Ras Al ghoul was the biggest missed opportunity for this show. For such a martial artist and action based show, he would’ve been perfect. But I’m glad for a show that’s hit its 20th anniversary, it’s getting so much love. The designs are sick and it genuinely has some incredible eps.

Yeah I gotta admit Scarecrow was pretty disappointing in the Nolan movies, he's one of my favorite DC villains but it felt like they wasted the characters' potential and Cillian Murphy's fantastic talent as an actor

Yeah it’s a shame that Scarecrow didn’t get much relevance in the Dark Knight film trilogy and Hatter was dropped all together. Especially since there some of my favourite antagonists. Though at least there portrayals & the actors who voiced them in the 4 Arkham games were pretty solid in my opinion. And I will also say that when the Dark Knight film trilogy & the Arkham games first arrived to folks everywhere during the 2000's it was a great time to be a Batman fan that's for certain.

My only real complaint about the show was the fact Detective Yin was dropped completely after season 2 and the introduction of Comissioner Gordon. There were hints of a blossoming closeness between her and Bruce and it would have been interesting to see if a romance could happen and how it would affect her partnership with Batman.

As stupid as the Bat-Embargo is, I think using Hugo Strange for the zombie episode over Scarecrow was the right call. Scarecrow would have made the twist way too obvious, and it still works because in the comics Hugo Strange used a version of fear toxin years before Scarecrow was ever introduced.

Easily the most underrated animated Batman. What's especially interesting is that most Bat-media that came after integrated a bunch of ideas from it: e.g. Penguin's feud with the Waynes, solidifying Bane's normal-to-big transformation with the Venom, etc. Also, I couldn't help noticing that the Dracula design was oddly similar to Ra's Al-Ghul's classic appearance. Obviously, we can't prove it, but I like to think they wanted to use him somehow, but got creative with what had. 😂

Apparently the team that worked on the tie-in comic, The Batman Strikes!, intended for the comic to keep running even after the show ended, with plans to introduce the universe's versions of Bizarro, Wonder Woman, and even Owlman and the Crime Syndicate from Earth-3, but not long after the show ended the comic was also, of course, ended.

Ras al Ghul was Originally planned to appear in the justice league unlimited episode wake the dead where he was Originally supposed to be the one who resurrects Solomon Grundy but thanks to the bat embargo it couldn't happen it would've been much better than Grundy being accidently resurrected by teens

That Bat-embargo seems like the worst anti-marketing decision ever. The cross-pollination of exposure would've only helped, and the embargo implies that audiences are too stupid to understand that the same character won't be the same from movie versus a TV show. Also a total loss anytime the Mad Hatter does not get utilized. Mind Control would make such a great premise.

DC TV animation was really in it’s prime during the 2000s. So many animated series with a variety of tones. Imagining some of them sharing continuity is also really fun. Kind of sad how most of the animated series now are adult oriented.

DC really was in an animation golden age during the late 90s and the 2000s, it's crazy to think all the great shows and movies they released during that time. Also, I completely agree with you in that there should be more animated series appropriate for all ages, I think that cartoons are the best way for kids yo get into comics, so both Marvel and DC should really understand the value of making shows that everyone can enjoy and could potentially create them new lifelong fans.

Fun fact: Designer Thomas Perkins created a design of Mr. Zsasz, who was supposed to a cameo in The Batman vs. Dracula Arkham scene, but it didn't go through and he lost the design to time. You can still spot Calendar Man in the movie's opening battle.

This show is finally starting to see a resurgence and was officially acknowledged by official DC Comics Art for the first time in like 20 years. And was last acknowledged in silhouette in Teen Titans Go Vs Teen Titans. I'm so happy The Batman is getting it's time under the sun finally. This is the show that introduced the mythos and character to me, and it's quality has stood the test of time. The acting, animation, designs, aesthetic, music, etc i love it all. I'd love to see a proper recognition of the show at some point soon. Its not easy to follow BTAS. Rino Romano is a GOAT Batman and Spider-Man. The clock king episode was amazing honestly.

I LOVED this new BATMAN animated series,bought the entire season series when they came out on dvds.I also liked the teams-up with other JL members during it's run,no other Batman cartoon shows did this.And the intro music for the first season was-GOLDEN-too.I remember in a behind the scenes interview by one of the show-runners,he said SUPERMAN was an alien pretending to be-HUMAN-and i never forgot that quote.

Detective Yin was a great character, but she basically disappeared after Season 2 as Commissioner Gordon showed up and Batgirl became more prominent. I get that her roles were basically redundant by that point, but she still deserved better than to be Chuck Cunninghammed with no explanation. Well, at least they didn't kill her off.

Yh I agree. She was a great original character but her character just served her purpose and there wasn't really anywhere else they could take it She was a key part of the clayface story arc and showed a lot of growth when she chose to trust batman and team up with him. However from that point on, Batman didn't need her anymore as Gordon becomes his ally from the GCPD, and Batgirl as well as Robin then become his sidekicks I remember in the finale of S2, yin tries to go with batman as his "partner" to take on joker, riddler and penguin, but batman shuts her down because she's not his "sidekick". Considering in the very next episode, barbara is introduced while yin is written out, its clear that they never intended on making room for yin moving forward as the show was now upping the stakes. It would've been nice having her show up now and again to team up with the batfam, but the writers were always going to prioritise Commissioner gordon and batgirl (as well as robin later on), so it would've been harder to write her in

I love this Batman series. I grew up with BTAS and Batman Beyond, but I accepted this series right from the get-go. I knew it was going to be its own thing and I really loved the artstyle. Sure, there were some things I didn’t like such as Mr. Freeze not being the tragic villain saving his wife. But I really love the designs and thought they were great. Even the movie was amazing and I thought it was so scary it was good especially with Vampire Joker. Not being able to use all of the rogue gallery because of some Embargo is stupid. Which is also one of the reasons I couldn’t get into Beware the Batman. I was willing to try with the CGI, but I didn’t like Alfred in that series or how Harvey Dent was characterized. And while it’s neat to see other obscure Batman villains, not being some of the classic backs sucked like Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc. Sure having no Joker was a bold move would’ve been nice to have in like Season 3 or so. But back to The Batman, I love the first theme more but I’ve come to appreciate the second theme over time. I really need to get this series on DVD. EDIT: Oh, apparently Killer Croc was in Beware the Batman. It's been so long I forgot mostly everything about it.

Fun fact that I learned later on when I got more into comic books. This series was actually spot on with how old Bruce was when he became Batman. He is 26 years old in his 3rd year meaning he would have been 23 when he started. I thought that was ridiculously young and that they were simply trying to appeal to a younger audience, however upon getting to read the original comics from the late 30's early 40's it depicts him losing his parents at age 8 and then says for 15 years he puts himself through extensive training ending in become the Batman. I thought that was really cool. Had no idea Batman was so young and it was dope to see him at this age.

While it was great to have Hugo Strange use the fear toxin, (wich is accurate to his first appearance in the comics) and okay to have Cayface substitue two face as theformer friend of Bruce who fell into villany; i still think that Scarecrow and Mad Hatter deserved to appear in this serie. Sure the show had a bit of continuity problem and overused sone villains but im sure they would have pulled off some real nice episodes for these two.

I think something else that makes the Batman feel like a prequel to Teen Titans is a reference to a "Justice League: Teen Division". I mean, seriously, you could watch the Batman, and that line perfectly leads into Teen Titans. Like you could watch 1 and then the other.

I completely agree, it's nice that they considered using Wonder Woman on the show but if she wasn't available then they still should've adapted at least 1 female superhero, characters like Vixen and Black Canary would've looked really cool in the shows' style

I enjoyed the show, as well as the Teen Titans, (Not the TTGO variation) as well as the 2003 TMNT. It's rare to find people who actually enjoyed The Batman, Teen Titans and the 2003 TMNT. Nowadays it's just TTGO and whatever current version of TMNT is animated.

The Batman was perfect for what it was. Yes, The Animated Series will always be more important and closer to what is traditionally expected from Batman, but The Batman still works as a modern and more hip take on classic Batman stories like those seen in the Adam West Batman show which is exactly what the season 3 intro is paying homage to and fits the series' tone so much better. As much as I really enjoyed this iteration of Batman, it does do quite a lot of questionable things with its character portrayals that weirdly aren't deal breakers and somehow work extremely well within the context of the show but I personally wouldn't want to see done ever again. Probably a good thing too that the show went really deep on lesser explored villains that most viewers weren't really familiar with at the time.

The Batman is a counterpoint to Batman The Animated Series. While the animation of the 90s highlighted Two-Face, Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, The Batman wanted to highlight other villains less prominent in the animation of the 90s, such as Riddler, Killer Croc, Hugo Strange, Mr Freeze, Firefly etc... Because the producers of The Batman wanted to get as far away from the Batman 90's Animated Series as possible.

Something that doesn't get mentioned about this series is the choice to make Poison Ivy a friend of Barbara Gordon's. I'm not particularly against it but it's definitely something different. Also the theme tune for season 1 and 2 was composed by The Edge, guitarist for the band U2.

Fun Fact: Ellen Yin technically isn’t a new character. She’s an adaption of Ellen Yindel from The Dark Knight Returns. Much like her inspiration Yin had an anti Batman stance and was Gordon’s successor but unlike Yindel, Yin learned to respect and work with Batman before becoming Commissioner not during her time as Commissioner

As a 90s kid of course I didn’t accept The Batman animated series at first. Same with the TNMT 2003 animated series. But when I did finally watch the series I really enjoy it. I love the more edgy anime style and loved a lot of the new character designs. However, I personally hated The Joker voice and design. Batman Vs Dracula was an awesome movie. And yeah with you, I would love more The Batman animated movies.

The Batman had amazing visuals, interesting character designs and spectacular action scenes. But, it was light on substance and heavy on style. However, the Batman vs. Dracula OAV is terribly underrated and stands as one of the best Batman OAV’s.

Growing up, this was my Batman. We had VHS tapes/DVD's of BTAS, but I was born after the series ended, so this was my primetime Batman fix. This show was very creative and you could tell how much of the team behind it were fans. It's a shame it never truly got it's true respect until now, it's hard to follow up BTAS. I remember hearing somewhere that Detective Yin was inspired by Yindel, Gordon's successor as the GCPD Commissioner from The Dark Knight Returns, who was similarly opposed to Batman's operations when she was first introduced. This reference went even further in the Dark Knight Returns inspired episode of The Batman where over a broadcast it's mentioned that Yin had been promoted to commissioner after Gordon retired.

My favorite Batman series! Greta to see that peopel are giving it the love it deserves, as well as recognize its faults. I am still pissed Yin and Ethan were basically cut out completely after season 2, instead of integrated in an organic way alongside the new sidekicks and other heroes. hwck, they could've taken hero mantles of their own if developed correctly, asit was honestly clear that the police depended heavily on them for actual work.

Great show it was the unofficial prequel to Batman the animated series The only thing I would have done differently is the batsuit. This should have been the blueprint for how to make a Batman into a movie. You don't need to focus on him being The Worlds Greatest Detective or The Dark Knight, you just got to focus on making him The Batman. Their characters were different but they all work for this universe but they even elevated the metahuman villains to be more than just superpowered monsters, and maybe I'm biased because the Joker of this series was my favorite part but I think they did the best but different interpretation of each Villan.

This was my favorite show growing up. I made very detailed figurines of Batman, Catwoman and Joker with what I had available -repainting tiny dolls, sculpting new heads in melted plastic, making tiny outfits as close to the cartoon as possible -very rudimentary stuff. They're still kinda cute if I may say so. I loved playing with them as a kid and drawing scenes from the show. Good times.

I really loved The Batman. While it didn't have the fame that Batman The Animated Series had, some characters and plotlines I thought were handled significantly better than in BTAS. Characters like Catwoman, Hugo Strange, Batgirl, Killer Croc and surprisingly Firefly I thought were handled in a vastly superior way than in the DCAU. Also the Riddler voiced by Robert Englund was a standout. It also had one of the most unique depictions of Clayface ever.

It’s certainly true that BTAS was my first Batman cartoon growing up but this series was amazing and it made me excited every weekend for new episodes and adventures. I definitely think it would’ve also benefited from some different ideas though including using its’ new characters more. Templar a villain who can create earthquakes seems to me like a villain that could’ve been in more than just one episode and detective yen could have made a great love interest for Batman and maybe create a dramatic romantic story arc. Plus if they introduced the girl who was in love with Firefly in an earlier episode with him then she could’ve had a more interesting and compelling storyline instead of only being in that one episode in the fourth season. I love all those characters but I think they had a lot potential then what we got on screen .
