That “French pig” line will always be one of the most brutal jabs Gordon has done to me. You could tell that was from the heart
@tylertheguy31609 ай бұрын
Honestly if I was Gordon after seeing how disgusting and potentially hazardous this place was I wouldn't even want to save it. Someone who lets a restaurant get to this point just shouldn't be trusted with food ever again.

@@timthegemThis actually came out the same year as the iPhone, 2007. Also, there is a difference between a nice big meal that starts with an amuse-bouche and aperitif and ends with a rich desert and digestif, and what was being done there. That chef couldn’t even get the lunch crowd through his restaurant quick enough for them to want to go there to begin with, let alone, for dinner.

no to be honest, sometimes ramsey and these repair shows mess up. The aesthetic goal of this resteraunt was to capture the feeling of walking into an elegant french persons house. And I have been into many resteraunts that capture that goal perfectly with great food. I feel when doing the renovations their should be a bigger effort to keep the orignal goal of the resteraunt. Other than that i was purely on chef ramseys side this episode

Look, I'm under no illusions restaurants that go on this show are not in need of huge overhauls. But the reason they get a lot of business in the episode isn't because it's a Saturday or the menu has improved. It's because the production puts out word that Gordon's doing a thing for the TV show and they want people to come.
@Abedeuss8 ай бұрын
Obviously. That's why sometimes Gordon comes back to check back on the stores, at least those that survived for a while after he had left.

True, they also eat for free x
@SeanBordelon5 ай бұрын
Most of the time it seems that they get on the show for a boost in guests and popularity, get renovations, brand new pos systems, kitchenware, appliances, etc just to sell their restaurant at a much higher value without any real intention on staying in business. I sincerely believe that is what most of them do.

to be fair, doesn't the show itself say the fact that gordon is there is the reason the restaurant is busy? like it isn't some big secret of the production, or something

I don't get why so many of the owners bother asking for help just to immediately be like "nah, literally nothing I'm doing could possibly be the problem"
@shadenox81643 ай бұрын
Some of them literally expect Gordon to tell them its not their fault. Amy for example was genuinely just trying to get him to validate her5 and lost interest the second it was clear he wasn't going to do that.

I grew up in and trained in hospitality in Ireland. I spent over 30 years in the business. It was not until I had the privilage of living with and socialising wth mainly French but also Spanish, Morrocan and ither cultures that I truly learned about food and more importantly how to enjoy it. Slow and over time with good company is the ony way to enjoy it. The french are so proud of their food and correctly have an understandable arrogance about it. They truly care. The traditional french cuisine is not about flair or panache. It is about the people and the atmosphere with food at it's centre. Modern society has speed at it's centre which destroys the experience. IMHO. It is about relaxing over an evening with good food and most importantly, good company! I will always love these people for what the taught me.
@heb4306 ай бұрын
I dont think modern society has the intent on wanting things so fast. Previous generations had it easier with time. Today it is time management that is essential to get all things done in life in a timely manner- both work and life. Almost everyone is on a pedestal and that is unfortunate. I wish governments and businesses could take a page out of your experience and give humanity more time to enjoy themselves.

Gordon tried the whole time to make him realize that Americans don't want the same dining experience than the French do. This was also the time frame when the industry was just about to drastically change to the direction of fresh food with high quality and more healthy ingredients, and Gordon knew this would happen well ahead of the curve. Gordon was trying to set him up with a long term outlook but he didn't listen and I doubt he never paid his accrued debt until he sold the restaurant. Had he listened, he would have been pulling in between $1 million and $1.4 million a year, with a gross profit of around $600k to $740k.
