The Uzumaki Clan should have been the antagonists for Boruto. A tie that was not explored, the conflict of ones roots vs their newly forged bonds. The legacy of your clan, that you can't escape. Imagine the plethora of abilities that they would have. A story arc much like the Quincy resurgence, that everyone thought were extinct. A revenge to the ninja world that attacked them out of fear. Am I the only one seeing a huge opportunity for a very needed significant plotline?

I'd say that the biggest reason for the clan's downfall was betrayal, namely from looking at the map. The Uzushiogakure is literally a spitting distance away from the Country of Fire, and the two villages listed to be responsible _(Cloud and Mist)_ were quite a fair distance away from them, so it feels a bit implausible for them to be able to take them out, at least, not without Konoha catching wind. Sure, there ain't a lot of evidence, but... the way how Konoha doesn't even teach about their supposed ally, the ally that more or less helped them from the start feels... well, it feels like someone is trying to bury something that'd besmirch the village's reputation.

I wouldn't be so sure. Uzushiogakure lies in the Land of Whirlpools so just because one place is closer in distance to Uzushiogakure doesn't mean traveling there will be easy or quick because of the whirlpools that would make traveling there by boat difficult. Also, while each Hidden Village have their spy networks, it isn't like modern soy networks. It could be possible for Cloud and Mist to launch a surprise offensive against Uzushiogakure before the Leaf could send any allies. Cloud and Mist could have also used Jinchurikis to help in wiping out the Uzumakis. There's also a lot of stuff that's simply unknown about the fall of the Uzumakis. Like the exact time frame (anywhere between the Second Great Ninja War and the Third Grea Ninja War) along with the fact that we don't know if it was only Cloud and Mist that were responsible for the destruction of Uzushiogakure. There could be support from other Hidden Vilkages that we simply don't know of. How they did it and the Leah's response is also unclear and unknown.

But the reason as to why I don't think that Cloud and Mist could launch a completely hidden offensive is due to the amount of troops that would've been needed to deal with Uzushiogakure, as the Land of Lightning has no land route to where Uzushio is, and going by water, while possible, would've taken rather long. Though admittedly, that might've been why they partnered with Mist, and possibly even brought Iwagakure in on the plot, using the latter to distract Konoha while the main force assailed Uzushio. Just personally, I do feel like there was some level of betrayal involved, considering that Uzushio should've been a damn-near impenetrable fortress with the kind of sealing techniques we've seen in the series.

@@AnonEcho98 I think you're mistaking what Fanon thinks Fuinjutsu is capable of with what Canon has shown Fuinjutsu to be capable of. A lot of what ever seen Sealing Jutsu do is in relation to the Tailed Beasts, which are Chakra Beasts. No fortress is impenetrable. When it comes to war, amateurs think in strategies while professionals think in logistics. Even if Uzushiogakure hypothetically was an impenetrable fortress, they could still be starved out. Also, Cloud and Mist (and who knows else) working together to wipe out Uzushiogakure makes some sense because Cloud has the Eight Tails (and depending on when it takes place, the Third Raikage) along with the fact that the combination of their Lightning Jutsu and Water Jutsu would've given them a large environmental advantage in the Land of Whirlpools. A betrayal from the Leaf wouldn't be necessary at all for Uzushiogakure to fall.

@@ajiththomas2465 I more specifically mean Fuinjutsu that we've seen in the story, namely Minato warping a Bijuudama away _(Though obviously nothing as mobile or powerful)_ or the littany of seals that we've seen binding people. As for the siege strat, that is possible, but again, one does have to ask: Can the Anti-Uzumaki alliance starve them out before Konoha catches wind of what's going on? Plus, we've seen that items can be stored in scrolls, so it's not impossible to think that Uzushio might have a vast surplus of supplies, at least long enough to hold out until help would arrive. And yeah, logistics are important, but it's not only a pressure on the Uzushio troops, but also the invading alliance, who would most likely be stuck on ships or smaller islands around the whirlpool-ridden area. Besides, if nothing else, Konoha not teaching their future generations about their fallen allies _(Who are flat-out the reason that they held Kurama for as long as they did)_ is certainly a kind of betrayal...

I feel like the best reason should have been the reaper death seal. Making a deal with a shinigami should have led to the clan becoming cursed or some kind of adverse effects. The idea that the Uzumaki just got hunted down because they had cool sealing jutsu, despite them having Kurama (after Hashirama become Hokage), those powerful sealing jutsu and being protected by the Senju clan (who could only be fought using the Uchiha) doesn't make much sense.

It's not just about cool, but about war strategy. Uzumaki's sealing technics were essentially unstoppable weapons if used in other than defensive policies. Superstition could play a role too, but it would be strange because the Shinobi world mixes religion, cults, and science together. It's more likely other people were afraid of how powerful Shinigami Sealing was again if used against them during the war.

I never spared it a thought, but what happened to the monsters the Uzumakis sealed? The flashback implied they put away at least 1 seemingly high tier monster. If there were more from even earlier days, someone could have been eyeing that stockpile of creatures

The Uzumaki were made so powerful that the fact they were destroyed is actually a plot hole. From what we've seen, the Shinobi that joined forces to destroy them could not have succeeded. The Uzumaki had their own power and, unlike everyone else, had spent basically the entirety of the clan wars and the world wars unmolested and building strength and that of their village which also included other clans (because it was a village, duh) and nation. At the absolute least, it would be pretty easy for them to hold the line until Konoha and Suna ninja arrived to assist them. Plus, considering the world map, the enemy forces would have taken heavy casualties against Konoha anyway just getting to Uzu no Kuni in the first place. To say nothing of how sealing techniques would make escaping extremely easy.

There's already a seal for the Byakugan, and that seal is an automated thing that activates at the Byakugan user dies, that is only a component of a much larger shock-collar seal. We have no canon confirmation that the seal came from the Uzumaki, but yeah, basically sealing eyes is definitely possible, so who knows about other kekagenkai?

@@kaiz1845 Arguably they could even develop a method similar to Orochimaru's curse marks to GRANT people kekkei genkai. I mean, Naruto got stuff like Shukaku's magnet release and Son Goku's lava release just by having a bit of chakra from them inside him, while Kakashi got Obito's Mangekyou after the latter possessed him with the remnants of his chakra. I mean, the curse mark in and of itself is already a way to impart a kekkei genkai of a clan to a non-clan relative, since it's based on a unique ability of the Jugo clan, even if it's high-risk to get to the second stage. Imagine if someone from the Uzumaki clan got a hold of a particle style user and developed a curse mark based on their chakra.

Tbh I would've really liked a story post Naruto where Hokage or Last Naruto and Karin are re establishing the Uzumaki Clan because CLEARLY they aren't as "wiped out" as we think they are if they were just popping up left an right all over the place, unlike the Uchiha Clan •You have Hashirama's WIFE(which tbh considering her lineage Tsunade should have been WAAAY more OP having BOTH Senju and Uzumaki blood in her vains) •You have Naruto ofc •Kushina •Nagato •Karin But the way Kishimoto wrote all of them who weren't Naruto was just as a chakra container plot device. In my head Canon one of the reasons why the Clan was destroyed is because they developed a sealing technique that would enable Jinchuriki to enter a Chakra Mode after defeating the Bijuu. And that's also the reason why Naruto has kcm.

Both Mito and Kushina's life as a jinchuriki was overlooked just to make Naruto look better

I don't think the Reaper Death Seal is a Sealing Jutsu that originated from the Uzumakis. The Eight Trigram Seal that sealed the Nine Tails inside Naruto is one that originates from the Uzumakis, as evidenced by the signature Uzumaki swirl.

Mask that was key to undo Reaper Death Seal was hidden in Uzumaki temple. This is only evidence tie this jutsu to anybody so it is rather strong argument for them being creators.

Kishomoto wanted to make his main character even more special so he created a power clan that just so happens to let him be one of the few remaining members of to further his depressing background while also relating his situation to Sasuke’s, though it was done terribly. Honestly, I don’t think he had any idea as to who was responsible for their destruction and how they did it because there is no way that throughout the entire series we wouldn’t have read or be hinted about village(s) who wiped out a powerful clan related to the series main. Though it does piss me out that a side character and a fan girl from that clan got a cool ability from being a part of that clan, the healing ability and chakra chain, but not the main character.

As people said in the comments I think one of the biggest waste of character stories that could of been is the fact none of the surviving uzamakis never even once acknowledge eachothers existance. Now when DBZ did it, it made sense, because psychologically it was highly likely Goku felt no love or sentimentalism with Saiyans from the fact he lived happily on earth as a man, not as a saiyan. So out of nowhere some weird ailen dudde comes up, beats up your family and says "btw im your bro". So gokus reaction makes perfect sense. But for naruto one of his biggest goals in life was to have friends, a family, to be understood. He genuinely craved for a family, so the fact they writer made no investment to show naruto his surviving family members and the type of reaction he would have upon learning the news is a total waste.

From my search and two bottles of whiskey, the clans destruction must have happened during the second shinobi war All the nations were fighting against Konoha said by multiple characters and the fact that Konoha wears the symbol of the Uzumaki on their uniforms makes it hard to believe Konoha joined in the attack more likely it’s that information was quarantined to keep reinforcements. It is easy to believe that at some point Uzushio was planning on joining Konoha’s side of the war or was supporting Konoha in some way causing the villages to destroy the Uzushio before they could reinforce Konoha, this might caused the war to end because this single clan was able to damage the other four to the point requesting a ceasefire.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the uzumaki leaders are more insane then implied. Kushina was one of the last members at the time so she likely wasn’t taught by any other members so that severely limited her techniques, also as an adult she wasn’t doing combat as far as i know so she likely wasn’t actively training so even before all of the stuff went down with child birth and the nine tails being removed, she wasn’t even at her strongest meaning she would’ve been a whole lot more stronger and she likely would be a mid to high member so the leaders would be strong beyond belief

Isn't it stated that the Uzumaki clan were in the midst of a civil war when the other Villages attacked? I think there's a panel where Kushina states that the Uzumaki were very savage which makes sense when you see Kushina, Karin, Nagato and Tsunade have fierce tempers (even though Tsunade's Uzumaki blood isn't as strong as her Senju blood she counts imho.)

I'm pretty sure Kishimoto didn't decide to make Uzumaki a clan at first. Making it into a clan was very redundant because one of the highlights is having lots of chakra but kurama already gives Naruto plenty of chakra.

Can easily change the story from the Uzumaki clan being destroyed to Uzumaki sealing themselves away to avoid extinction and purposely planting/hiding various Uzumaki's across the ninja world so they can unseal them one day.

Not sure I agree on the chakra thing, Karin doesn't seem to have huge reserves, nothing in the series says they do, and Nagato might have gotten his huge reserves same way Naruto and Kushina would, constant stress from an outside power forcing it to be bigger to survive. That being said everything else would be more than enough to make them fearsome.

@@no.1spidey-fan182 That's just all really silly. 1. Karin says she should only use it once for safety reasons, so refilling even 1 Jonin is to much for her multiple times. That indicates she has Jonin levels of Chakra at best if we're saying she's directly refilling. And if she's not just directly transferring her Chakra somehow then it's a moot point as healing characters stronger than you is perfectly fine. 2. Chains is just straight out dumb, nothing indicates the Chains take a lot of chakra. 3. "for SURE" isn't an argument, you just like Uzumaki's having a lot of Chakra.

This reminds me of a fanfic in which the writer remembered the lore about how much ass the Uzumaki kicked when they were destroyed and had it affect the story. When the ninja in the Wave mission learn Naruto is an Uzumaki, the completely freak out and run away. Even Zabuza had no interest in fucking around with an Uzumaki.

So...people that aren't stated to be Uzumaki, but could 100% be descendants: Roshi in Iwa, Karui in Kumo, the scientist in the current Sasuke and Sakura story in Boruto, Honoka who is actually implied to be Uzumaki. Now I'm not sure about Roshi, just due to not knowing how old he is in comparison to when the destruction of the Uzu village happened, but his family could have easily already been living in Iwa already. Karui tho, obviously, she's got the red hair, so that's a check there. But she seemingly has nothing else that would tie her to the Uzumaki, but shes from Kumo, who have a habit of trying to steal bloodlines for themselves. I think that after the Uzu destruction, Kumo and possibly Iwa, took Uzumaki prisoners back to their villages to either start their own lines of loyal Uzumaki ninja, or at least use the prisoners as breeders to improve the overall quality of their ninja.

Also not every uzumaki has the chain, especially since the chains are a fuinjutsu technique that has to be taught/learned and even among the currently living and confimed Uzumaki, only Karin can do it. Secondly we have no idea if Karui (and other possible Uzumaki) have long life spans or not, so that is a moot point either way. Karui has a really good chance of being an Uzumaki just because she lives in Kumo, the village that has a habit of stealing/kidnapping people for more power. There's no way Kumo wouldn't take advantage of the destruction of Ushiogakure and its survivors scattering around the world by getting new, powerful additions to their village. Too many facts and coincidences are lining up in the right way.

They were so feared it wasn't just the clan that was wiped out. It was the village they built as well as the entire nation they ruled. The whole place was laid to waste...and as far as I'm aware there weren't any survivors of the attacking armies and fully bijuu manifested jinchuuriki.

To be clear, the Uzumaki weren't specifically feared so much as how much they could contribute to Konoha and the fact their own village was close to becoming a sixth great village...extremely closely allied with Konoha. So, everyone else was heavily invested in nipping both the Uzumaki and their village in the bud.

about that, if you think more into it there would always be an odd number of main villages so that last voice can solve a dabate as from what we know they also choose the kages of the small villages unless I'm wrong. But it is highly possible.

I wonder if their genetic talent for seals also affects seals used on them. For example, on top of their strong bodies (you forgot that part) and life force, perhaps the fact that being a jinchuuriki involves fuinjutsu also gave something of a buffer against being harmed by the bijuu being extracted.

There's also the question of why the surviving Uzumaki didn't gather in Konoha or why any Uzumaki weren't already there either visiting or for diplomatic reasons with their Eternal Allies. Especially since the way to where the Uzumaki other than Kushina ended up requires passing through the Land of Fire. This actually was a big point back in the day for the fandom. So much so that it was theorized that Konoha either let their enemies through or helped destroy the Uzumaki.
