What Happened To Phat Farm: The Rise And Fall Of Russell Simmons

How many remember Phat Farm clothing? Phat Farm was one of the front runners in a genre at the time known as "urban wear".
Over the years the urban wear label thankfully got shed though, as it laid the groundwork for what streetwear would later become.
But in the proto days of the genre, Phat Farm was one of the main brands to come to mind whenever people thought of rapper related clothing.
Created by Russle Simmions, who today, ehhh, we'll get into that a little bit later. But at the time, Russel had made a name for himself in the music business as one of the pioneers of mainstream rap.
Phat Farm was in the early days, a mainstay brand, they spawned spinoffs and were in just as many locations as brands like Sean John and Fubu
But long before the recent troubles of it's founder, Phat Farm had faded into obscurity. Ever wonder why though? Let's find out.

I appreciate the video, the whole layout and focus is spot on. I wish more people did videos this way. I came across your video in doing some research on a letterman/ bomber style jacket that I came across recently and am finding very hard to find it anywhere online. It's Grey with red leather trim. Tagged Defjam 2000 on front and what had me curious is the nice quality zipper charm marked with the famous "P" on one side and "Phat Farm" on the other side. It's quality. So back to research. Thanks again for the education on the Era. I enjoyed it. Don't know if it helped a bunch yet but it was worth my time.

Def Jam Records co-founder's ex-wifey Kimora Lee Simmons had rocked the Baby Phat brand when she & Russell were married with children; before the messy breakup and divorce. I just remembered three brands: Fubu and Kwame Brown; Kangol lids/caps (worn by a popular and buffed (80's Def Jam) rap artist/actor, LL Cool J). Phat = the equivalent word for it, nowadays, is Thicc (like a dump truck).
