Hi Tsula, I got outside and enjoyed one of the best dark skies I have ever seen last night! Your kind wishes must have worked!!! Your footage of Saturn combined with that music gave me goosebumps!! Can’t wait to get back out there….Thanks so much for your inspiration and informative films. I wish you dark skies, and lots of new equipment for the future…You deserve it

Nice video, and it reminded me of something I saw online recently, about an experiment in a laboratory fluid tank which recreated the strange hexagons seen on Saturn's poles - sure enough, the phenomena is caused the rapid rotation of the planet and its atmosphere.

Thanks. So, what do you think about diamond raining down on Saturn?
@waltergold34573 ай бұрын
@@tsulasbigadventures I think we discussed, a few months ago, the possibility of diamond mountains on Jupiter's "metallic methane" core. An interesting theory, although other scientists have challenged it. According to a Snopes article, there's just as, or even more, likely the possibility that the soot, rather than crystallizing, is held in solution by the liquid hydrocarbons in the middle depths. But who knows? The conditions are extreme and obviously little understood, and there are more things in heaven and earth... 🙂

I cannot forget my own gasps of wonder as I first saw Saturn (and Jupiter and the Pleiades and Andromeda and...) in my 750mm toy reflector telescope. My toy telescope had a plastic focusing mechanism and was assembled into a cardboard tube. A toilet roll telescope! Gosh...that was wonderful. My Celestron 8 does just a bit better job of seeing stuff, but NOTHING is more astonishing than seeing an astronomical body for the first time. Aloha and clear skies to you!
@tsulasbigadventures3 ай бұрын
I'm amazed you saw anything in that carboard/plastic telescope. I will never forget the first time I saw Saturn in a large telescope, the 12" Refractor at the Griffith Observatory in LA. I couldn't believe my eyes. What a joy it is to see these things the first time, I guess even in a toy telescope! Cheers!

@@tsulasbigadventures Now YOUR first Saturn experience experience is far better than mine! I've only visited the Griffith in the daytime to watch their planetarium shows. What is WRONG with me? 😆🤣

Thanks for sharing, Tsula. I overserved Saturn that same evening through an 81mm Vixen refractor. Still a beautiful sight even with the rings close to being edge on. Clear skies!

Saturn was one of the reasons because I was hooked to astronomy since child. My father showed it to me with a small basic refractor and I was very impressed. Now I have a 10 inch dobsonian and good eyepieces and cameras but the rings are disappearing 😢. I guess I will have to wait another 14 years 😅. Still looked at it the 7th of September though, it was a beautiful view as always. Now waiting for the opposition of Jupiter. Greetings from Chile!
@tsulasbigadventures3 ай бұрын
There is nothing like that first time you see Saturn. I think after the rings disappear in 2025 they slowly start reappearing before disappearing again. So, you only have to wait seven years. Greetings to Chile!

@tsulasbigadventures3 ай бұрын
Thank you. They key for that telescope is no wind. Because it's so big and mounted on a fork mount it is very susceptible to wind. But there was little wind that evening. Shame the seeing was so bad.

nice video of Saturn i just took a look last night i went up to 418x and it still looked great i back it down to 300x and it was a tiny bit sharper but smaller but i think that was the view that was better even tho the 418x was still very good. thanks
@tsulasbigadventures3 ай бұрын
Thanks. I looked at it again and the seeing was so awful that I wondered if something was wrong with my telescope. But there was nothing wrong with my telescope; there was just very bad seeing. I looked at the moon and it appeared as if a river were flowing over it. I'm glad you got a good look at it.
@JoeJaguar3 ай бұрын
@@tsulasbigadventures do you think your sky watcher 150 ED has a better image quality than your 12 inch SET on the planets? To me, the refractor is more cleaner. Yes, the bigger scope will be brighter, but I don’t find it to be sharper on the small detail. What is your experience?
@tsulasbigadventures3 ай бұрын
@@JoeJaguar I think it's hard to say because it all depends on the seeing. I will have to set up both on the same night and go back and forth between the two to say for sure. Sounds like another episode!

I was watching Saturn two nights ago, with its rings nearly edge on. I was most surprised by how much satellite "junk" I saw flying across my view of it. Enough to possibly make one think twice about traveling in space.
@tsulasbigadventures3 ай бұрын
Do you mean artificial satellites? That's strange that you saw satellite junk while viewing Saturn. I see way too many satellites on any given night but usually it's when I'm looking with my naked eye.
@markihde43813 ай бұрын
@@tsulasbigadventures Yes, artificial satellites. I wonder how many frames of data astrophotographers have to throw away because of satellite streaks crossing the exposure.
@tsulasbigadventures3 ай бұрын
@@markihde4381 I'm sure it's a lot. It's very disheartening to see so much artificial light in the sky.

What does it mean that it is at opposition until exactly a specific date?

On that specific date it is exactly opposite the sun but if you look at the planet two weeks before or two weeks after opposition you won't notice any difference.
