Franco has bipolar mood disorder that can include delusions of grandeur and even hallucinations. His conduct is likely the result of distorted thinking that accompanies the disease, it does not excuse his behaviour but it explains it-at least in part and as such he deserves a certain amount of sympathy. He does need to be in therapy both medical and psychological but he is not a monster and deserves a second chance.

No: Spiderman was NOT responsible for making the superhero genre what it is today. That distinction solidly goes to BLADE. Blade was not only the first Marvel property to be a cinematic success (a big one), but also the first ever to take a character seriously, and in a brutal, down to earth fashion. Blade did that. Every other property followed.

Very hard to say, but with Kubrick there were no suggestions of sexual impropriety. Whedon axed Carpenter for being pregnant, which Kubrick wouldn’t have done. @@Archontasil I feel like Kubrick is one of those figures that would be kinda hard to cancel. Even back then everyone pretty much already knows he's kind of a dick, but no one really ever did anything about it. I think even today he'd probably get away with it. Part of it because he's really that good at his job, but mostly because he's a notorious recluse. Besides his movies you probably wouldn't even see his presence anywhere. He mostly likely wouldn't give a shit about what people say about him on things like social media, he probably wouldn't even have one. Hell, most people probably wouldn't even recognize him on the street. Another part is he never really present himself as some sort of friendly approachable people person, which I noticed tends to get you cancelled a lot more easily if that's the sort of public image you have, because if there's anything people hate the most, it's hypocrites.

Joss Whedon is no longer worth of doing anything after what he did with JUSTICE LEAGUE
@Dream0Asylum10 ай бұрын
People can't really hold Justice League against him, it was never - at any point - his project. He had no input on casting, the only thing he could do to the script was add jokes - as the studio demanded, and he was basically instructed to "just finish the movie." For what it was, the studio had it underfunded and short scheduled meaning reshoots were done under extreme crunch. I watched the Snyder Cut (even bought the 4k) and it is a better a movie in that it's more tonally consistent and thematically cohesive, but it's still just a slog to watch. All-in-all, WB is to blame for trying to shortcut to a cinematic universe to chase Avengers level box office numbers. People still watch the Phase I Marvel stuff because they're honestly just solid sci-fi / fantasy adventure movies. You can't judge any artist on their worst work - especially when their contribution was frankly minimal, even Spielberg has a couple of stinkers in his filmography. Saying Joss doesn't deserve to make another movie because of Justice League is like saying Spielberg doesn't deserve to make another film because of Crystal Skull.

This lead him into the situation he is now in career wise. However even if true.... I thought what Ally Sheedy did posting her tweet on Oscar night Franco's biggest nite was pretty low... As this video shows it all started with Ally Sheedy's tweet. Even if Sheedy's comment was true it started a chain event of destroying a man's career. How proud Ally Sheedy must be walking around today saying "YES I ruined James Franco's career." The saying if you have nothing nice to say about a person don't say anything comes to mind. Ally Sheedy could have just rolled her eyes on Oscar night. Eventually Franco's misdeeds would have been outed if he kept on the path. But I just don't like people doing what Sheedy did. ALSO if one remembers the ME TOO movement which came from legit sexual harassment of women in Hollywood developed into almost hysteria with many women having an ax to grind coming out of the woodwork hurting the ME TOO movement. I GET sexual harassment is not right but there is always a he said/she said narrative to many of these allegations.
