Depending on how processed your hair is or how fine your hair is, you may not be able to tolerate single braids. My relaxed hair did fine with single braids. One thing that definitely jumps out at me is that doing braids and wearing them for only 2-3 weeks is not a protective style. The braid installation is a LOT of manipulation, and is only offset by a reasonably long period of having the hair protected in braids for at least 6 weeks. Another point of damage is during the braid takedown if you don't take your time and be gentle.

I was relaxed for YEARS and I’ll be honest my hair went trough some Sh💩t… I only went natural in 2020 but it wasn’t because I hate relaxers I just wanted to know my natural hair 😊. But yeah relaxed hair is not easy, we just have to educate ourselves and find out what the hair likes or doesn’t like 😕
@itsMayama2 жыл бұрын
Do you like being natural? I was natural for a hot minute before getting relaxers again. My hair was very healthy after that, but as it got longer it got harder to take care of. One of my goals for 2022 is learning about my hair, what it likes, what it doesn't like and how to know when it needs protein/moisture.
@Sisima132 жыл бұрын
@@itsMayama Yeah I like it so far because I can wear it curly or I can wear it straight/blow dries if I want to. When I was relaxed my hair could not keep a curl 😅. Maintenance wise Natural hair is a lot of work that I really don’t feel like doing because I still can’t find what my hair likes 😭 if I moisturize it it goes dry after 2 days. So basically all I do is keep my hair in braids or get box braids so I don’t have to do much 😓 I do miss my relaxed hair but I want to keep challenging myself and keep learning more about my natural hair since I’ve only need natural for almost 2 years. I hope your relaxed hair goes back to being healthy again ❤️

First, thank you for your authenticity!! I'm going through the same thing right now! I know what happened initially. I went from a no-lye to a lye relaxer. Big mistake!! I thought I stopped the breakage, but to my surprise, I didn't. It kept breaking on my left side 😪. It's ALWAYS so shocking because on that one particular day it's the most noticeable and there's nothing you can do but start over. I really believe that lye relaxer damaged my hair more than I knew. So, I feel you. Good luck and more hair to you!! Shoot, more hair to me too!! 😎

Lye and no lye are two different chemicals! Where the two relaxers overlap is where you get breakage. It is not recommended to mix types of relaxers on the same head. Lye relaxers are actually easier on the hair.
@limuru00012 жыл бұрын
I switched from no lye to lye and it helped my hair. But I had stretched for awhile and my hair was getting healthy so it was so obvious where my new growth was. THEN… I looked in the mirror, washed my hair (new products) looked down and my hair was just breaking. It took my about two weeks to realize it was split ends that seemed to wake up one day and in two weeks my hair IS a mess. Note…IS… right now. I so feel you, one look in the mirror and it’s too late. And it can be anything. Two years of really starting to actively care for my hair and now here we are… but we will bounce back….

Maybe you should cut your hair. Like 2 inches off by a professional so you get a fresh start. I think getting regular trims afterwards consistently will help combat the breakage and promote hair retention. Also I think the braids are hurting more than they are helping. I've seen that most relaxed people with long hair wear loose buns tucking the ends in. Making sure to not wear the bun in the same spot either.
