I’m Dutch and the episode actually aired quite often here. It always stood out to me, simply because it had an unfiltered F bomb in it Once I figured out it was banned in the US, I realised the F bomb was uncensored because the American censors simply never had to censor it for broadcast (On Dutch TV we don’t really censor swear words, and the episodes are aired in English with Dutch subtitles)

The line about being too egotistical to adopt is actually spot on in many situations. There are people who have children to "carry on their legacy". Who think not procreating is some kind of failuire and will call you an "evolutionary dead end". The idea of raising a child that isn't borne from their loins is pure madness
@mage1439
@mage1439 8 ай бұрын
It's a massive over-generalization. Yes, those people exist, but they're not the whole stewpot. It's perfectly understandable to, for example, consider the first part of having a newborn part of what they want. There are all kinds of reasons that don't have anything to do with being too egotistical.
@JoseLopez-gi9sf
@JoseLopez-gi9sf 8 ай бұрын
@@mage1439 I would like to know those reason if you care to elaborate because to me I usually saw it as that egotistical. It isn't a bad thing though. Because some people get further in life being that way. I personally see ego as being something that helps people get what they want. And those with less egos not even try or don't even bother and just complain later about regrets.
@Llyrically_llama
@Llyrically_llama 8 ай бұрын
@@JoseLopez-gi9sf adopting can also be terrifying for some people. Imagine that you spend all this time and effort on raising a baby and then a mental or physical predisposition that you couldn't control makes it hell to raise them. Maybe they're crazy. Maybe they have a horrible genetic disorder that you weren't planning on. Maybe they choose to reject you and look for their biological parents when they find out they're adopted. ALL of these horror stories have happened, (to the point that there's horror movies with these plots.) and I don't necessarily think it's selfish to be concerned about them happening. Choosing to take in an unwanted child is more altruistic than having your own, don't get me wrong, but choosing to have your own doesn't have to be completely selfishly motivated either.
@JoseLopez-gi9sf
@JoseLopez-gi9sf 8 ай бұрын
@@Llyrically_llama so what about the many parents that had kids run away from home. Being their biological kids. Or how about the many parents that take care of their down syndrome kids. And still continue to have kids knowing they will continue to have those Children. Personally I don't understand it but I past by a church with a bunch of people crossing the street to attain and so many of them had multiple children like that. And it was many different families. How is the risk of that any different then adopting. If both parents can't have kids it is probably because of a genetic disorder and if they are worried about adopting because of the possibility of genetic disorders wouldn't that be the same thing.
@Llyrically_llama
@Llyrically_llama 8 ай бұрын
@@JoseLopez-gi9sf ideally, it would be completely random people putting their kids up for adoption. But it isn't. Not in the Western world at least. I'm assuming that you're not naive. You know what type of people are much more likely to put their kids up for adoption. The statistics are there. Adopted children are much more likely to have emotional and behavioral issues than biological children. Period. It doesn't make someone a bad person to choose to avoid that very real risk. Like I said before, people who choose to adopt are making the morally better decision. But people that don't aren't necessarily selfish, worse people.

I feel like a better scenario would be Lois being pro-life while Brian, as a boilerplate liberal, tries to gaslight both her and Peter into being pro-choice. It works on Peter which leads to the original scenario but in reverse as this seems pretty out of character for her and Peter. Ending, as they always have to revert to status quo is the baby going up for adoption. Granted it's Family Guy so "LMFAO THE BABBY DIED" would always guranteed be the ending.
@GhostsGraveyard

On the subject of the speech at the end, I can't help but wonder if they had originally planned on adding another kid, but had to change it because if no one sees the episode the random new baby wouldn't make any sense

@@daliborjovanovic510 that’s not what I meant though. I meant they decided to not make the change because if no one watched the episode, they wouldn’t understand WHY the change was made. Or they would have to make up some other explanation for the baby being there.

I'm pro-choice. I think it is down to the woman what she does in her life regarding her body and the fact that some people doesn't understand child raising cost a lot of money from cots to scrollers to clothes to food and more. If a woman isn't ready mentality and finances then she can choose. There are some adults in their 30s not even mature enough to be parents and tragically the child will suffer and there isn't a right decision and the right decision is the choice the woman makes. I will respect the choice of what the woman does with her body.

3:33 fun little aside: Margaret Hamilton was in the same nursing home as my great great aunt in Sonoma, California back in like the early 1960's and the building that was a nursing home then is now a fancy resort surrounded by wineries. It's actually pretty interesting to hear about TV shows and movies making stuff that addresses ending a pregnancy and the couple still staying together. Like the movie Knocked Up (and to some extent Juno) pissed me off for their oddly pro-life messages while positive pro-choice media was pretty underrepresented.

I first heard about this episode on a stream. The streamer didn't really watch Family Guy usually, but he did when he was in a hotel and he was weirded out by it. (Something about Quagmire pimping Peter out? Or the other way around? I don't remember.) That somehow turned into a discussion about this episode. Seeing that pimping episode the streamer was like "Oh god. How did they handle the topic of abortion?" and people in the chat who saw it said that it turned out surprisingly well. He was surprised, I was surprised, and a lot of other people were surprised. After that stream I forgot about the episode completely, until now.

- I think "Mid-Life Crustacean" still airs, but with the Panty Raid scene cut, unless things have changed. - "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" also caught controversy with Disney, who accused the show's writing staff of plagiarizing the tune of "When You Wish Upon a Star", but I think they ultimately dropped the lawsuit because parody is fair use.

I was so hyped after she built up how secret this episode was. Then she revealed the first clip. Bruh, I've seen this episode. It aired on tv before that's how I saw it. I'm a little disappointed now, not gonna lie

I did like the joke about the parents are waiting for their child in the after life so just ship the kid to them. Mittens left behind so you send them back.

Meg giving birth to Stewie ? Who was Lois really trying to trick here. Lois can barely understand Stewie and Meg was 15 when Stewie was born, so she would've remembered

I think adopting should’ve been talked about a bit as there are many bad issues I listen to a lot of Reddit stories and there’s lots where as soon as become adults many cut off the families who raised them or treat them awfully or where the bio parents expect that their child should ditch the adoptive family as they want them back now all the work of child raising has been done. Stories like: The OP had a cousin who was adopted into the family once she became 18 she became horrid to the adoptive family including saying they stole her expected money to help the bio family. They were at family gathering and OP and her husband are going to try IVF the cousin then had the nerve to ask why not adopt and was disgusted when op said “I’d hate to raise someone and them become and nasty ungrateful brat like you” Another one OP was adoptive mother once they raised her laid for education in college she found her bio family then slowly cut adoptive family off while constantly posting about how great her bio parents were then had the nerve to expect the adoptive family to pay for wedding and then her bio mothers surgery. One where the OP who is 16 was adopted after being dumped with birth certificate her adoptive family is lovely and she’s treat the same as her brothers the family’s bio sons, but then even though was closed adoption they’d used PI to find her and pestered to meet they said they were unmarried Mormons and now they’re ready to take her back so come on, then seems shocked OP wants nothing to do with them. An OP who is a girl in the UK she’s Chinese she was adopted and has come to Reddit asking for help as her adoptive family haven’t been able to give her a definitive answer to her question, she did an ancestor DNA for medical reasons as she was dumped as a baby in an alleyway, she found out she has about 5 sisters all adopted, well they have a brother who’s contacted all them he was kept as the extended family wouldn’t support the parents if they had a girl only a boy, know 20 + years later they’re independent and want to meet all the daughters they dumped without care. OP is adamant no but the sisters she’s found want to meet and have relationship with their parents.

I remember that last story. I think Mark Narrations covered it. People are just disgusting. My dream has always been to have a big a*s family of 6 children. 4 bio and 2 adopted. And I would want to adopt my 2 non-bio kids together at the same time so that even if one of them or both of them had trouble adjusting to their new life and/or had a hard time connecting with us, at least the 2 of them would have each other. They're both in the exact same situation and so both know exactly what the other one is going through and can support each other way better than anyone else can. All of that in my own perfect world of course, in the best case scenario of everything going great. But no matter what the situation, if I ever adopted a child I would be scared to death of losing them every day. I'm determined to be the best mother I can be and will be scared to death of not being good enough for my child bio or not. But somehow not being good enough for an adopted child that I CHOSE to BRING INTO my home and family to raise and love and because of that, them running off with their bio family to never see me or care about me again would just gut me. My bio kids would be a lot more stuck with me because I would never abandon them and it would be a lot harder for them to just cut me off completely. But an adoptive kid can either leave you or be taken away from you at the snap of a finger. And that is terrifying.
