Those Fiat Twin-cams are fantastic engines - here in the UK the three engines used in hotrods the most are: the small-block Chevy, the Rover V8, and the Fiat Twin-Cam. The latter of the three is always a bit of an oddball choice (no replacement for displacement) but it's such a glorious design, ahead of its time and could be tuned to produce big bhp/litre. Your friend sounded like he was actually somewhat traumatised by the abuse this engine had seen; your friend is a good man and I hope he sees it run as it should do.

I fitted a Lancia Beta coupé 2L twin-cam to a Lada Combi estate, without mods as it came out of the Lancia. There weren't many other cars that could out drag me.

I actually built a 2000cc Fiat Twin Cam Lada in the late eighties/early nighties. It was my brothers car and such a sleeper, very quick and so much fun. I also put one in an Escort, and I still have a Mini with one in the rear - engine and box from a Lacia Beta, one day I will finish it.

I told Morgan cars about how good the Fiat twin-cam engine was, and they fitted a few, but Fiat got greedy and overcharged for the privilege.

Morgan's official line was the supply of 5-speed gearboxes 'dried up' as I recall. Maybe FIAT got p*ssed off with them?

In Finland, TC engines are tuned at its peak. 2050cc. freewheeling motor. measured for power 255Hp from the rear wheel. with two motorcycle carburettors.

@@sergioandrada922 my friend's car only has 2 carburetors due to the rules. Mikuni Lätt slid 48mm. But it has an elevated suction channel. The top is lifted under the cam cases. It has almost 16mm. Lifting on camshaft. Enlarged lifting cups and exhaust set with 3 different sizes. The gingival channel is also raised from the lower surface and is relatively narrow. Due to the high compression in the mixture part of the E85 fuel. Good luck with the project ..

@@ekamatti66 , ok, entiendo, puertos (conductos) elevados, estrechos para mayor velocidad de flujo laminar, tal vez turbulento al ingresar a las cámaras de combustión, algo similar a lo que diseñó Lampredi con el SOHC ( acá es muy popular el Tipo 1.6 engine to 1.9 with crankshaft 78mm displacement). También, en categorías de turismo, era muy común reducir la sección de admisión con un tubo en interior de los ports . Ví hace tiempo un vídeo de un país nórdico donde un mecánico transformaba los puertos de un twin cam Lampredi y le había hecho el piso plano (D ports) Muchas gracias. Ah, las vacunas covid son veneno y, en su mayoría, contienen grafeno como conductor de señales. América se levantará y también América Latina.

Dude it. You can get more that 2050cc, 2.137cc using 87mm pistons (90mm stroke) from VW Beetle as cheap mod, stroking it to 2.3 liter, but with 2050cc get near 285HP at crank in N/A.....This power levels are with 16V heads from Tipo, Delta, Coupé.......Or that dyno gives free HP, as the engine revs.

Thats a shame about the twin cam engine. You could rebuild the lada engine they quite stong and put a pair of old skool side draught twin carbs on it . That will make it shift and sound nice too.

Hola, y yo soy de San Justo, Bs As, y tengo un motor y caja de un Tempra oro '93 (2000 8 válvulas igu6al Regatta 2000, Lancia Croma y Dedra, etc) q chocó a fines 1997 con 100000 km, algunos trabajos en conductos y cámaras, un carburador solex de Sierra SX nuevo para hacerlo 36mm y no sé en q colocarlo. Pensaba en algún 147 o 128 o Regatta tmb, ya q va inclinado 20° como los motores tipo y la caja para motor transversal. Vos pusiste uno de 125, verdad?? Xq el Opel es tracción trasera, hasta q aparecieron los Corsa a principios de los 80s. Saludos.

I have 2 lada’s and about 10 variations of these fiat engines. The fiat engines are far superior to the Lada. Guy Croft has written books about tuning them which have some really good info.

Can you please measure the cylinder spacing on it? If it proves to be anything other than 95mm, that means Lada engine isn't Italian. The Russians didn't like the 124's original OHV engine and that's where the story splits: 1. The Italians put an OHC head on the 124 engine. or 2. The Russians redesigned the whole engine.

stick with the lada engine heads cams crankshaft and pistons enough to make it a 1.8 with better performance than a fiat engine and half the cost spent 600 euro in it for a super charger kit and you will get a 50% increase in power and a shitload of torq

Debatable, the 1.8 Lada engine is doable but it's let down is the ports, their breathing ability and the block. I had a Lada 1.6 block sonic tested and it was found the bore wall thickness varied a lot and was all over the place, minimum thickness was 3mm, I wanted to rebore the block 1mm. Probably better off going with a Lada 1.7 block if an 1.8 engine is to be built. Personally would go with the 1.8 Fiat engine, has the revs of the 1.6 and the torque of the 2ltr Fiat engines, the engine will bolt right in and mount to the trans. The Fiat engine also bolts into the Niva but oil pan needs remade, incidentally, the Fiat 1.9 diesel also bolts right into a Niva but again oil pan needs to be remade as well as the turbo manifold if fitted. If Shawn wants to extend the gear linkage then he should just try to find a Fiat gearbox, both the 'ZF' type and 124 type come with an extended gear linkage. The 'ZF' type being the stronger box and has steel syncros vs the 124's brass.
