My theory is that, she is not the crystals, but became them at the same time. You explained how she made the crystals, but, you didn’t explain how the crystals fit into each other, it’s like a 0/3 fraction. And once you find all those fractions, you get the crystals with an Earth Pony’s hoove in the middle, a Pegasus Pony’s wings on the sides and bottom, and a Unicorn Pony’s horn. All those align to make a alicorn, just like twilight,as you already said. But, there is one more thing. Why does the crystals contain that much magic, and why do they last so long? Me myself, don’t know, but I’ll try to explain. The reasons artifacts last so long is because of some type of thing they are made with, than infused with magic. The magic remains there protecting the artifact, the more magic in there, the more new it looks, if there is alicorn magic is there, that magic will be so powerful that whoever takes the artifact would be more powerful than ever, and because of a new generation, I can also say that they can become a alicorn.

This makes perfect sense and i would also like to add an additional theory to the question, why does the magic last so long so powerfully, well as we know alicorns are immortal creatures so i believe that as she gave up all her 3 types of magic (unicorn, pegasi and earth) that when combined into one created immortality, so all three magic creating the gift of immortality when given to an alicorn, as it seperated from twilight it also took away her life plus immortality because it was the magic itself that kept twilight immortal so when she seperated the three individual magic the magic itself stayed immortal as a symbolic reference to the fact that it was the magic of a late, once immortal alicorn.

No hate, but I just hate it when people keep talking about the death or end of Twilight Sparkle, plus she would never do something like this. I'm not saying she wouldn't sacrifice her alicorn magic for the safety of Equestria, like when Tirek was sucking all the magic out of ponies and Twilight "Was more than willing to do her part as a princess and give up her magic" I'm just trying to suggest that She knows that Friendship is magic, the most powerful magic of all, and she just wouldn't sacrifice her alicorn magic, The magic of friendship, for something like making artifacts out of it. She was left responsible for Equestria, remember how she went bizarre because she didn't send a letter to Princess Celestia? This is such a big responsibility that Princess Celestia gave Twilight, the responsibility for the safety and rulership of Equestria. I know she will always be responsible even if she wasn't an alicorn, but I don't think the ponies would actually listen to her as much as they would have if she were an alicorn. I mean, every ruler in Equestria has been an alicorn anyway. These are the reasons why I think that Princess Twilight would not do something like this. The part where she could had made her self a normal pony again would be sense considering that she did look like a normal pony when she sent the message to the bright house. She didn't look grown up anymore so she probably did in fact turn back into a normal pony But at the same time. In the series my little pony make your mark in season 5 the first episode is called the isle of scaly aka the dragon lands where the dragon lives there is a scene saying a evil alicorn opaline wanted all the magic in equestria so twilight made the crystals to hide the magic. I think this is a theory that could very well be true. my only thought on this is that in the movie we get to see twilight for a bit and there she looks like she did when she first turned into an alicorn. my theory on this is that she sacrificed all her magic to create the artefacts but the only transformation that accrued was her size. The alicorn magic that kept her immortal was gone with all her magic so she just shrank back to her original size.

Tbh I don’t really understand this, if she is dead it can’t be from age due to something I realised in MLP Make your mark chapter 2 series ( SPOILERS!! ). Opaline ( The new Alicorn villain) tried to takeover equestria and twilight was quite young during this time ( opaline looked older than twilight, from what I saw in the backstory) so if opaline is still alive ( and still lived on without magic throughout the whole ‘ no magic for years thing ‘) it means immortality in alicorns stayed the same. Twilight didn’t separate her alicorn self to make the crystals ( as seen from the backstory ) so she still had her alicorn immortality, she can’t of died from age, so what really happened to her ? I doubt Twilight would do such a thing, I believe she took all magic (other than Alicorns' magic) and infused them into the crystals. She then left Equestria, alongside Princess Cadence and Princess Flurry Heart, and went to live with Luna and Celestia. This would be my theory if I believed anything could beat Twilight, as she is the embodiment of magic, I don't believe she would even die if she didn't become an Alicorn. I think she'd rule over Equestria for the rest of its days, occasionally visiting Princess Cadence, Princess Flurry Heart, Luna, Celestia and also statues of the Mane Six, which she could revive for 3 hours (as they requested) if needed. I also believe the rest of the Mane Six could live in Discord's dimension, where Princess Twilight Sparkle would always be welcome. There is an evil alicorn named opaline that came to Equestria . she spread bad rumours that the unicorns hurt other ponies with their magic, and because of that, ponies started to move away from each other and not feeling safe anymore, oplaine is powerful and dangerous(maybe that's why the ponies believed her) taht's what spike said . Opaline didn't just made the ponies separated themselves from each other but also she stole the dragons and the ponies magic . But twilight stopped her from taking away the magic, she created the unity crystal to hide the pegasus, unicorns, and earth ponies magic inside, she also created the dragonstone to hide the dragons magic. Twilight is still an alicorn and still ruled by all those things happened. But i think she transformed to the unity crystal and trapped but she still can communicate with the others but not in her psyhcal form but a spirit.

After so many years and so many times watching this video and watching the entire mlp g4 to g5 i think we all know what caused twilight to do this. The time opaline tried to take all magic of equestria to become a fire alicorn, thats the crises in magic and that is worse than cozy glow tirek and chrysalis working together
