What happened to the Sharing Economy in San Francisco?

We talk about the changes in the sharing economy in San Francisco over the past 12 years. I used to be heavily involved in the sharing economy, working for companies like Uber, Postmates, Caviar, and TaskRabbit. At the height of the market a few years before the pandemic, San Francisco was a booming city with lots of people and companies moving in. But now in 2024, the city looks vastly different - there's less foot traffic and car traffic, and major events and tech conferences have been pulling out of the city. This has had a big impact on the sharing economy, as the city's economy goes, so goes the sharing economy.

RiP Caviar 🙏🏽 You're right, the sharing economy has been hit majorly over the years. When I first moved to SF, I could make $200+ just during lunch rush. Now everyone is broke and everything is closed as a result. I got laid off form my Big Boy job last year and tried doing Uber Eats again and it was absolutely dead out. There are so many more couriers on the apps now and fewer orders being placed. You can waste hours riding around and not get any pings for deliveries. I've had availability on Taskrabbit for months and no requests, even after lowering my rates dramaticall. People just aren't spending like that anymore. If they are working, they're holding onto their money. Last thing, I started doing deliveries back when I was living in LA, after discovering your videos. It was a nightmare and was so dangerous. Cars almost took me out on a number of occasions. When I moved to SF, I was blown away by how easy to survive on bike deliveries WAS. I eventually tried other gig apps, was able to thrive for a while when it was good. Retroactive Thank You for making videos about your experience working in the sharing economy 🙏🏽

You can see what's happening to our city. They literally pushing the original indigenous people out of San Francisco, next will be out the state. It's crazy.... To bad we don't practice group economics, and buy back our blocks and communities. Peace Peace ✌️

Right now, the population of the San Francisco is the same as before the pandemic; but--and just is my observation, people just don't go out like they used to. Evenings are especially bad. For example, Starbucks in my neighborhood closes by seven.

I was in front of chipotle on 4th st like 6-7 hrs ago there was a lot people with they scooters trying to park to see if they can get a delivery it’s crazy .

The sharers left the city, no businesses left in SF to share off of it!😂 People and 3/4 businesses moved away from Downtown SF! All for leased signs, making it one of the ghost towns!😮

The sharing economy was tried it out in the Soviet Union.. in particular, they had soda machines with reusable cups, and you had to share them and put them back after you used it... Disgusting and it didn't work very well. People just didn't bother.

I live in Phoenix Arizona there is an Amazon Flex delivery pharmacy Warehouse here Amazon Flex in general is very lucrative 15 warehouses 3 whole food locations in a 2-hour delivery grocery service here. Pharmacy is taken off here for Amazon

Unpopular opinion - You can't do an upset pikachu face when you tax tf out of all the tech workers, businesses, and high earners to fund the entire city on their own and they leave to do the exact same work in a lower tax tier 1 city elsewhere. I know it's popular to hate on tech workers, but it's the level of bullying now, and the exodus is ruining the city's economic ecosystem in a way that might not ever recover.
