What Happened to the Lafayette Square Mall

Even though the Lafayette Square Mall sits almost 75% empty, it somehow survives in a zombie like state. Are there any clues in the history of the mall that give us an insight to its future?

The reason for the mall’s decline was the loss of manufacturing jobs in Indianapolis and crime increased in the immediate area surrounding the mall.

I've read that the current owner is trying to get rid of it as well. The mall is done they might have a couple of national tenants in there but that's still not enough to save it...put it out of its misery

Maybe it’ll pick up speed and do better. Also there are other uses for the structure even if it weren’t a mall.

I think the demographics changed. Same as what happened to Washington Square mall. Circle Centre Mall and Metropolis mall did not destroy Lafayette Square. Castleton Square is beginning to change. They used to have Popcornopolis there now it's gone. DEMOGRAPHICS!!!

to be COMPLETELY honest i did do and will EQUALLY really really LOVE lafayette square mall the nearby wal mart west 38th target where i made the RIGHT choice to grocery shop FOR SURE keystone at the crossing metropolis and you tube ALMOST as much washington square greenwood park circle centre and castleton square malls

That really sucked I grew up goin here. Seen Home Alone 2 when it came out.. it was the people gangs that used to hang out there. There were fights i remember

It's very easy to figure out what happened to Lafayette Square mall. The demographics changed. And I'll let you figure that one out for yourself. We live in a time when the obvious answers are unpopular to say out loud.

On-line shopping wrecked retail. I'd drive in from Crawfordsville to shop there in the 70s/early 80s.
