So I always wondered how giving Naruto his moms last night was somehow hiding his identity.. so the uzumaki clan was a significant clan in ninja history, and it would be common knowledge that the first hokage’s wife was a uzumaki, and the other ppl in the village would’ve known that the 4ths wife’s maiden name was uzumaki as well seeing as how she grew up in the leaf. So wouldn’t ppl be able to discern that “hey this guy carries the nine tails, which was sealed by the 4th, he also shares the maiden name of his wife, who was pregnant with his child at the time of the attack.. 🤔 and he’s blonde haired and blue eyed as well… hmmmm” 😂

I mean all Jinchuriki of Kurama were Uzumaki, so if the official story stated that Kushinas child died that night (if the villigers even knew she was pregnent to begin with) it would be a pretty logical assumtion that Naruto was just another Uzumaki send by the allied clan to continue the alliance. In a way it was the perfect cover. No one wondered who his perents were because know one in the leaf expected to know them anyway.

The fourth Raikage recognised Naruto, Jiraiha and Orochimaru knew who he was but it’s really weird how Kakashi never interacted with the kid knowing what we know now.

Literally no adult in this show should be forgiven for any of their crimes against these children aside. Aside from maybe Guy who at least has the ability to say he gave his student every tool he could to get them to not use the gates technique frivolously and Lee did it anyways. And some of the teachers we don't actually have info on, but even then all we can say is that there literally isn't anything we can say about them accurately aside from maybe who their students were.

I would have to oppose the "aside from Guy" part as we see him beat up Lee as his go to methode for dicipline and then make this emotionally manipulative shit of "see I'm crying because you made me hit you with your bad behaviour". Sure he's not the worse of the bunch, and compared to the fact that they are all indocrinated child soldier he seems tame, but if you met someone like him in real life that wouldn't be someone you would think as a good (or even decent) caretaker.

I just need to ask a simple question. Why do people believe Danzo did anything for the sake of the village? The man literally did nothing solely for the sake of the village. His primary concern was for himself. If the village benefited? Great! If the village burned to the ground? Even better! The man was a petty, spiteful, psychotic, villain through and through.

This is a ridiculous take. Danzo CLEARLY worked for the good of the village. You can disagree with his biases (clear anti-Uchiha bias.. but that's one that festered in the village for generations), but you can't run a military village on good vibes. You kinda have to kill, amass power, lie, betray.. it's what being a ninja is. Danzo had a vision for what was best for Konoha. You can disagree with it, but I don't see how you can even argue that he wasn't clearly motivated by his vision for what was best for the village.

He canonically collaborated with Orochimaru and the Fourth Kazekage for the invasion of Konoha with the intent of ruling over the rebuilding of the rubble that would have been left had the invasion gone differently, intentionally sabotaged the Uchiha negotiations solely for the purpose of being able to steal Sharingan for his own personal use (which Orochimaru helped him work with), constantly undermined or directly contravened the authority of no fewer than two Hokage.

He shouldn’t be allowed to just order the death of an entire clan like that. And what did it lead to? Oh it led to Sasuke abandoning the village and trying to destroy it later on and Itachi got messed over too really. And somehow I don’t think murdering Shisui and taking his eye was for the good of the village.

@@starrsmith3810 is that a joke? The Uchiha massacre was greenlit by ALL of the village higher-ups. It was CLEARLY seen as an unfortunate action, done for the good of the village. Even Itachi saw it that way. That's why he did it. You can argue they were wrong.. but you can't argue that the motivation for the action wasn't the long-term stability of Konoha. I really be wondering what story some of y'all were watching/reading if something this basic/obvious didn't come through somehow. As for the Shisui part.. it's not contradictory at all. Danzo obviously took Shisui's eye so that he would be personally stronger.. but his goal for all of his actions (and even his final thoughts before he died) was Konoha's long-term stability/success. He sought personal power so that he could enact his vision for what he thought was best for Konoha. I really don't see how there's any sort of argument otherwise.

How the fuck is trying to murder the literal HOKAGE for the good of the village? Also no. Wanting to get powerful isn’t an excuse to murder someone and then steal their eyes. Also somehow I don’t think murdering children is for the good of the village. Danzo may have claimed it was for Konoha but that’s bullshit. At the end of the day a leader is a leader. If a leader can't see resentment being formed ahead of time, can't deal with making those dark choices if needed, and can't secure the baseline well being of his citizens, like Naruto, then they failed. As a person I don't think Hiruzen did anything 'unforgivable' or anything, but as a leader sometimes you need to be a leader first, and letting Danzo keep his power and not personally trying to help the Uchiha years earlier are just failings as a Hokage.

Because Hiruzen literally said "Naruto, you say?! Fine. I take full responsibility." He chose to take care of Naruto as a dying wish to his successor and hero of Konoha, so yeah he is absolutely responsible for Naruto's upbringing way more that Orochimaru's.

I would argue that Hiruzen left the village worse than he found it, given that they're now down their strongest clan and have multiple S-Class criminals on the loose, both as a result of Hiruzen's actions (or inactions).

A few naruto takes that realy should stop are: "oh the hokage couldn't do anything cause of danzo or the council" no just no danzo and most of the council were his former teammates under tobirama and thats not an accident thats nepotism and if he thinks he has bad advisors he should have just gotten better ones, especially when one of them tried to KILL HIM and he was like "no no its ok danzo i still trust your judgment dispite your attempt on my life and that secret privat army you built that i told you to disband but didn't and when you went behind my back to leak narutos secret thereby endagering the life of an important village resurce" but what do you expect from the guy who let orochimaru get way when he literally caught him red handed doing treason. "Oh the uchiah were planing a coup so what was he sapposed to do it was to late at that point" they were literally put in a camp at the edge of the village that was watched 24/7 by cameras and ostracised by their own village. And it wasn't to late when hiruzen agreed to danzos plan for the uchiah after the kyuubi attack (like hiruzen didn't just become hokage the day they found out the uchiah were planing a coup) he just sat there for years and watched the relationship between the uchiah and the village crumble without doing anything (and he should have done something since as village leader it is in fact his job to make the village strong and infighting doesn't do that) "Oh hiruzen didn't know x or y and even if he did he couldn't do anything cause he is not a dictator" one he is a leader of a ninja village and information gathering is in the job discription. two he is a dictator, like again this is a ninja village and he did in fact but a gag order on narutos whole situation by threat of death so no one talked about it and literally had a whole clan exsecuted (yeah it was danzos orders but the fact that itachi even did it in the first place means that a kage can just do that) like the village isn't a democrasy where people vote for the leader its a military dictatorship where the strongest person in the military force is the leader (and also either related to 1st hokage or related to another kage cause nepotism again) "Danzo actually cared about konoha" no he wanted power just like orochimaru but unlike orochimaru he wasn't smart enough or strong enough to get it himself so he got himself his own privat army and then got orochimaru to give him not only hashirama cells (which is just spiting on his teachers grave and the village as a whole since hashirama was you know tobiramas brother and also the founder of the village so yeah just go desecrate his corpse i guess) but also multiple sharigans cause he wanted a strong kekegenkai. Like people agrue that he helped with the uchiah coup even if it was extrem but like the only reason there was a coup was cause he put them in a camp and like I'm pretty sure he planed to get the whole clan killed just so he could get the eyes so no he did not "help konoha" by perpousfully driving its strongest clan against the village only so he could kill them and harvest their eyes. and i also don't think taking away from the ninja workforce for his own privat army is helping the village especially when he cut the number of those in half with his "you must kill your friend to prove your loyalty" in shot no he didn't give shit about konoha (like he kidnapped kids for his privat army and for orochimarus expiriments and the whole point of the village was to built a place where kids didn't have to die befor they hit double digits so danzo failed that badly, not that hiruzen did better with his policy of sending kids into wars and missions as long as they were a "genius" but even rin and obito ran missions in the war so yeah not great) Also why did everyone think the uchiah made the kyuubi attack the village? like its a demon made of chakra that (befor naruto befriended him) canonicly hated humans why wouldn't he just attack the village as revenge for sealing him (like yeah hiruzen and danzo knew there was a mask man claiming to be madara but like the avarage villager didn't know that so why did they think the uchiah did it? probly danzo again wasn't it?)

Absolutly agree with your points, just my two cents on the Kyubi/Uchiha : Madara Uchiha taking control of Kyubi and using him to attack the village is an important part of the village history so it's not surprising that some people might suspect an Uchiha from having tried again, but yeah to go from that to the default assumption in the village being that Uchihas as a group were guilty is a pretty far stretch. It could be that Danzo fanned the flames of the rumors, but the fact that it stuck so hard that one of the main clan could be ostracized to that point seems to indicate that the relationship was already horrendous. As they came out of several decades of Hiruzen's rule and just a few years of Minato's it's pretty fair to assume that Hiruzen had already been ignoring the degrading relationship with the Uchihas in his first term.

@@tetri90 oh danzo definitly had a part in making it worse, wouldn't suprise me if one of the reason it was so bad befor the kyuubi attack to begin with was because of danzo. Since we never actually found out for how long he has been working against hiruzen and when he formed root, so he could have been working to make the uchiah look bad for literal decades for all we know. Would probably actually be true since we know that both danzo and hiruzen were tobiramas students and he wasn't exsactly known for hugging uchiah, so if that turned out to be the reason why hiruzen ignored danzo messing with the uchiah it would at least be a reason for why they do that, even if it isn't a great one. (I could make whole another post about the fandoms false perception of tobirama as the uchiah rascist when that is so not the case, as genuin concern about the mental stability of a guy who can level mountains but that also can't get over his war trauma due to perfect memory magic eyeballs, especially when he is the one who killed said guys brother is pretty understandable, as apposed to danzos kill the whole clan cause I want imortality eyeballs but I don't want to make this longer then it need to)

Two, we actually do see danzos thoughts and know that in his mind he genuinely thought he was helping the leaf with his actions. You can say that sentiment was poorly demonstrated and that he had selfish motivations that undermined, but that is his stated and shown stance in the Manga.

I respect Hiruzen a lot. Telling Naruto he was a jinchuriki or who his parents were should've happened later in his life. That info is a burden too which Naruto was too young for imo. After that info we have to consider what to do next with it, train Naruto specially? have bodyguards accompany him in open? It would just rob him of the little childhood he could've had. Hiruzen just died before he had the opportunity to tell him. He did care for him, he placed him with Kakashi. He is the reason why Iruka and Naruto were so close. Hiruzen knew it was important for Iruka just as much as it was for Naruto. He cared for all. Not to mention, the other elders would have had a say in this matter too. Jiraya was sort of a loose cannon so he could get away with it. Even Uchihas acknowledged that the 3rd tried hard for peace. Which shows us why Hiruzen was the only one who could take the reigns again. Intelligence alone doesnt matter like why Naruto is better candidate than Shikamaru. You need strength and someone who is respected both within and outside the village. Kakashi was a good choice, but at the time of his Hiruzen's death, Kakashi couldnt hope to match someone like Orochimaru. Hell, Danzo would've steamrolled Kakashi to become hokage For separating Uchihas, even if you put your own loss aside, he had to consider the village's feelings. Everyone blamed Uchihas for it, having them live together was like playing with fire on top of a pile of gunpowder. I do blame the council for a lot. Specially Danzo. His own right hand man was actively sabotaging him. Imagine Naruto doing much while Shikamaru is plotting against him. Being hokage is quite a lot of work, you got to trust in people around you, it just turned out that people around him were jackasses. If he had enough proof like he had with Orochi he could've done something more about Danzo... ...But the biggest flaw in Hiruzen imo was that he was too soft. He cared a lot and that made him go easy on people around him. He gave people more chances than they deserved, always extended the olive branch. Even when he was fighting Orochimaru, in his last moments he remembered him fondly. People took advantage of it. However, he had seen real war and he did everything to prevent that. Its incredible that he still found strength to not be cynical and hateful. He shielded the village for most part and Konoha became a bright and peaceful place. What is Naruto's (and other kids' around him) idea of hokage is Hiruzen

He was a great man, who was the greatest ninja of his time. He focused on the right things, protecting his comrades and passing down the will to protect them to others. He realized his wife was dead and only stopped to think for a moment before springing into action. He was the ultimate shinobi. He was weak of heart, which lead to some problems, but he had no good advisors. The 3 around him can’t be trusted in my eyes.

He never did get any better at dealing with the tough sides of leadership, but he was basically the hokage of the leaf for all of its history damn near. The leaf village is him, so it makes sense most of the crazy things happened under his rule. No doubt I agree he has huge faults and isn’t fit for the role of hokage as much as someone say, shikamaru, or kakashi.

I don't see how Naruto + Shikamaru could have stopped, say, the Uchiha massacre.. the story is just written so that they never have to deal with anything that tough. In the whole og series, Naruto never really had to grapple with anything emotionally difficult or duplicitous. Hiruzen didn't have the luxury of being able to go down to the Uchiha compound and say "let's all be friends" and just have that work out.. so he needed Danzo.. but again, the fact that Hiruzen couldn't rise to the occasion of who he needed to be when dealing with actual tough things was a fatal flaw for him.

Danzo didn't do what he did to protect the village, he USED the village as his scapegoat to gain more power. As a person I don't think Hiruzen did anything 'unforgivable' or anything, but as a leader sometimes you need to be a leader first, and letting Danzo keep his power and not personally trying to help the Uchiha years earlier are just failings as a Hokage. At some point, you have to judge a person by their actions and the consequences thereof, rather than their intentions. I would argue that Hiruzen left the village worse than he found it, given that they're now down their strongest clan and have multiple S-Class criminals on the loose, both as a result of Hiruzen's actions (or inactions). He was a great man, who was the greatest ninja of his time. He focused on the right things, protecting his comrades and passing down the will to protect them to others. You need strength and someone who is respected both within and outside the village. Kakashi was a good choice, but at the time of his Hiruzen's death, Kakashi couldnt hope to match someone like Orochimaru. Hell, Danzo would've steamrolled Kakashi to become hokage For separating Uchihas, even if you put your own loss aside, he had to consider the village's feelings. Everyone blamed Uchihas for it, having them live together was like playing with fire on top of a pile of gunpowder. I do blame the council for a lot. Specially Danzo. His own right hand man was actively sabotaging him. Imagine Naruto doing much while Shikamaru is plotting against him. When it comes to raising naruto I think it's a plot hole I remember reading the series summary and it said that Hiruzen took in Naruto and raised him but that was never really shown... He's supposed to be the grandpa Hokage and I don't get why (I mean the real answer was probably to cheaply make the audience sympathize with Naruto) as it doesn't change anything if as you said he would still face discrimination from the rest of the village but now he'd have someone the for him telling him what a hokage should be..Hiruzen should've had a bigger role in Naruto's life.. another thing is that the hokage isnt a king but closer to a president or prime minister. while they have the most say they can be hindered by the elders because of their political power. hiruzen could chase orchimaru out since he just a ninja but danzo had a lot of political sway and was backed by another elder. similar to our world when a president or gov entity cant get things dont because another group disagrees. they hindered tsunade as well and would've gotten in minato's way too. i guess an interesting point of discussion is why doesnt each new hokage get to change the "elders" when they come in. their experience is helpful they do bring their own baggage. its still technically a problem to day. shikamaru has advised 3 kage so far and while he's a good guy and deserves it. its still a double edge sword.

The hokage killing danzo looks bad even if they don't like him, he still had supporters. A leader killing a person on the opposite political opponent will lead to strife. Lastly danzo trained a bunch of elite anbu, the root. Theyre were loyal to him before the hokage. If he died due to the hokage orders and not a rouge ninja like Sasuke. The leaf would've lost a chunk of their forces and potentially secrets if those members join with other villages in revenge.

The Third did do a lot of dumb things. Like the Uchiha clan, all he had to do was to negotiate with them. Nobody would dare fight or challenge the Third knowing how powerful he was at the time. And for Naruto, most tail host are treated harshly and discriminated against in all village. I think the Third knew this and didn't want the same thing to happen to Naruto but it happened anyways and was probably something that went under the radar for the Third. As we all know, the Hokage is always busy and does not always have the time to micromanage everyone. Hiruzen was a bad Hokage, no doubt about that. I understand that certain things were kind of out of his control or he had hard choices to make, however, there are also many occasions where his lack of action were the entire problem. I recently rewatched the Og Naruto and lets just say that there is a scene that made me hate Hiruzen. Not Sakura lvl of hate, but I still hated what he did, or rather what he did not do. The scene I am talking about is the scene where he leaves Orochimaru leave. Hiruzen and 2 AMBU corner Orochimaru, and Hiruzen just lets him kill the 2 AMBU and leave without lifting a finger. Hiruzen was an incapable and complecent Hokage.

Yes he's really that bad the thirds treatment of Naruto definitely isn't the biggest factor. That tho he easily could have fixed at least leaving him to starve on ramen and spoiled milk. Secondly, and probably more importantly, the greatest thing Hiruzen could have done was meet the uchiha where they are at. ALL of their concerns were perfectly valid. They were pushed to the edges, distrusted and disdained, hated by most, envied by all, and continually the target of questioning. All because of the actions of ONE person, madara uchiha. Literally ALL hiruzen had to do was make reforms to where the uchiha are positioned, consider breaking up the policong to several different clans insyead of just the uchiha. After all, hes shown a willingness to nake changes to the current system through tsunade's suggestions for medical ninja. These are all fairly simple ideas overlooked because, truthfully, he didnt trsut them either. And he didnt even try. Becayse thats what shinobi do.

after the 9 tails he should have brought in a clan council. It's obvious that clans were going with their own agendas and not staying with the overall goal of the village. A council of the clan leaders would have allowed more ground for them voicing their issues any clan had. And kept the village together. Also create an investigation group into the 9 tails attack to get answers. I mean you got Uchia specialized in this stuff working with other clans that specialize especially with someone like Shikaku.

People see Hiruzen as the worst because they don't realize just how dark the Naruto world is. At the end of the day was any hokage even close to perfect. Hiruzen was too nice of a guy and the failiures he had haunted him and he gave his life to rectify at least one of them. You can say that he wasen't the best leader but painting him as a horrible person when he was the exact opposite just shows how little you know.

I believe we give danzo too much credit by taking his words at face value as he is about to die. To me, it wounds as though he is obviously truing to cover himself. Quite frankly, none of his actions have been beneficial to the leaf. They have bred only contention. Danzo was glad to have all that responsibility because he was just below hokage. And to have anyone tell him what he could and couldnt do didnt phase hin because he just ignored him. Orochimaru is like the flu, it always comes bqck and it always presents a challenge. Danzo is cancer, turning the while body against itself. Exhibit A, uchiha massacre. Exhibit B, the hidden leaf against natuto.

I hate the "it was already too late, they were planing a coup" excuse for the Uchiha massacre because, even disregarding the fact that Hiruzen could have intervened before that point, the fact that some adults ninjas of the clan are planning a coup does not excuse slaughtering every single member of the clan, civilians and childs included. Actually, we are directly shown exemple of Uchiha nijas who were more loyal to the village that the clan in Itachi, Shisui and Izumi and there is no reason to immagine that they were the only three person to share that view. The same "Itachi went rogue and slaughtered his clan" plan would have worked just as well with him only killing the ninjas of the clan in a bid to prove that he was the best Uchiha. Killing the children and civillians was not to protect the village, and certainly not to avoid a coup. Danzo was just making a power play and making sure that he could get his hand on the sharingans when they would have been heavily protected by law and it would have been difficult to remove them from the corpses if there had still been representents of the clan to after the massacre.

Tbf shisuis plan would not have worked, the head of the Uchiha was not a dictator they had a council and Fugaku was initially pressured by the council to perform the coup it would at best push it down the line and at worst just cause then to remove the moderate Fugaku in return for a more pro coup clan head you can only use shisuis jutsu on one person not the whole clan, and also the nine tails had a giant mongekyuo sharingan and everyone knows Madara used his sharingan to control the 9 tails in the past and no one had any reason to believe Naruto was alive but they did know that Fugaku has MS meaning it could have easily been him in surprised they never tried to investigate or charge him for it sense it very much looked like he did it from the perspective of the average person

As a person I don't think Hiruzen did anything 'unforgivable' or anything, but as a leader sometimes you need to be a leader first, and letting Danzo keep his power and not personally trying to help the Uchiha years earlier are just failings as a Hokage. At some point, you have to judge a person by their actions and the consequences thereof, rather than their intentions. I would argue that Hiruzen left the village worse than he found it, given that they're now down their strongest clan and have multiple S-Class criminals on the loose, both as a result of Hiruzen's actions (or inactions). He was a great man, who was the greatest ninja of his time. He focused on the right things, protecting his comrades and passing down the will to protect them to others. He realized his wife was dead and only stopped to think for a moment before springing. A little correction:Hiruzen never promised to take care of Naruto, that was an anime only thing. He never promised in the manga. Also I respect Hiruzen a lot. Telling Naruto he was a jinchuriki or who his parents were should've happened later in his life. That info is a burden too which Naruto was too young for imo. After that info we have to consider what to do next with it, train Naruto specially? have bodyguards accompany him in open? It would just rob him of the little childhood he could've had. Hiruzen just died before he had the opportunity to tell him. He did care for him, he placed him with Kakashi. I have to disagree with you on a few things. Whatever Danzo did was for the good of the village? Not true. Danzo's first priority was to himself, then the village. Danzo would pick methods that would benefit himself and his own power along with short term benefit to the village. Killing the entire Uchiha clan was the course of action he wanted because he knew he could then collect a bunch of eyes and become more powerful. He had his foundation stand down during pain's invasion so that he could assume the role of Hokage even though there was an immediate threat to the village. So don't give me that. And your other point to do with Hiruzen and how he governed. Listen, Naruto has Tsunade and Kakashi and shikamaru that he listens to, but if you watch, he makes the final decision. He doesn't get outvoted by anybody. They all chime in, if he even bothers to let them know, he then makes his decision. Hiruzen was just a weak leader. No excuses needed. Naruto is one of the most open and caring and warm people in the Narutoverse and he is still more of a leader than Hiruzen.

Honestly Hiruzen gets way too much hate, he actually did a lot for Naruto. In one of the Boruto chapters when Shikamaru and Naruto were discussing on what to do with Kawaki. Shikamaru was saying that child or not that he was a danger that would normally be kept on strict confinement. Then Naruto said that if it weren't for Hiruzen he would've been kept under confinement too, which makes sense when you think about it knowing the elders. He let Naruto have free rein and let him become a ninja even though a lot of people didn't want him too. He hid the fact that Naruto was the jinchuriki, it was Danzo who leaked it out otherwise he would've had a normal childhood (or as normal as a orphan in the Naruto verse), so he had to pass the law that was punishable by death that no one could talk about it or tell Naruto and the younger generation to give him a chance. He gave him an apartment complex (I don't know why fanfiction writers write that he lives in the slums), it's only messy because Naruto is an orphaned 12 year old boy, who doesn't know how to take care of himself. And he constantly let him get away with his pranks because he understood why Naruto was doing that, so he could be acknowledged. And he couldn't force the villagers to be nice to Naruto, that would be like the President forcing people to stop being racist or homophobic. And he couldn't take Naruto in either, how do you think it will look to other villages that the Hokage took in some random orphan, why this orphan he must be important then after some digging they found out that he's the fourth Hokage's son and the jinchuriki which is a double target on his back and the leaf village couldn't afford to go into another war since they were just attacked by the nine tails and lost many Shinobi. And he would watch Naruto through his crystal ball sometimes to make sure he was okay. The whole Hiruzen promising to take care of Naruto was a non-canon scene that didn't happen in the manga which is canon source material. Hiruzen never promised to take care of Naruto, but he still did in some ways and without Hiruzen Naruto's childhood could've been much much worse like the other Jinchuriki's had it. Now I'm not saying he was perfect but he did a lot, not a lot of people realize that after the nine tails attack the village lost lots of valuable ninja and Hiruzen who was already old had to retake the position and deal with the aftermath and Uchiha.

It would just rob him of the little childhood he could've had. Hiruzen just died before he had the opportunity to tell him. He did care for him, he placed him with Kakashi. He is the reason why Iruka and Naruto were so close. Hiruzen knew it was important for Iruka just as much as it was for Naruto. He cared for all. Not to mention, the other elders would have had a say in this matter too. Jiraya was sort of a loose cannon so he could get away with it. Even Uchihas acknowledged that the 3rd tried hard for peace. Which shows us why Hiruzen was the only one who could take the reigns again. Intelligence alone doesnt matter like why Naruto is better candidate than Shikamaru. You need strength and someone who is respected both within and outside the village. Kakashi was a good choice, but at the time of his Hiruzen's death, Kakashi couldnt hope to match someone like Orochimaru. Hell, Danzo would've steamrolled Kakashi to become hokage For separating Uchihas, even if you put your own loss aside, he had to consider the village's feelings. Everyone blamed Uchihas for it, having them live together was like playing with fire on top of a pile of gunpowder. I do blame the council for a lot. Specially Danzo. His own right hand man was actively sabotaging him. Imagine Naruto doing much while Shikamaru is plotting against him. Being hokage is quite a lot of work, you got to trust in people around you, it just turned out that people around him were jackasses. If he had enough proof like he had with Orochi he could've done something more about Danzo... ...But the biggest flaw in Hiruzen imo was that he was too soft. He cared a lot and that made him go easy on people around him. He gave people more chances than they deserved, always extended the olive branch. Even when he was fighting Orochimaru, in his last moments he remembered him fondly. People took advantage of it. However, he had seen real war and he did everything to prevent that. Its incredible that he still found strength to not be cynical and hateful. He shielded the village for most part and Konoha became a bright and peaceful place. What is Naruto's (and other kids' around him) idea of hokage is Hiruzen

We have absolutly no information about that. He was only Hokage for a few years, and neither the manga nor the anime ever gave the slightest information about what he did during that time. We have no idea what his policies were as an Hokage, nor how well he implemented them. Considering his idea of psychological treatment for his traumatized 13 years old apprentice (who had just lost his two team mates) was to make him into a black ops soldier, I would not trust his judgment. Like Hiruzen, Minato was a really strong and really competent soldier, but that doesn't nececeraly makes a good ruler.

i know why the arguments go this way in every situation, be it praising or disrespecting Hiruzen, but many people forget that they are trying to answer a non canon question with a canon answer. Kisimoto is the only reason this situation got this bad, how fare did he have the story at chapter 0? Inconsistent might not be hars enough word to describe the latter half of shippuden. He didn't know minato was naruto's father until the start of the zabuza arc, all i am saying that Kisimoto could have come up with something different and decided not to do so.
