A simple but very important part of history that should not be lost, thank you for covering this topic. When most of us think of history, we think of when a war started, or when an empire was founded, or when an influential movement began; this seemingly small, inconsequential event is actually very important to this man and his family, and that is history that must not be forgotten.

+Alexia Scheidt Well, the Britannic didn't have really any civilians on it when it sank, and the amount of casualties was a LOT lower (pretty much just the people who got chopped up in the 2 life boats that got eaten by the propeller), also, even if people didn't make it to the life boats, the water was a LOT warmer than the North Atlantic, and there was land nearby in the visible range, so not getting a lifeboat wasn't certain death. The real thing about the Britannic is that it sank by hitting an enemy mine. However, apparently, it was "accidental", aka the mine was just set up, not aiming for any specific ship. So it was almost like a man place iceberg in effect.

His grandson is Haruomi Hosono, one of the greatest musicians in the history of Japanese pop music, and a pioneer of musical genres like synthpop, techno, J-rock and city pop. I'd highly recommend listening to Haruomi Hosono's "Sports Men" (1982), which is an excellent song, with a great melody, catchy beats, and touching lyrics (which sounds like references to his grandfather).

The irony is rich that I can't even look at it anymore! "You are a coward because you refused to survive the sinking and we heard rumors that you screwed over people who wanted to head into the lifeboat." - And let's face it, there is not a single person that wouldn't have the thought (even if they do go down with the ship) determined to escape. Let's put YOU on the ship - We'll see if it is justified to brand an innocent person that was determined to survive due to his personal instinct.

And the hypocrites would then say “uH nO i WoUlD gO dOwN wItH dIgNiTy!” These type of bafoons doesn’t know the reasons of the men who went down willingly. Capt. Smith knew he has to go down because he knows the Captain’s tradition to go down and accepts it. Thomas andrews felt guilt and felt he had to go down with it. The engineers went down because they wanted a rescuing ship to see Titanic’s lights for the passengers in the life boats to embark on and anyone who is lost within the ship can see their path and to keep the pumps running in hopes it would create enough time for the passengers to be saved before they can save themselves. The people who went down had a reason to went down and not because they wanted to be praised like heroes, something the hypocrites completely ignores.

The origin of the criticism of Mr. Hosono comes from the book “The Loss of the Titanic” by Lawrence Beasley, who himself was a survivor, in his book Mr. Beasley talks about a “unpleasant Japanese man who pushed others away from the life boats ” this seems to be where the rumor of Mr. Hasono’s reported cowardly actions originated but Mr. Hasono and Mr. Beasley did not share life boats, Mr. Hasono was in life boat 10 while Mr. Beasley was in life boat 13.

I understand letting children on the lifeboats first but why do women get to go in before men? THATS NOT GENDER EQUALITY!!!!!
@TimberlakeTigerGirl
@TimberlakeTigerGirl 6 жыл бұрын
Spectral Robot This was back before women had rights. In those times, women were seen as fragile creatures that could never endure what men could. In the freezing water, the women were believed to perish long before the men. Today is different, but in those days, it was considered dishonorable for men to save themselves before women and children. It wasn't just this Japanese guy, lots of wealthy white men lost social status after it was revealed they allowed women and children to perish. This is how I think evacuations should be done: children and PREGNANT women first (for the unborn baby), the elderly and ill/disabled next, then all able bodied men and women last.

He was the grandfather of Japanese musician/film scorer Haruomi Hosono, Apparently Haruomi spent a lot of money trying to restore the family name, not just publishing the diary but also letters.
@vegabondgloria288
@vegabondgloria288 6 жыл бұрын
I think what's also important to remember is that Hosono was married and had children. As he witnessed four lifeboats launching, he was apparently "deep in desolate thought that I would no more be able to see my beloved wife and children, since there was no alternative for me than to share the same destiny as the Titanic." He could have chosen to stay aboard and die or get into one of the lifeboats, survive, and be reunited with his family. His story is not much different than that of J. Bruce Ismay, chairman and managing director of the White Star Line, who also survived the sinking; they were both criticized and called cowards by the media due to social norms at the time.

Dishonored just because he was one of many who survived the disaster? If you study the Titanic, you'll learn that a lot of the reason many people didn't make it was because of the crew and their policies. For one thing, there was a crewmember who wouldn't allow men into the boats, period, and many lower-class passengers were cordoned off to be kept away from the boats. Another thing is that the boats could hold twice as many people as were actually put in, but the crew only filled them to half-capacity, which meant that many people who could've gotten safely off the ship were left to die- even worse when you realize that the Titanic had more than the usual number of boats! This man should not have been dishonored just because he was one of the lucky few who made it off the ship. The true dishonor in this disaster goes to us as a race, for we are too quick and harsh to judge others based on class, race, and status, as well as for surviving something we bragged about saying it was "unsinkable"
