOTs without even an advisory. These things, if you just spend a small amount each year on very basic maintenance, are rock solid. Great family car. Took it camping a few times - 4 people, a massive 8 man tent in the boot, camping gear for a week, a massive Kamei 560L roof box and a towbar mounted bike rack with 3 bikes on it. Even took it to Hockenheim once with all the gear. Just took it all in its stride. Mind you, it drank more diesel than is consumed at Oktoberfest

Hi Joel! I just subscribed to your channel after binge watching every single episode of your Volvo XC90 restoration adventure! Thank you for sharing all that time you spent in the garage with your own repairs! As an owner of a 2012 Volvo XC90 3.2 FWD Premier Plus model as my daily SUV, I am hoping that you decided to keep that beautiful vehicle for further care. I almost got tears in my eyes when I saw that the (broken) odometer shows over 300K miles, for it gives me hope that my own XC90 with 130K can last just as long with regular care and maintenance. I also have an appreciation for vehicles but cannot afford to buy any, so it's a pleasure to be able to live vicariously through your channel. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2024!

You should keep it. It has clearly gotten under your skin. Most ABS problems are either the sensors or the pickup rings. Both jobs themselves are easy enough to do. The drieveshafts can be a pig of a job to remove. My front ones were easy so maybe I just got lucky. My XC90 was in 2 wheel drive for a long time until my CEM issue got worse. I ended up having to fit a replacement DEM to my Haldex coupling to have a fully working 4WD to eliminate that problem as part of the CEM diagnosis. The CEM was faulty so I ended up getting it repaired and it has been fine ever since. The error codes should point you in the right direction for both issues. I'd love to help you out but I'm "oop north" in deepest Yorkshire so you will have to make do with my XC90 videos. Don't get your front wheel alignment done until you've finished all your work on the front suspension and steering.

I really dont think you should get rid , even if it's just devoting more time trying to get the electrics working, the navi and other infotainment components, the small left screen on the dashboard etc. because that'll just add value, make the "project" more worthwhile, maybe i'm just being stupid, but I'm thinking of that old car technology. Then, you can take it back to it's roots, into Sweden somewhere and back, to have one final long and fun drive before you think of selling it on to one of us, or scrapping it.

Nice video! 👌 I know I'm a few months late, but your odometer being stuck is to do with the ABS fault. I have a V70 which had the same issue, odometer stuck on ~580.000km and ABS fault light on the dash. Hopefully you have a decent obd reader (I have iCarsoft CR Max, its pretty ok especially if you're not too brand loyal and like to tinker on numerous cars) You can check if you have communication with ABS module. I didn't. Mine eventually turned out to be just a faulty 5A fuse in the left hand front door/dash fuse compartment. But you can get readings from ABS sensors for each wheel, brake booster, brake light switch etc etc. You seem to have a functioning CRUISE which also should rule out some brake problems. Anyway, sort that out and you'll have a functional odometer again.

Joel; the stopped ODO along with an ABS light indicate a BCM (Brake Control Module) fault. Remove it from under the ABS pump; airbox will need to come out. 4 torx upside down secure it so have something to catch them. Contact cleaner on the plugs and the contacts on the BCM and refit it. If that doesn't work just send it to Remanx (formerley) BBA Reman in Rochester. Should be no more than 70 GBP for them to fix it.

Use the Volvo as a training tool to up skill yourself trying the types of jobs that most of us tackle. Roof liner repair if possible with contact adhesive or replace if you can source a replacement. Paint work polishing and scratch repairs etc. If you scew up it doesn’t matter, as long as you learn from it!

You need to use a regular office stapler to fix the headliner (strategically placed staples), until you can get it replaced. Staples are better than glue as when the headliner is replaced, you wont have to remove all the glue you used trying to fix it.

I have a 24 year old Honda HRV. It's cost a lot to get through the last couple of MOT tests and there's probably more work that needs doing. However, I love it to bits and it's the best car I've ever owned to date. There's an old saying 'Better the devil you know' (which was also a Kylie Minogue song), meaning stick to something if it's still good, basically. At least try and keep it for a while longer, say, until next autumn.

Great car but could end up a money-pit for the next owner, if you were to sell. Always worth giving an old car a new lease of life but everything has it's limits. I would sell the parts of the car separately. You'd get good money for the seats. When done, sell the body to a scrap yard and the money made could go towards another car, or to keep the porsche running.

I don't know what year yours is but I have a high km 07 I drive every day and it's been a pretty reliable workhorse really, and pretty cheap to maintain with a mechanic who's happy to just replace a part with a reconditioned part you might supply for example. Anyway, I like the different interior bits in yours and it would be a shame to get rid of it. But hey, I'm a bit of a hoarder too. Watching because I've just given mine a pretty good spruce up so liking xc90 stuff now 😆 and if you haven't done in a bit, change the cabin filter...my god the difference.

However, when you are finished with the Cayenne, even if it's in a year from now, I'd definitely consider buying that from you. I've wanted one for a while and it would be nice to buy it from my favourite KZbinr. Also, I have a smart 454 Brabus that my wife hates and I know that she would be much happier in an old Cayenne.

Loving the intro's! And the experience of getting used cars. I'm deep into a 2013 Mercedes E200 station wagon from Germany now, 4K for car, 2k for getting all fluids, seals, wear&tear parts renewed and DPF filter cleaned. 200€ for a new COC document, 300 for getting some scratches painted. 100 euro for fuel to get the car home and 5in1 engine cleaner additive. So 6.600€ in but everything is freshened up. Same car here starts from 9k to 12k for high milage and going up if you want a less used one. Crossing my fingers for passing our MOT here. Final wish, getting it wrapped in a nice color and some nicer looking wheels with summer tires (michelin pilot sport 4s). But that MOT thingy is scaring the crap out of me 😅😅😅 hope I'll survive the adventure 😅 Look what you made me do! 😜 Carly helps as well and tells me all is good mechanically. Praying it gets through, because people don't believe such a cheap car can be OK. But you have proved it can.

My 2p Joel is this - you love it but don't have a use for it, we've all been there. It does have a list of 'little' jobs, some of which may not be so little (or cheap), and some are probably beyond your capabilities. Unless you're going to film yourself working on the car, there's no content for the channel in it either. With a recent MOT it will sell, then you can put the money toward (more) petrol for the Porker.

It does sound a little off beat, or is that normal for these diesels? I personally think, as long as you've got that space and it starts, why not keep it. I like you am a hoarder, and I too hoard the wrong cars, but we can only exist within our means. You obviously still like the car, and have spent money and your own time working on it, which actually make it a more personal connection. I say let time decide where things go, just as long as the car doesn't sit too long, cars hate that, and so will your wallet. Just my 2 cents worth, from one Cayenne owner to another...
