bought a Discovery 3 last year. an old dog, cheap, high mileage, love it. Upgraded it this year to a Discovery 4. Cant beat the land rovers.... reliability is a concern, but if your handy with the spanners and have a mechanical mindset then you can keep on top of them...... Totally agree with what you say about once you have one, thats it.

Joel, out of pure respect, I have a warning. I would have that skin tag checked out if you haven’t. I had one near my eye and it was deemed non cancerous. Long story short.. it was incorrectly categorized and I nearly lost my eye. I’d hate for you to go through anything close to the same thing. Again nothing but love! Cheers.

The connection you talk about is so true. My mum has a 2002 Range Rover and although it’s cost them a fortune over the years she’s kept it from day one. Last year she decided to buy a newer Range Rover… they offered her £500 for the “duchess” she told them she’d rather give them the £500 than trade it in, so she now has two.. respectively known as the duke and duchess.

These BMW V8's run insanely hot for emissions and that's why they leak and blow cooling system bits. You can however fit an E38/E65 740d V8 diesel thermostat, lowering temps by 15 degrees or so. A neat bolt on mod that really helps the car along.

My Dad has an '08' L322, it has cost him an absolute fortune in repairs and maintenance, every time I visit him he has spent more money on it. Just spent 3k sorting out a load of corrosion. Pure madness, I'd have binned it ages ago.

Bought a 2002. 4.4 L for £2.5K a while back - absolute money pit of a car. Bought it for a box ticking exercise to say I'd had one and intended to keep it 6 months and sell it on without too much of a loss. Years later I still daily drive it as my only car and help support my local petrol station owner, so much so he's now got a Bentley. These things are so relaxing to drive, I swear it's brought my blood pressure and made me for chilled.

I have a 2003 HSE L322 (215k) and it is a dream to drive on the highways here in Ontario. Recently replaced a left front CV joint and last year one of the coils on the engine. Otherwise it's been a very reliable vehicle mechanically with only small issues to address. For comparison, I've had a lot less issues with the L322 than I had with my P38. A preventive maintenance tip I'd like to share If you have one of these early model L322's, I suggest checking the top of the rear seal that the rear hatch (top part of the hatch with the window) rests on. A faulty or degraded seal here will potentially lead to water ingress and begin to mess with your Nav system as the water naturally tracks down the body internals and comes down directly overhead of some electronics. The audio system back end is also located in the same cubby along with other components. These BMW Nav unit brains (for the 2003) that are located in the left rear cubby behind the access panel do not have conformal coatings on the electronics pcb's and these components are very susceptible to water damage and corrosion (from even a minimal amount of water ingress). The symptom for water ingress of this nature is that the NAV display in the front cuts in and out and eventually goes dark. The takeaway should be is that if you maintain the vehicle and keep it sealed tight, a lot of the electrical gremlins associated with these vehicles are avoided and at the very least can be traced back to something that is easily fixed. A preemptive fresh bead of silicone in these areas will save you countless hours of mucking about and a lot of money in the long run. That said, I hope this helps another owner out there get the most out of their L322.

In the past I had not given much thought to driving LR or RR vehicles. I had dismissed them as being expensive, boxy, unreliable gas guzzlers. Then I borrowed my father-in-law's 08 LR2 when my car died. I unexpectedly fell in love with the LR2 and bought it from him. Like you said, it may have the reliability of Biden, but the ride is as confident and substantial as Trump.

Hey I also got a range rover for super cheap ($1700) but I noticed that your mpg is noticeably lower compared to what I get driving around town. I get around 18mpg but it might be because I have less stop and go with the routes I take. Edits: I'm still watching through the video but that vibration you're feeling at motorway speeds might be ignition coils. On mine it felt like something in the drive train was occasionally slipping and sometimes it felt like vibration. Although it was occasional I would also get this issue at low speed (around 35mph) in 4th gear. After getting some junkyard coils and replacing cyl 4 and 7 mine has been perfectly smooth.

Keep the L322 content coming. I also have a 4.4 V8 petrol RR and think it is phenomenal car. Always bits a pieces to fix but I love the car. Also bought as a weekend camping/dog/golf trips car. I know exactly what you mean about the L322 Josh, I bought mine for £1400 on eBay about 2yrs back, the guy put it up for £2000 saying it had a gearbox issue so I went on the internet forums found the fault which was transmission failsafe and I offered him £1400 and he accepted. It was in mint condition for a 2004 car. The interior is immaculate. UNFORTUNATELY it's been off the road for a while, I ts on LPG btw. Its on the bumpstops at the moment, I took the compressor out this weekend and the piston bore is badly scored as a small piece of metal embedded itself in the fibre piston ring so I'm currently fixing this.

Range Rovers have the potential to break your heart & wallet… if you’re not prepared. As the owner of a 2002 L322 (TD6) purchased 12 years ago for 13,000 Euros with 230,000km on the clock, here are my 7 Golden Rules: 1. Full Service History 2. Maintain a £3000 cash float for unplanned maintenance 3. Source a reputable independent garage that knows Range Rovers 4. Full breakdown cover including recovery 5. Full anti rust treatment upon purchase and regularly afterwards 6. Fix any issues immediately even if car still runs ok 7. Don’t rely on it as your sole means of essential transport, have a back up Replacement of parts(some pretty costly) are inevitable from time to time, but if you follow these rules it won’t mess up your life, and you can then enjoy this awesome vehicle with peace of mind.

I can fully understand how you feel about your car l remember feeling the same with a M3 BMW at the time it was only 3 years old that’s 7/8 years ago. After two years l sold it that was very top heavy on the fuel so it had to go .

Love these Range Rovers. Scared to buy one because of the possible repair costs. I’m 79 and couldn’t do repairs myself any more. Good luck with yours though.Joel

A lot comments about LPG Wouldn’t bother. Yer it’s cheaper but dammm read all the forums and amount of trouble people have with them. Fact these v8s run hot as it is why bother tempting fate with a lpg For ever filling up when owned my one. But you don’t buy these to worry about mpg, Worth ever Penny you burn when flooring it just for the noise

AWD cars are supposed to have identical tyres - both type and wear - at all 4 corners. The mis-matched tyres may well cause you transmission/transfer case grief - way above the GBP 2,000 purchase price of the car .

Totally understand the need to drive it. I have one and never stop using it however mine is converted to autogas LPG 65p to 74p a litre!!! Also I pay half the road tax Whats not to like - apart from repairs ugh! New fuel pump and new alternator. Buy petrol about every six months!

Run some BG44k thoughthe fuel system with only half a tank. It will I!prove your fuel economy. My rover jumped from 14.1 avg. To currently 17.1. Granted most if not all my driving is highway. But worth a shot. Also, low voltage will cause all types of warnings. Check batt. And alternator. Tires not matching also will affect mpg. A simple balance should rid you of the wabble at any speed. Mines reaches 100 mph like a freight train. Best of luck keep uploading.

Mine had an LPG which defintely took the edge off the fuel consumption, but probably not worth doing nowadays. They are lovely battle cruisers though aren't they. How do you find the aftermarket infotainment, I always wanted to get one of those units because the stock is crap.
@itsjoel

Yeah probably wouldn’t bother. The aftermarket system is pretty woeful actually, although I’ve never seen the original. Can’t seem to reset things like my MPG though as that appears to have been controlled in the OEM system
