Also No Daddy is a song that I can't believe they thought was a good idea to release 😒 and think parents would purchase that album. why wasn't Rihanna singing about the struggles she faced in her upbringing ? but Teairra had to sing about having no father around? and I love Rihanna down . but I don't like the image they pushed onto Teairra as if she was some wild girl is absurd if you listen to Rih's MOTS album and Teairra's Album they both have songs called "Lala" however Rihanna's is an upbeat sound even though the songs are singing something similar, but Rihanna's is more age appropriate- and she isn't singing about s e x all throughout the album

I always say this, but Teairra Mari was beyond her time. Not too many female R&B singers were as raw as Teairra, when it came to lyrics. Rhianna came out at a perfect time, especially since Pop music was such a huge genre at the time as well. If Teairra would’ve came out in the late 2010’s or early 2020’s I’m sure she would’ve had a bigger career. Teairra Mari doesn’t get her flowers, since I felt like she paved a way for a lot of current R&B girlies.
@mindyourmanners37846 ай бұрын
I feel like there was some underlying colorism with why she wasn't marketed the way Rihanna was, like why did Teairra have to sing about having " No Daddy "? 🙄 I loved the album, but that song was so stereotypical that it turned a lot of people off from album like you said. Why couldn't she have multiple dance hits and songs that weren't about $3x. I agree with you on her having a ballad that would've been PERFECT for her especially since she had the vocals for it
@DabsDans6 ай бұрын
She was marketed as the around the way hood chick... the song was to grab girls in her sit
@milaakajau8616 ай бұрын
Agreed and the fact that she didn't want to sing those songs and wanted something different explains a lot especially considering the songs she sung after she was dropped from the label, just because someone comes from the hood doesn't mean they want to sing about it all the time and that is what artistry is about but they often put black artist in a box

I didn’t know her grandmother was a background singer for Aretha Franklin 😲. Thank you for doing your research when making these videos and not just reading from Wikipedia like a lot of these other KZbinrs Teairra could sing and had the full package and the song “ No Daddy “ was just a no no because of the lyrics and the image that was pushed onto her it was almost like Rihanna could be the carefree young teen while Teairra was forced to take on the hood girl image because of where she was from and she didn’t want to sing about that as she said

Rihanna didnt have the push from the label like TM. Tierra was more popular during their beginning stages. Rihanna had to use the money made from pon de replay to pay for her own song SOS. Rihanna had WORK ETHIC! She didnt stop working honestly. Thats why we got an album every single year from her up until 2013...
@leiiib6 ай бұрын
Rihanna released an album every year because she wanted out of her contract and to be off the label which is why she hasn’t released much music since then because she hated having to release an album back to back, she was extremely exhausted. She is indeed a hard worker, but again Rihanna was given different songs and no Teairra was more popular with the label not the audience because of the songs they gave her ( which is literally stated in the video ) she wanted to sing love songs and dance but they forced the hood girl image on her because of where she came from. Unlike today parents watched the music their kids listened to and weren’t going to purchase an album with a young girl singing about S3 x and a Dr IG de@l!ng bf or having no father around … songs written by of course … men

@@tamyrah9124 Exactly! I agree with all of this, as someone who loves Rih and purchased every album , went to concerts, tours etc.When she first came on the scene the first 2 albums went gold and back then that was considered a flop, she was given multiple chances to show she had star potential and given the songs ( which play a major part ), image push through media, magazines, commercials, movie cameos (Bring It On) etc. to become the Rihanna we have today. I was 17 when Teairra Mari debuted…same age as her. I feel like I grew up with her at the same time that she was going through so much. She was and still is that girl! So as someone who was around when she first debuted…they should’ve released ‘PHONE BOOTH’ as the second single. They played the song in Atlanta and myself and other teen girls were feeling it. They messed up. They wanted her to go Pop automatically but they should’ve taken the R&B route FIRST. She would’ve been a younger Keyshia Cole. No Daddy was great but it should’ve been the THIRD single. Phone Booth was perfect for older teen girls. Monica had a song called Street Symphony at the age of 16 in the NINETIES. Phone Booth would’ve been fine. Sponsor was such a good song and I remember when she was dropping videos and songs she did a remix to ‘Daddy,s Home’ that was great. I was in college at this time. This is when she was working with Rico Love. I also think she was set up on Love and Hip Hop. After that show her image was NEVER the same. She probably should’ve just joined the love and hip hop New York cast like she was originally supposed to. But…I will say in the early blog days it was reported that she was a party girl. I think it just caught up with her. I’m still rooting for her.

To say Rihanna just got “lucky” invalidates all the hard work she put in. At the end of the day, it was Jay Z and his label that didn’t give Teairra a chance.

I disagree. It was due to beyonce and Jay z that tearra failed. Beyonce saw T as competition and cut her down before she could really pop. She thought Rihanna would fail hence why she told LA to push her instead. She's in the long list of black female singers done dirty by those two. It'll all come out in time. I also think Jay was sleeping with her and Rihanna and somehow liked Rihanna more

She had major competition at the time … it just didn’t pan out . Her presence was lack luster compared to Ciara and Rhianna .

Not true.

I disagree. Her voice and looks are better than both

Ciara can outdance allllll of the girls though 😂

Disagree. She was a better singer and looked better than both of them. Something happened with her and Jay Z and Beyonce in my opinion. I think they slept together and it went sour. Something very sinister went down behind the scenes with her, and I hope it'll all come out one day

Yes I loved her in lottery ticket 🎟 and wanted to see more acting from her as well
