Kishimoto did state that he changed Naruto’s artstyle somewhat early on to look more like the anime since he liked the way it looked, as well as making the transition from anime to manga more seamless. And honestly I think it was all for the better. Not to discredit his early art though

To me, Kishimoto's greatest strength will always be his character designs. His skill with backgrounds and battle layouts is unquestionably noteworthy as well, but producing such a large yet visually distinct cast while keeping them cohesive within the overall aesthetic "theme" of colorful streetwear + traditional ninja is and always will be inspiring.

What I love about Naruto art is the proportion of the characters and the way kishi draws clothes, they make them all look extremely dynamic, and while you read it you can actually feel them doing all those crazy actions, I also love the way he draws faces

I always felt that Kishimoto's art style has remained solid from beginning to end of the Naruto manga and has really showcase what an incredible artist he is. With Ikemoto, I wouldn't say that his art is bad, if anything he's really improved compared to how he started in the Brouto manga. But his style just does feel like it's from the Naruto world and that causes some visual dissonance. His art feels like it's straight out of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
@sonicathewerehog1915Ай бұрын
One of the main reasons I struggle with reading Boruto is Ikemoto's art style. After finishing all of Naruto, I started Boruto, and honestly, it was difficult for me because his art style just doesn’t feel right for the Naruto universe. Although it has improved over time, the backgrounds are often empty and bland, and the way he choreographs fights doesn’t do the series justice. Plus, his apparent dislike for background characters or 'stock' characters is frustrating, especially since it means Boruto rarely uses shadow clones-something that could add depth and excitement to the scenes

All i can say the biggest difference between Kishimoto and Ikemoto is their fashion sense. Kishimoto really stick to his streetwear funky ninjagear style but make it fully understandable , personalities sense for his characters to wear them. Also the reason why most of his characters are memorable. For instance , after the timeskip , we see naruto choosing darker color for his outfit making him looks more mature, while Sasuke wear his yukata, with loose obi sash signify he is no longer dependent on Orochimaru anymore. While Ikemoto seems like has a retro, typical plain mindset of fashion at first, but later on he tries to include more modern varieties. But the problem is, most of the time the outfit in boruto doesn't reflect the personalities at all.

It went from a 90s artstyle to a 2000s artstyle. All long-running manga seem to do this. Like how Jojo's went from 80s buff guys to 90s lanky femboys. It's super common for artstyles to change with the trends
@twelfthknightАй бұрын
One of the strangest parts of the transition into Boruto is, well, you can see Ikemoto's fetishes in full display. That's not exactly atypical of manga-ka generally I should say, it's hard to not notice Oda has a type for instance. However, Kishimoto was always pretty reserved in this respect, I'd say of the "Big Three" Naruto is easily the least horny. Ikemoto is considerably less so. You get - for instance - Boruto fans justifying the insane high-heels by pointing out Kishimoto also gave them to Tsunade at points, but it just feels disingenuous if you actually compare the art between the two. Sarada's sexualization also remains really, really weird.
@PrimalIncentiveАй бұрын

@twelfthknightАй бұрын
@@PrimalIncentive The Two Blue Vortex version is stupid. However, Ikemoto's pre-time-skip pubescent Sarada was already bad. Stupid high-heels (because of course), stupidly way-too-short skirt, stupid neck-ribbon accessory, and bandage wrap for her chest? It's less Shinobi attire and more... well, she looks like a prostitute, to be blunt.
@vincentopperman14206 күн бұрын
Ikemoto is inspired by the rise of platform shoes in late 90’s to Y2K, and the current state of Kpop. High heels are very prevalent in these fashion era and seeing as Boruto is a mixture if the 2. Kishimoto had a lot more fan service on display from Naruto’s sexy justsu, obsession with boob size and not to mention Jiraya. Ikemoto is a lot more tame,and honestly it’s just heels Kpop idols and the Y2K generation of Japan whore then and yeah they weren’t the most normal, but it’s just fashion. Idk why y’all old folks are so hung up on this shit, always looking to hate, my generation loves it. .

This video doesn't do a good job of dissecting the art very well, which is kind of sad for a video about art. It's mostly just surface-level takes with no real look into the logic of how the actions are displayed or the choices Kishimoto made to render at any given time. It honestly kind of feels like a recap just going over fights you liked rather than going into detail about why something looks the way it does. Also, the word "messy" is extremely incorrect to describe Kishimoto's art style. Messy implies unclean line art and deformed figures that are hard to read. kishimotos are as you would want to describe it is flat not messy. there's a channel called "forgotten relics" I recommend watching to understand why "this" video does a bad job given forgotten relics channel does an excellent job looking into and covering how artwork in anime looks and why it looks the way it does and works well. the comparison in how it's handled is very apparent.

Odd to say this as a bleach fan...but Kishimoto DOMINATES in motion. Kubo is good at it. But if we take a look at two panels. When white is apinning zangetsu on the hilt. And then contrast in ch.1 of naruto when the guy who tricked naruto into getting the scroll spins his weapon it looks smooth man. But Kishimoto to me had the better art in the beginning then oda/kubo. Although by the end kubo takes the cake with art and style from Kishimoto/oda...

Boruto is a different period and it's okay for it to be drawn differently. I like Naruto's original style, if we notice when Sasuke uses the chidori it generates light. while in shippuden it is flat

I love more Kishimoto's early artwork for unique aesthetics which can arguably lacking in Shippuden sometimes. Again Ikemoto will never be Kishimoto, I think that would be ludicrous for asking him to copy his art-style, they should have let him make his own thing instead of letting milking out of Boruto franchise more. Just let Naruto have it's ending without aliens coming in, since the villains in there aren't that interesting, comparw to Pain, Madara, Orochimaru, and even Itachi where they put more time and effort of making them actually cool and interesting alongside with their of the aura with the art..
