Nike’s shoes and apparel have always exceeded their clubs and balls. Hope they still make those after this….

@@mericksampson3495 I used to be a club pro and i was on staff with nike. they took real good care of us club pro guys as far as equipment, clothing, and accessories go each year. they would send us the pro catalog and we would literally pick out anything we wanted. im talking a whole new bag of clubs every year driver down to putter, shirts, shorts, pants, shoes, rain gear, new staff bags, 20+ gloves, 20+ dozens of balls, etc EVERY YEAR. i first got on staff with them in 2010 at the time when their vr series stuff was just coming out. irons, wedges, and hybrids were always great but the drivers and fairway woods were seriously lacking at that time. when i played in sectional tournaments and stuff like that, i had to hope to god that none of the regional reps would show up at tournaments to make sure we were using all of our nike clothing and equipment (had to use at least 13 nike clubs). needless to say, most of them never did but sometimes they would and i was still using taylormade woods with nike head covers on them LOL. it wasn't until 2013 when they came out with the covert series of equipment that i finally did switch over to the driver and fairway woods because they were truly great. after that when the vapor series stuff came out, it was really on par with the rest of the top industry brands

I've been using Nike clubs since I played for my high school golf team back in 2006-2008. Still keep a set of Victory irons as a backup, but have been using a Vapor driver for years. Tried other newer drivers and just hit the Vapor really really well. Never gave much thought about their golf balls. Always used Callaway Warbirds or Srixons.
@TGGent924 ай бұрын
I stick to Wilson and Callaway. It's because I have been around those brands for as long as I've golfed. My grandfather used them, my great grandfather used them. My dad used and still uses them. it's true about finding a brand that works for you and sticking with them. The equipment industry is just flooded with brands. Even newer brands like Takomo, Indi,KIrkland, and PXG reenforce premium clubs at an affordable price. Other brands like Taylor Made, Ping, Cleveland, Tommy Armour, and Srixon offer similar quality clubs at substantially higher prices. I believe most golfers worry about clubs far more than their actual game. Were as I tending to work on my game, the equipment and apparel will simply serve their intended purpose. I choose the clubs I know will suit me based on the way I play the game of golf. instead of wasting time on too many clubs, brands and apparel. I'd rather put that time into my game and get out on the golf course.

4m in theres a reference to Callaway being part of a push to make golf more affordable to the masses. You might want to check that. Callaway might be an easier brand to get into in 2024, but in the 90s, I remember they were more expensive than everyone else.

I’ve always been curious, why do Brits mispronounce Nike? I notice occasionally in this video Nike (Nigh-Key) slips in, but I hear many Brits leave “key” off the end. You can hear the company owner pronounce his brand name (Nigh-Key). Even the Greek God for which the brand is named after is pronounced Nee-Kay). Still wrong from the way the Brits pronounce it. Why purposely mispronounce? Mostly, I wanna get a legit answer so I poke fun at my Geordie buddy.

Nike could have opened their own foundery in Japan, hired their own world class club makers and had a great product sooner. I have a set of 2014 Pro Combos that are as good as anything out there. I also have a Japanese made VRS Forged Driver that is still as long as anything out even now, but nobody ever heard of it. Nike farted around too much before they started think about the mid-handicappers. They chose aesthetics over functionality. The sad thing is they started coming around right around 2012-14, then the went full funk which did them in.

Nike Golf was 100% dependent on Tiger Woods. If he hadn't been as successful as he had, they likely have been out of the club market within 5 years if they ever joined it. I don't think they're going to comeback into making clubs either. They focus on a younger,. cooler, kind of rebel audience. Taylormade has taken that audience with their white driver heads and red faces drivers. Plus all the DTC manufacturers like Vice golf market this "I'm not the stuffy old golfer" look, which is directly out of Nike's playbook. I don't think there is much room for Nike anymore.
