I went back to relaxers 5 years ago, after my 3rd failed (& longest) attempt to remain natural. Haven't looked back since. Sometimes I wear my hair in braid-outs or perm rod sets, but it's the ultimate convenience to be able to just air dry my hair for a few hours and pass a straightener over it 1 time and be done. No overnight drying, no gel, no brushing or even combing. I used to worry that being relaxed was a statement that I took issue with my ethnic identity but eventually learned that it's a matter of preference, for me. I don't see it as being any worse or different from a body modification. If anything, it's not as bad as others because you can just chop the relaxed hair off and start fresh if you want to.

I think what people don’t talk about is the fact that natural hair is somehow deemed inconvenient by many ppl that go back relaxed. I think it has a lot to do with ppl not accepting their hair the way it is. For some it’s just simply their hair doesn’t look the way they want it. And natural hair has a mind of its own. It’s very low maintenance if you just let it be itself. You’d comb it once a week if that. It becomes high maintenance when there are expectations for it to be a certain way.

Ill never go back to relaxer I get bored with straight hair fast and miss my curls 🤣 I just get a silk press when I want straight hair. This is just me and my preference, there's nothing wrong with having relaxed hair. It's literally your own personal choice

Yeah right. So why did you write this comment since you're so happy with your natural hair? You don't even wear your hair "natural". Braid outs, wigs etc are not natural. Your natural hair is not straight so why silk press since you like your natural hair so much

Yes but people don’t talk enough of cancer breast because of relaxer (even the good ones) it’s really a things in the black community and people don’t make the link with breast problem and relaxer , i stop a year ago with my twin she had something in the breast a fibroadenoma (not a cancer) and i really hope we will resist 🙏

But like, I can't run my fingers thru it and if I shake my hair it'll get stuck from how thick it is 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I wish I had lose curls. There's probably a product that can help with my issue but yeah. @@autumn_b905 lol you're judging me off of one profile picture on KZbin 😂😂😂 if you looked at my IG or fb, I always wear my hair natrul, curly, braids, twists. I do it all bookie. Don't judge a book by its cover. That picture on my KZbin profile pic is from like 6 months ago. The last time I had a silk press & before that silk press, I think it had been a year-a year & a half.... Wow. Loud and wrong that's embarrassing.

Finally! A South African stylist who understood and executed the assignment perfectly 👌🏽 I recently relaxed my hair (for the first time in a long time) at a salon only to have the stylist practically pluck all my hair out during the blow dry and have it all over the floor which reminded me why I stopped relaxing in the first place 😭 I'm gonna have to learn to do it myself.

My stylist has told me the same. A lot of people in the begining of the pandemic went natural, now Two years later has turn back to relaxed. There's nothing wrong with that!!!! It's just hair, nothing wrong with going back and forth or coloring it, or wearing it long or short....do what you wish 🥰. I found this experience has taught me It's OK to experiment with my hair and not be stuck. I was always afraid to lose length...now I don't even care anymore!!!! Because it grows back, whoooooo knewwwwww 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I was Always taught if you cut it you would die and it will never grow back ever.

Your hair is so beautiful. Personally I won’t go back to relaxers but yoh I had the most beautiful relaxed hair. To the point where some asked me if I wore weave. It was nice long and healthy until grade 12 when it got damaged lol. One thing I like about relaxers is that there is more education on how to relax your hair and take care of it. It won’t be painful like it was growing up.

It’s what you want to do with YOUR tresses. ‼️🤍 SN: My hair was relaxed for years & soft like a newborn babies hair SERIOUSLY! After shampooing with Ions Wellness shampoo from Sally’s Step1: Rinse with really Warm water Step2: Apply coconut oil (generous amount) to soaking wet hair Step3: Apply Ion Wellness Conditioner (generous amount) massage through Step4: Rinse with really cold water (no manipulation! Just a brief rinse) Step5:Blow Dry (Warm Heat) point dryer down your hair shaft toward ends to help close cuticle! Utilize this method with any MOISTURIZING shampoo & conditioner. 🤍

This technique is everything. As someone who has relaxed her own hair in the past it makes absolutely sense. The scalp is sensitive him relaxing the top first is to avoid burning, the reverse is usually for hair that has previously been relaxed and just requires the new growth to be touched up.

Honestly I find this more of a guilt trip if anything so double standards on your part. There is such a thing as technological advancement and all such things as drugs, chemicals, gadgets are a result of the above. I would like to believe you refrigerate your food, microwave it, use soaps, creams, lotions to simplify your life even though you know of all their adverse effects. The same goes for hair chemicals they are meant to simplify your life. If u are having a hard time that is. If u can manage your hair without any need for chemicals good for you who knows you might even live a thousand years but stop guilt tripping those who opt for it. Let people live, let them catch a break. Better yet it's also a style to wear your hair straight let them be. I have seen naturals coloring their hair(also chemicals) don't see nobody guilt tripping them

@@rittahsent8121 Yeah there are technological advancements and stuff. But the main thing is that black women who straighten their hair want to be like white women . If natural hair people dye their hair, they ( for the most part) aren't trying to be like Becky because they just want a different color and there's nothing really white about getting a different color. But black women try everything to get straight white women hair on their head. Most white women nowadays don't try and get an afro, even when they do color their hair.

@@whitedogsblackcats Why so many rules for black women? Why people like you can't let them be free? Other women can do whatever they want with their hair, women from different races always change their hair not only color it, but curly people who are not black straighten their hair (flat iron, keratin treatment, japanese straight etc) and people who have straight hair curl their hair (curling iron, perm rods etc), their community don't harass them constantly like you do, they let them be free. No one tell them that they want to be other people. Stop acting like we all have to think and act the same way, this is not a cult let other people be free to make their own decisions!

@whitedogsblackcats you do realize there are black people with naturally straight hair?? Ethiopian and Somalian black women can have straight hair. It's literally just about preference, our hair doesn't have to be a political statement.

@rittah sent so because people relax their hair that makes them want to be like white women???? 🙄 that is so old a statement. Nobody should make anyone feel bad if this what they want to do. It is a choice not because we want to look like white women

I don’t think it’s always about not accepting one’s hair. Natural hair can actually be time consuming. Not always easily manageable. For me, natural hair is high maintenance 🤣 and not everybody has the means to have their hair done by a professional every single time hence it becomes very time consuming if you add it to other tasks. I felt bad and went natural since 2019 because of the narrative that I don’t appreciate the 4c hair that God has blessed me with 🤣 but I realized that this couldn’t be further from my truth. The reality is, I just don’t have the luxury of time to dedicate to loving on my natural hair even though I would have loved too. Now I’m going back to the perm 🤷🏽‍♀️☺️ if all fails, I’ll chop it off and restart all over

I'm looking to do something different with my hair too. I have a 2 year old and a 9 month old and they keep me too busy to be fooling around with my thick, long natural hair🥴 I was thinking of cutting it into a twa but seeing your video I may try the relaxer route. I love the way your stylist put the relaxer on your ends first then went to the roots last. I've never seen this method, but it totally makes sense since there is a limited amount of time the relaxer should be on the scalp. If I go this route I hope I can find someone who is willing and able to do it right like yours. Thank you for sharing! And yes, please share tips on how to care for your relaxed hair💜

Thank you so much for stopping by, I really appreciate it!! I agree, his methodology is incredible. I’ve never had such a well managed relaxer experience and I wish this for everyone who has ever experienced relaxer anxiety. Hoping you can find someone near you if you do decide to go the relaxer route. A TWA is also quite easy to manage and you can cut and manage it yourself so both options sound great 🌸 will definitely share whatever I find useful!
